I am checking out the game after a long break and I can't log in! Help?
  2. EL Network Protocol Documentation

Greetings! robotbob on a previous thread suggested documenting the EL protocol. This is obviously an awesome idea as at current there isn't any publicly available information. Therefore I have provided a Wiki aptly named 'Eternal Lands Network Protocol Wiki' for documentation. The wiki will provide a breakdown of the protocol, its uses, examples of packets and other information pertaining to communication to and from the Eternal Lands server. If you are a programmer and have experience with the protocol, you are invited to join us to help make the Wiki an extensive source of information for the EL protocol. Disclaimer If there is any abuse to this Wiki, the IPs in question will receive an outright ban from accessing my server, both the Wiki and the webserver in general. Currently it is just myself and Vegar editing it, with robotbob planning to join us. Please feel free to assist us by creating a username and begin editing. If you run a trade bot, we could use the item ID information if you have it to hand Cheers
  3. Clarification about rule 5 and RL $$

How are you going to enforce this?
  4. Vote for EL Linux packages

Indeed you can, and indeed it is, but I was hoping not to scare away those not happy using the command line (which I use all the time BTW). If you need a place to host this stuff, give me a shout. There's plenty of room on el.beplacid.net. Those media hosting sites suck
  5. Linux package files into CVS i.e. debs

    Nice work bluap, as usual.
  6. Summonable Penguins

Summoning a little Tux would rule. Idea sounds good to me!
  7. Vote for EL Linux packages

Thanks for providing absolutely no insight or relevant input to the topic at hand. bluap, I think it's a good idea as there will always be people who are not ofey with building from CVS, and even those who have difficulty with extracting & running EL from its current packaging methods. Basically, it can't hurt at all. I'm inclined to say .debs at least - bearing in mind that it may be beneficial to make them compatible with both Debian and Ubuntu - and similarly for the rpm-based distributions.
  8. Integrating the map editor - discussion

Lol, I have to have that text-book on my mind then Althrough I never read one about SCM I take you do not fully agree with this, do you ? Álvaro No, you're misunderstanding me. I wasn't being sarcastic. The phrase 'text book case' means that the case is perfect for what you're intending. Oh, and I've never read anything on SCM either; that would be awfully boring.
  9. Integrating the map editor - discussion

Yes, we had to change some things on the startup process and some changes in the scene drawing (and more), which if included right now would break the client. So branching makes a lot of sense while we don't have this thing stable enough to merge in the main trunk. We also need to share code very periodically, even if that code does not compile at all. Álvaro Text-book case ;p
  10. Patch #2461: Add resolution 1400x1050

The patch looks fine and applies and builds cleanly. I can confirm the window mode works but my monitor is not up to running this in full screen and I get the "Stop playing with the configuration file and select valid modes!" error; that's OK I'm sure. So, anyone object if I (or someone else) go right ahead and commit this change? Patch applied cleanly and worked fine for me.
  11. Integrating the map editor - discussion

    Branching of any use here?
  12. You are all taking this WAY too seriously...
  13. Client text macro commands

Well, that's if you're using a US-style keyboard layout. Of course, the rest of the world probably doesn't have to press as many keys. Personally I think the idea is excellent, and it's definitely something I'd use.
  14. Energy Problems

So what should happen if you disconnect during a fight? Stop fighting? #beam? Sure, that wouldn't be abused...
  15. Server in window title

Lesser of the two evils, mon petite poulet.
  16. This has got nothing to do with changing the overall functionality of the storage window. It's purely to do with the category ordering.
  17. Totally agree. I find it counter-intuitive. It's even worse when you're in a hurry and trying to get things out of storage quickly.
  18. EL 192x192 PNG icons

A fine bit of engineering. A Linux-based laptop that's tiny. Very popular.
  19. Man (player) eating leopard

    You mean like manbearpig?!
  20. 25% of a userbase is a lot of people to ignore. Perhaps put it to vote?
  21. Multi-lingual

Hola, Bonjour, Shalom, Guten Tag and Hello What languages do you speak? Myself: English, some French, some German and very little else
  22. My private EL custom server

Right, so if everyone else is doing it that makes it alright? I see this excuse so often with people who don't document their code yet write stuff that's unreadable. It is not an excuse. Use decent programming practices whatever you're coding! Edit: Karen produced an entire HTML file explaining the majority of her code. Jesus. It's an open source client, people are gonna see what you write anyway. The job of macro-prevention is largely the responsibility of the server. There is very little the client can do to prevent macroing. Anyway, WTF does macroing have to do with custom clothing mirror? Again, no excuse. That approach to a programming project is like building a dam and saying "oh sod it, we'll patch the cracks later". Why SHOULD it? You're not Entropy. What's it costing you to share? What you're doing is also somewhat insolent, too. I'm all for the encouragement and support to help Ent. and Roja get some cash for their hard work, but that doesn't warrant bribing people. I donate GBs of bandwidth a month to EL, without expectation of recompense whatsoever. Do you see me saying "oh hihi, I'm holier than thou"? No. I can't stop laughing.
  23. My private EL custom server

I can't believe I'm reading this. You didn't document your code, or write it in a manner that's easy to read and maintain, and after stating this publicly you then give someone who's asking for help demands?! You've got to be kidding me. Someone pinch me, please!
  24. Movement

There are few problems with mouse movement (like trees blocking the way) which is quite annoying on some maps. Also having laptop and playing without external mouse is quite tiresome So, I was seeing whether it is possible to implement WoW-like movement system. (Although I have never played WoW, I just stumbled upon this: http://www.ilovejackdaniels.com/cheat-shee...ft-cheat-sheet/ ) I looked a bit at the protocol code, and it really seems to be impossible with current protocol. [edit: Finished last sentence properly ] The movement system you talk of is not 'WoW-like', games have been doing it for years. WoW did not create this, nor should it be credited thus. If a system were to allow keyboard movement and a client were to only send a 'pulse' of its location say, every 5 steps, surely you would equal or even save bandwidth usage?
  25. Bug tracking system

Glad to hear it. Onwards and upwards then!
