  1. GC Buying & Selling

    Pros: I really don't see why players should answer this, after all it's safe to assume that the topic starter has a much better connection to Entropy and introducing more and more incentives for gold coin buying/selling has certainly been one of the persistent goals of the server development of the last few years, as any new "money sink" or new expensive item is most obviously a stimulus package for the gold coin trading market. So, best to ask Entropy directly why he wanted this to happen. Cons: It gave an exceptionally weak excuse, which was however used anyways, to get rid of more than a fifth of the player base and pout in public, both of which may and possibly must be turned into "pros" unless they're part of a conceived trade off later on. Since I've lost some friends and enjoyment of the game from the first and get nothing out of grown men acting the fool on their own forums and, as mentioned above, being in the dark about the official "pros" I guess I am opposed to gold coin buying/selling as it's been handled so far around here (this last being not a vote but my explanation as to why it's bad for the community).

    The point seems to be that the justice system didn't find him guilty. One can find that verdict correct or not but that doesn't change it. I assume the legal system of the United States allows to appeal a verdict and given the amount of money that was to be had from Mr. Jackson I'd say it's safe to assume the plaintiffs would have (or possibly actually did, I don't really care for that kind of "news") used their options to the fullest provided they had sufficient evidence. Considering the result - Mr. Jackson found to be not guilty - one is left with the option to change/introduce laws or change the legal system to perhaps lessen the influence of the "egghead jury".

  4. New Mobs!

    What the game needs are things that attract new players not things that keep ancient ones training forever and ever. With that in mind the suggested creatures are at least 100 levels too high in a/d but I agree with the general sentiment of adding diversity (and spawns for that matter).

    And that's true because being rude to and threatening people is a sure way to earn their respect, it also highlights one's maturity and is in general recommended if one does depend on said people.

    While I personally would prefer if things would get finished/fixed before new things are added, I can say that I'd use this day.

    Bob Marley's or Samael's "Exodus" would kind of fit, but mostly listening to Terry Lynn "Kingstonlogic 2.0" (www.kingstonlogic.com), (system; kingstonlogic) currently.
  11. It just wont play!

    Would be helpful to know what your system is (hardware, OS, etc.). One thing to always try is to update your graphics drivers. And also check the error.log (in My Files\Eternal Lands\ (I think) or ~/.elc/ on *nix) and post it here if it's not empty.
  12. About TSP changes

    Well, I've said my piece on page one of this thread already but let me add that I currently have ingredients for at least 30k TS pots in storage when considering the old recipe and that's less than I would need for one level and that's on top of ingredients for extracts. As to why stock so much: because they are best made on Joule days, obviously. If the recipe is supposed to stay at antlers, perhaps antlers could be changed to stack. Might encourage the players training on deer to collect them even without knowing they can turn them into profit with potion makers.

    I think it's a nice idea. Of course it would have to be done carefully and considering that players already wear clothes. Desert areas: Hats provide the only "doable" protection against the sun, possibly some tunics too; fur hats and helmets might need a penalty here; at night you will some small cold protection (again, tunics might be an option) "Lava": Here the regular "heat protection gear" works regular areas: I'd say you'd want to leave them as is, so as to not make things too complicated for beginners cold areas: Decent cold protection during the day, better at night; a good number of snow/cold maps don't even have cold damage last time I checked. I think that would be less drastic than the original suggestion and if you don't want people to complain about the hat in the desert, you could make it so that you simply don't regenerate material and ethereal points without it. Oh and it would be nice to finally get server support for new weather while we're at it.
  14. Current CVS errors

    Today's update makes all objects be in shade, tried various options without success (actually turning off reflections gave me the floor back in VotD and turning off Sky worked in SRM for all objects when I didn't see the sky; isometric view worked), updated graphics drivers as well but didn't help. Went back to yesterday's version which worked without problems and continues to do so. Rough system details are gentoo linux 2.6.27-r8, ati radeon hd 4800, using ati-drivers-8.593 (after update), gcc-4.3.2, let me know what else you need, though from the description it seems the problem is at the end of whoever made the changes

    Could you also elaborate on the features of this medallion, please. Without any combat stats this would seem to only be worthwhile when killing invasion monster much weaker than yourself and I doubt there's a real desire to promote that. (This seems to be so as one would want the bonus from another medallion while fighting higher level creatures and switching medallions all the time just to save a little mouse movement or a mouse click at the risk of about 6k would likely be perceived as too much of a hassle and one usually has plenty of time to pick up bags in regular combat)

    Thank you!! I suspected it was 15x but just didn't have the data to support that. Now we know. I've got a blessing of 2916, that means the multiplier for "regular" blessings is still 12, whereas the one bag of 285 gold coins so far today at least doesn't contradict the 15 as multiplier for bags of gold.

Wiki related discussions take place at http://forum.el-wiki.net You should not post links to pages in official channels, i.e. channels 1-20, use PMs to pass the information on. (I think this is somehow related to the "no coordinates/quest help" (the latter occurs only on the forums anyways) or possibly the "not too many URLs" of the channel rules, but I'd like clarification on that.) Like any other wiki, the EL wiki relies on it's users to be the best, most up-to-date, etc. so get editing! PS: Many thanks to DragonCairn of FoCW for hosting the wiki up to now and to Krrick of RIVA for hosting it now. PPS: Would be very cool if this could get "stickied"

    Much easier solution for this would be to simply stop NPCs buying the most suspicious flowers, i.e. analyze the correlation between flower sales to NPC and gc sales, supposing those stand out in the logs, then remove the flowers from the NPCs buying list or lower their price. I'm sure players would be willing to step in and buy what is needed from newbies to insure they still have the option of getting some income from flowers, say Red Roses/Snapdragons.

    I'm currently averaging just slightly below 25 harvest attempts (50 harvested items) per "mini event". I find that rather annoying. And while it might have been meant to discourage gold farming it might lead to more gold farming as players that currently utilize the in game market to earn the money for PK or whatever else might decide that it's more convenient to use gold farmers than be subjected to this.

    Wouldn't that be nothing but an elaborate admission of failed balance on top of further removing role playing aspects from the game? Personally, I couldn't really care a lot less about this change - even though it certainly inconveniences me - or about you making a fool of yourself by following through with that idea. Perhaps a more thorough revision would prove more fruitful, e.g. changing skunk/racoon furs in evasion/accuracy potions to "newbie furs", as those potions are probably in much higher demand/use or could be if not for the furs and the fact that they're also drops >.< I agree, as they at the moment, they're not worth the trouble for a low level potter (low level potter being anyone below Piner ) and too hard for newbie potion makers, but in principle they're potions that actually are in demand. Exactly, rule of thumb for a potion maker: "do not make potions that require animal items"; possibly modified to include the addition "unless provided by customer", but see below. Because I would like a way for newbies to make some money too. How many brown rabbit furs entered/left the game on average per day before this change? Will you make it so newbies automatically ignore bots in channels so they can actually participate in market and sell their furs to players or will True Sight Potions, like the Potions of Accuracy and Evasion, be effectively limited to bot owners? What about quantities? No single newbie needs to kill even a small fraction of the rabbits required to level using TSPs for just one player and considering the dwindling number of players, thus we have low availability on top of the annoyance to collect ingredients in amounts of low hundreds when you need thousands to level. Much better to heed RallosZek's advice and leave it to the summoners (again) to buy the rabbit furs. Plus I doubt newbies will be attracted to the game by the prospect of starting off with grinding rabbits (but then, the (most likely) real purpose was pointed out by gd2d/burn below). Most potions requiring furs or other animal items today are simply not worth the bother for one or multiple of the following reasons (I don't claim that that list is complete) 1) the critical ingredients are usually only available in small quantities from individual players, 2) the potions are sold as cheap as players can make it from NPCs, 3) there's no demand (what's more, for some there isn't even a possible scenario where using them would make sense). 1) obviously provides a control mechanism for you but also limits the players that will actually hunt for the ingredients on market (and thus creating a market for those ingredients in the first place), 2) is more of a problem of the current ingredient requirements for potions that by their function should have higher demand (attack potions come to mind) rather than a problem of NPC prices while 3) requires a revision of ingredients, function and "possible use" scenarios in every day EL life (first thing that comes to mind here are Potions of Cold Protection by the way).
