  1. Questions about game future

While the playerbase is indeed much lower now than in the past, that number "988" you cited is a fluke. Iirc it was an attempt with a lot of alts to test the server under a higher than normal charge (remember that interaction between alts was forbidden at the time). Also, it's very easy to say "such-and-such" need to be done. Thus, it has been done a number of times over the years... The actual doing is a different matter (as you as an entrepreneur should know).
  2. Wrong Channel

It may have been the first wc of the day, it was not your first wc by a long way. I have discussed this with you already a while ago, and given you a few tips on how to limit the risk. That didn't help much, if it did help at all. Since then you have had a few mutes as well, with the same result. So there is really no reason to act as if this dropped on you without any kind of warning. The main difference with those "others" you keep referring to, is that with them the discussions/mutes/kicks etc. work (most of the time). And that there isn't a reaction every "mispost" is that we might let it slide when we only notice it after 10 min or so (at least, that's how I handle it). But that can be changed.
  3. Wrong Channel

Not many show a pattern of <ad in @3> ... <fake ad in @6> <"wc"> <ad in @3> That feels very much like an intentional mispost in channel 6. Do that a few times, and we don't believe in the "wc" anymore. As for the treatment of others, discussing that is not for public channels. For one, you do not see our PMs or mutes others get.
  4. Unable to connect to server

No, I didn't recommend you play on test, I suggested you try that to see if that works. Reason: port 2000 is regularly blocked, port 2001 is almost never blocked. I also asked you to post terminal output from a normal run (to get more information), a requst you completely ignored. You also posted some "information" about your network which showed your (lack of) understanding of network issues. That is not a problem, your attitude is. Several of us have tried to explain what we think is going on. You ignore or misread at least half of what we say. Then you act annoyed as if we don't understand what you say... Fine with me, if that's how you want it, but I'm done wasting my time on this. Start perhaps by taking your own advice. I'm done here, good luck.
  5. Unable to connect to server

This Wikipedia page might help explain what that 192.168.x.x address really is... In a nutshell: the reason we don't see addresses in the 192.168.x.x range is that they are not allowed to be visible from the public network... Oh, and you didn't change the outgoing IP address, you got it assigned from your ISP (whom you might want to contact to ask about blocking port 2000). That "super-secret" IP address is sent to every web server you connect to. They need it to send you the page you requested... Same with EL: game server and this forum receive your "secret" IP address, and admins can see it.
  6. Unable to connect to server

For test server, that seems to work. If you want to try that for the main server, just leave off the "test". Probably won't work though... Oh, and the game cannot run on your private network. A "client" implies a server, which I can guarantee is not on your private network (or I and everyone else playing would have access to that "private" network). If you want more details, pick up a good text about internet and networks (wikipedia might work, also look up the notion of "ports")
  7. Unable to connect to server

That sounds pretty normal, that's what I see until I click in the window. Then I get a login window. So that looks as if something blocks port 2000 between your computer and the server. There is absolutely nothing we can do about that. You can try to get a VPN, but that's beyond the help EL can give you.
  8. Unable to connect to server

Right... If you have several el.exe, something went wrong somewhere (or there's an old version trailing around). And could you try to give more than the absolute minimum of information when you post? Which error message? What exactly do you have as "eternal lands". Note that you are looking for an executable... And keep in mind that we don't have access to your hard disk Also, that command I gave you (ok, it didn't work in your case) came from these forums. You could have found that with a simple search and a few minutes of effort. We want to help, but it would be nice to see some effort on your part... Unfortunately, my crystal ball is still not working.
  9. Unable to connect to server

Open a console window, and (I hope, not being a windows user except under duress) >C:\Program Files (x86)\Eternal Lands\el.exe test Might also be useful to try a console run on main (as asked) Btw, that command came up in less than 5 min searching this site.
  10. Unable to connect to server

But we are dealing with deterministic systems here. If "'nothing changes", behaviour won't change. Behaviour changed, so something was changed. Not necessarily by you, though... Try connecting to the test server, it uses a different port. Or try a traceroute to the server at "game.eternal-land.com". If both work, it looks like port 2000 has been blocked somewhere up the line.
  11. Unable to connect to server

Well, if as you say the client works normally, but can't connect to the server, the problem is not with the client. Some possibilities: - your firewall blocks the connection - your ISP blocks port 2000 (either you switched ISP, or they changed their policy) - or you are on an IP the server ignores completely (not likely). - or ... We don't have much to work with here, ...
  12. Unable to connect to server

In that case, more information might help: OS with version, and what kind of internet connection do you have? If you use MS-Windows, are you sure there haven't been any updates? Also, iirc the client can create an error.log and an info.log file, those might have useful info as well. Same with the output from the client when started from a terminal window.
  13. You can't, the protocol is hardcoded in the source code (file `update.c`). The only option I can see would be to figure out the correct URL and download the file outside of the client, then put it in the correct place. I tried, but didn't manage (got '404' errors, so wrong URLs; or, of course, that file doesn't exist any longer...)
  14. Checking that 301 error code(wikipedia) suggests that it might be related to the switch to https of the official server. If I understand that page correctly, the client should change the URL to the new one provided by the error reply. From what I see in the code, the download is aborted on anything but a "200" reply (update.c and new_update.c). Perhaps a retry with "https" instead of "http" when receiving the 301 error would fix the issue (just replacing the "http" with "https" in the initial attempt would likely break the unofficial updates, which may or may not important).
  15. help me

From the forum rules: So while you can post your question, I'd have to delete any useful answers here... Also, you might show a little bit of patience, we're not monitoring the forums continuously... Same in game, you don't always get an answer in the same minute (esp. when your initial remark is something like "I have a question", better post the question...)
  16. help me

Sorry, no quest help in public...
  17. attributes bar

Adding information on screen is fine when you have a large screen. But then we get the issue referred to by Aislinn concerning food (and AP): your eyes have to move around to gather all the info. So spreading possibly important info(*) all over the screen isn't the best solution. Why not put it at the bottom of the screen (possibly in the place where you now can put experience bars). And just an indication of (phy +x) (or whatever other attribute is modified) would be enough(**) Of course, there is still the question whether this has to be implemented.... But that's up to the actual coder(s) (* : if the info isn't important, why would you want it constantly on screen) (**: you don't need to see all attributes, only those which are modified, and you only need the modification value)
  18. Updating the Invance Map

Just as an aside, that's the kind of remark that makes it a lot more likely your comment will be ignored... Pity, as with the start, you had a good point.
  19. Eternal-Lands Reborn

Last warning: stop pushing Steam. It seems to be all you can spam about, and the game owner already decided against it. By now, you are infringing forum rules 13 (no spam) and 15 (no promotion of non-EL related business). You also don't seem to actually play the game, making this pushing of Steam all the more suspect.
  20. Nice screen shots, but what OS (including version) are you using? And of course the classic question: do you have the latest drivers for your video card? (the drivers coming with the OS are often outdated)
  21. Hecklar banned

And you haven't been playing here at all the last few years?
  22. Updating the Invance Map

Wouldn't that require an update of the client-side map, not just a server restart? I know you proposed this for a future client update, but so far, from all the proposed changes, only 1a) and 2) require a client update, afaik the others can be done with only a server update. And perhaps access to the city area could be made harder/impossible?
  23. Hecklar banned

As one of the mods heavily involved in that macro mess, I think I can give my view here as well... re 1. Not verifiable, we've seen too many stories about how they couldn't imagine playing another character, only to sell said character the moment it was unlocked. re 2. Not relevant, the character was locked for (aiding and abetting) macroing, with all other characters involved. As you mentioned rule 8 already, let me cite the important part (bold added): re 3. Irrelevant, seeing rule 8 again. The main point is that the Hecklar character was locked for being involved in macroing. The main culprit wasn't at his first clash with the rules, so that was that. Since then a number of things have happened around the players and characters involved which don't add up. E.g. the various login attempts on the Hecklar char, by players who were in-game at the time. If that was you, you knew already a long time ago that Hecklar was locked. And you were playing again already. So in that case, it can't be that you are so attached to the Hecklar character. If it wasn't you, I'd really like to know what's going on here, as there were more shenanigans going on to get characters from that macro mess unlocked. So the timing of your request is just too good to be true. (There's a lot more to the whole situation than I can write down here) As far as I'm concerned, no reason to unlock the Hecklar character.
  24. Top Players Has Returned

Learner had full access to the servers, so he could scrape all the data he needed. Whatever data he collected is now lost (or at least inaccessible) As Burn said, he doesn't have the same level of access.
  25. Account recovery from long ago

The main problem is that neither 0Lucas0 nor Beret67 exist as in-game characters. So there is nothing to recover (see e.g. this page).
