    Lady_Eika..... Wow!
  2. My 2 Cents

Dent.... There has to be a gap - no one is saying otherwise. The question is how big a gap this should be. No one is saying they want to become a mod. Or even that they want to socialise with mods. What Jez SUGGESTED was a way to help make mods seem less impersonal/faceless. No one is saying otherwise. Er, who has said that? No one here that I can see. If it seems inpersonal, inappropriate, etc - people will indeed have a problem with it. Again, who said 'scrap the rules'? And 'Don't enforce them?' No one.
  3. My 2 Cents

I think Jez has some very good points, there is an increasing murmer of disention (sp) among the EL community about the player/mod gap. But, as a growing community, like any community, there has to be a mechanism to accomodate the lowest common denominator of player (you know the type - the 'you messed with the wrong person you **&$ - when going off topic/swearing/etc), and unfortunately that means having a strict, no nonsense approach. But we do need to acknowledge that people will gossip about punishments - big or small. Roja is quite correct that it is a disgusting trait of human nature. But to have a faceless team of mods dishing out punishments where people further fuel events by gossiping and have no access to the facts will only make things worse. Admittedly I havent played many online games, and I don't doubt that a rule of not discussing mod behaviour is commonly used, but that doesn't mean it cannot be improved upon. But I wonder if a locked thread where mods submit a post of bullet points/summary/shortened log, showing the events leading up to the punishment could help. The thread isn't used for discussion, players do not get a chance to debate - they purely get a chance to see what REALLY happened. It doesn't make mods accountable to players (although that is not neccessarily a bad thing), but it does give players an idea of the full story. Extra work for the mods, yes, but not much. A quick list of bullet points, or what ever, shouldn't take long. The only problem is to establish what events need to be documented: every time a 'topic' mute is issued might be a bit much, but every time a person is denoobed might be suitable. Maybe don't document anything unless the player cannot accept their punishment and starts to kick up a stink. In this way punishments remain anonymous, and only become public when/if the player gets abusive. In this way, mods aren't seen as power mongering abusive people, players see that mods have to give some feedback for their actions, there is no discussion from players so mods don't have to worry about that in the thread, there is no discussion of mod behaviour, and a fuller picture of events is there for everyone to see. ps - Although I have had disagreements with mods in the past - I am a fan of them. Imagine EL with no mods at all - erk!
  4. Jacoblin.....uber B*****d

Mispost! Server VERY laggy, took ages to upload my post, and accidently posted the same thing twice as a result! Doh!

Erm, not quite. Report bagjumpers, yes. But leave it at that, no. We can discuss the severity of the crime. Otherwise people could post messages such as 'Mr Blah is a bag jumper - avoid', and we have to take it on face value. It'd be too easy to ruin someones reputation over a small matter/mistake/triviality. And no one is arguing. And what's with all the 'END OF's? Personally, I think Sitdownatstorag and Kala are quite right. Someone steals 5 pounds off me, or someone steals my prized, valuable, rare, titanium sword. What would annoy me more? Hmmm..... Yes, an act of theft has taken place here. But IMO not all acts of theft are the same. But as mentioned, this is my humble opinion - I would be curious to see what a law student/graduate has to say about this. A lot of fuss for a virtual theft? Yup - but I am curious to what an expert has to say.

Nah - Im not really. But thanks! Its SO difficult to make anything that looks good on that site - but I like that! It makes anything you do look child like!
  7. all my base

Sigh... yes another one! It's a longer version of the 'TOPIC' one above. Best on 'fast' view. Longer version of TOPIC!
  8. Programer Or Murderer

9/10 The one that I didn't get actually had me stumped for a while, and it was the serial killer who was also a computer programmer!
  9. all my base

Couldn't help myself! Heres one more. Again, best viewed on 'fast' viewing. People who say TOPIC!!!
  10. all my base

I'm having WAY too much fun with this! Another.... Rabbits REVENGE!! Best on 'fast' view.

  12. all my base

My effort.... Don't skip to the end.. it's better if you play in 'fast' mode. MarantZ before and after!
  13. Fighting

    Thats good too!
  14. England

Sounds good! And, what did happen to the Red Dwarf film? Is that still happening?
  15. Fighting

Intriguing idea! I like the idea of being unconcious and unable to move until you: 1. Get killed outright, and then go to hell. Deathbag is available for theft. 2. Recover (either by a given time or be healed). While unconcious/recovering, deathbag is available for theft. The key here is you can SEE who takes your bag. 3. (my suggestion) You voluntarily 'suicide' so you go to hell straight away and can make your way back into the game. Deathbag is available for theft. Why do I think Daejin's idea is good? It introduces the idea of death being 'interactive' - you can choose what you want to do, one of the choices being : 'do I stay here unconcious and wait to see if some bugger takes my bag?' Imagine the chat: theif: hey - you can't move - think Ill take your bag. unconcious player: if you do I am SO gonna pk ya! Additonally, I think it will cut down on bag jumping. Only the hardcore bagjumpers who don't care if they're seen will take a bag. The 'opportunists' who only take bags when no one is around to see - won't! Unless I have misunderstood? (which I so easily do! )

Heh heh! *Evil glint in eyes*
  17. Afk Auto-boot

Not after youve read them. I like to ensure they don't have spelling mistakes. I wouldn't change anything else - its a dirty trick. I simply like to submit posts with out spelling mistakes. Agreed.
  18. Afk Auto-boot

No, you only read PART of it. I also noticed your quoting of me is, shall we say, heavily edited. If you quoted the entire paragraph, instead of just a sentence, you would see a big difference! You suggest I said: What I actually said was: As is obvious, they are very different. Like I said, Please do me the courtesy of reading my posts before responding to them.
  19. Afk Auto-boot

Have you read any of my posts? A couple of my quotes: When did I say disconnect people for being afk? I didn't. When did I say afk is the same as afk at storage? I didn't. In fact I said exactly the opposite! Please do me the courtesy of reading my posts before responding to them.
  20. Afk Auto-boot

But playing EL doesn't affect the gaming experience of others does it? It's not until you do something such as afk at a storage (for, as yet, no established practicle reason) that other players are affected. So yes, it is self indulgent. We have merely established that afk per se isn't so bad, but afk at storage is. We have also established it isn't so much the bandwidth that is the problem, but the fact a players character burdens everyone else's pc with additional processing load. This wasn't so clear at the beginning of the thread. Who is arguing? No one.
  21. Afk Auto-boot

As has been said, it isn't actually the bandwidth that is the problem - it's the fact you are connected. Your connection means that there is another character that everyone else's pc has to process. It is this graphical processing of all the characters at storage that causes the problem at storages for everyone's pc's! If you aren't connected, there are less character models to process, therefore that jerkiness that everyone experiences in vastly improved. Additionally, your statement of 'bandwidth is cheap' infers that everyone should pay for bandwidth so that they can cater for people who want to be self indulgent and not log off. Not what I'd call 'fair'.
  22. Paranormal"

Nah, its the guy and girl on the LEFT that are the ghosts!! They look just like regular, alive people too!
  23. Afk Auto-boot

Ah! I knew food level didn't decrease, but I wasn't sure how research affected it. I can see it is indeed worthless.
  24. Afk Auto-boot

Forgot about that!! Never had it though. What exactly does it do?
  25. Afk Auto-boot

A lot of people seem to refuse that afk is a problem! I have a 1 MB connection and I get severe lag at storages, therefore it is a problem. As pointed out, imagine if it you had a dial up connection! Dis/Advantages of AFK: Any advantage to afk is negated after 45 minutes. The only reason to stay connected after this is so people can peruse chat logs and messages. Some people also 'like' the idea of the character staying in EL. El also seems to be more populated (although this is just an illusion). All very self indulgent reasons. Dis/Advantages of not allowing AFK: Lag improves at storage areas for all, particularly those with slow connections. Players can target the storage bot more easily. All very practicle reasons. Obviously the main issue is to ensure fairness for all - players who afk, particularly near storages, ARE degrading the game experience for others. In my opinion, Jimmythesaint, Wildcard and Placid are quite correct, this is a problem. How to solve it? I like the idea of 'porting afk players away from storage. I'm not sure if being connected, but away from storage, is as serious an issue as going afk at storage areas? Maybe this could work?
