  1. I think it should be renamed as:

    The Vulgar Unicorn

    (Thieves world concept)

(for afficianidos ... try to remember the description of the sign)

Oh, I remember it. I was going to suggest what a tavern near my home town did: a statue of a white stallion on the roof. And yes, it was very obviously a stallion.

But I like the Vulgar Unicorn idea better.

  2. I thought UTC is the time that is not affected by daylight savings. Oh well, I always hated this kind fo things.

    You and me both, brother.

But you've got it right now. Eastern US is currently on Eastern DAYLIGHT Time, which is UTC-4. On the last Sunday in October at 0200 local it'll change to Eastern STANDARD Time, which is UTC-5. In other words, it'll jump from 0200 to 0100 instantaneously.

And if you have an electronic device that's supposed to make that jump automatically, it might do it again when the time reaches 0200 once more. And again, and again, and again... (Let's not talk about how I know this.)

Next year it gets even worse - the dates on which the U.S. enters and leaves Daylight Saving Time change.

  3. Yeah I know about cafe press...was thinking about it, maybe eventually when I get some time and look into it more we can do that.

You can get customized U.S. postage stamps from Cafe Press. I'd love to see stamps issued by the Emerald Valley or Mynadar Post Office.

  4. I agree with this idea, MMORPG games are supposed to be full of stories, quests, and just having fun...Taverns tend to just bring the life out of people... and i agree that having some buddies in some taverns, talking and having fun would be a great time.

Cmon now folks, pull up a chair why don't ya? ;)

Actually I think you might be onto something here. Let's get some entertainment in the taverns. Storytellers, games (Does anybody remember "Let's Make a Deal"? Now THAT was audience participation!), things like that.

It'd be a nice break from the level grind.

  5. LOL, ok i am running Linux.

and i think it is gento. this is broms comp and i dont know what he is running, he is not here to fix it and wont be back for about 2 years

This might be a configuration setting problem. Try this:

    1) Make a note of where you installed the client. In my case it's /home/maddad/elc.

    2) From your home directory, cd to .elc (note the dot at the beginning - that makes the directory invisible to a normal ls command, but it's still there. The EL client creates it to save certain files).

    3) Edit the file el.ini and look for the variable name #data_dir. (It's about 3/4 of the way down the file.) Make sure it says #data_dir = <your EL install directory from #1 above>. In my case it says:

"#data_dir = /home/maddad/elc" (No dot in elc this time!)

    4) Save the file and start the EL client. With a little luck you'll be able to see everything.

You'll find there is an el.ini file in your main install directory. That file is ignored by the client: it uses only the one in .elc.

I hope this helps. Two years is a long time to go without playing EL.

  6. Have a look at the source code for the client. Pretty much anything that the client can do, you can do.

It's a good idea to check the bot rules here to see what a bot CAN'T (or rather, isn't allowed to) do.

Other than these restrictions, it's like you say - anything a player can do, a bot could do.

  7. Harvesting anything that does not require a tool to harvest, and is over level 22 (I think) has a random 10% chance to drop one food point.

But it wasn't supposed to go as low. I will fix that.

We had a contest, I won, -100 food lvl :)

Sorry, I pushed on and got to -128, then on the next step it jumped to +127.

I'm reporting it here so I don't get bonked for exploiting a bug. I'll go make a bunch of essences now to get rid of the excess.

  8. I have a request in for a trade bot, and have stupidly lost the password.

I have no problem with losing the character as it's not active yet. But

am wondering what to do about the request for a bot that I can no longer

    use.

I'm in the same situation. I tried to re-create a couple of characters that I had deleted some months ago, one of them a bot. But the server won't let you create two characters within five minutes of each other, so when I tried to make the bot it gave me an error message. It still created the character, but the password I entered doesn't work.

When I asked about re-creating the bot I learned that the "lost password" policy still holds. You'll have to make a new bot and go through the process of getting it approved again.

  9. I would also post the packet info, but Ethereal won't let me export it (anyone know how to fix this?).

I don't know what version of Ethereal you have, but the Windows version I use (0.99.0) has an Export function in the Files menu. You can export to plain text, PostScript, CSV, or a couple of XML formats.

I ran into the same problem you mention about multiple messages in a packet. I ended up printing out packets of interest and marking them with a pencil to show the start and end of each message in the packet data field. It's not too bad since each message has a length embedded in it. as long as you can count in hexadecimal.

  10. Nice server load, 4kb/s :D

Edit: from the moment I have it, can I host it somewhere else to have a mirror for some days ?

No, but feel free to make a BitTorrent stream with it.

Has anyone made a BitTorrent stream yet? If not, I'd be willing to take a crack at it. (I haven't used BitTorrent before so it might take a few tries.)

  11. Probably, but note that a 845 and an 855 are different. what works with one may not work with the other. however, my laptop (which is busted, mutter mutter) has an 855, and it works there... properly updating drivers is usually a good idea

Alas, you are correct. I just installed the latest driver from Gateway and there is no joy in Mudville.

  12. Hi,

is it ok to have your bot take a bunch of negative perks when

leveling the character before it get botified ?

    thanks

Yes, and it will still have all those negative perks after being botified, so choose carfully, it wouldn't be a good idea to give a bot Hellspawn that will be changing maps for example.

Something like "I Can't Dance" shouldn't not be a problem if your bot won't be in a multi PK map. I wanted to give my story bot Monster Magnetism so he wouldn't end up on the wrong end of a gargoyle (he was stationary in Whitestone City until nightfall). I leveled him manually at the lilac bush to get the necessary pickpoints because he didn't need any physique, but since he'd never be in a PK area there were several negative perks I could have used.

It all depends on your bot's purpose and function.

  13. hello, when i open my map with the tab key on EL, it shows all the places and everything, it just won't show where I am...the blue x...plz help

I have the same problem with my laptop, a Gateway 200ARC. (I think it's an Intel 855 graphics chip.) I can't see either the blue X or the red X if I click on the map. I can, however, see the green X left by a right-click or the "#mark name" command. (Sometimes if I really need to see where I'm at on the map I'll use that command, then immediately delete the mark once I see where it is.)

  14. I think youve got the basics of a good storyline for a roleplay forum poll.

Hey, I come to Eternal Lands to get AWAY from the conspiracy theories! Now you're telling me they're here too?

Well, if you can't beat them, join them.

  15. A few months ago in a fit of pique I deleted (as in "killme yes") my bot character, The_Bard. Having reconsidered, I'd like to try to put it back in the game. I re-created my Maddad character (also deleted previously - I was in a really bad mood at the time) successfully but when I tried to re-create The_Bard it said I had recently created another character from this address and had to wait five minutes. Fair enough. I waited five minutes and tried again, and it said this name is already taken. I tried logging in using the same password I entered when I tried to re-create the bot the first time, and I get a password error.

I'm not asking for anyone to retrieve the password, but I do have a couple of questions:

    1) When re-creating a previously deleted character, must the password be the same? I don't recall what The_Bard's original password was.

    2) Is it possible to tell when a character was created? It occurs to me that someone else may be using that name, in which case I'll find another.

  16. Illustrated stories from the game. That's something I want to do in the future for EL.

I don't know if I'll use Zbrush for doing that however, because comics genereally aren't that detailed

    Roja,

Comic books are traditionally low-res because they were meant to be inexpensive to produce. If you're going to have books printed, that might still apply. But if you're going to publish on the Web you can use as much detail as you like.

I suspect time and deadlines are what limit the detail in Web comics. Somebody who has to produce 3 or 4 strips a week doesn't have a lot of time for detail.
