  1. I assume you are using Windows?

If so START > RUN > type in 'dxdiag' > Save Information > open the file (by default it is saved on your desktop and named 'dxdiag.txt') > post the information here.

  2. Hi there!

I tried to install EL under OpenSUSE 10.2 Linux. I experienced some problems.

On the EL site it says:

    To play on Linux:

Download the zip file, and unzip it.

cd to the directory where you installed it.

chmod to 775 and execute el-133.x86.linux.static

edit el.ini and change datadir to where you unzip everything

Also, the zip file has no base directory, so you should unzip it in a new directory you create.

I downloaded the zip and extracted it to /home/kl4Uz/Eternal_Lands/Eternal Lands-1.33

Afterwards I chmoded and executed el-133.x86.linux.static and edited el.ini

Now I'm able to start EL, but I have several problems:

1.) Several files are not found, e.g.

I/O warning : failed to load external entity "/home/kl4Uz/Eternal_Lands/EternalLands-1.33//actor_defs/actor_defs.xml"

2.) The client crashes frequently and konsole states:

    Speicherzugriffsfehler

which means as much as memory access error.

3.) I see no models. I see the maps, I see all particles, etc yet not a single model or a name. Is this problem related to CAL3D?

I use the latest official nvidia drivers (geforce go 6600) and my computer is an intel centrino.

    Any help is appreciated :P

  3. I think it looks nice, yet it could be improved. The login screen is the first thing a new player sees, so it should really be fancy and state-of-the-art (well, state of the game's art :D). And lately there have been so many new and exciting things added to the game and I think does should be represented through the login screen. Maybe you could add some of them, Roja? Or have a new animal/monster in there, every time a new client update is released?

  4. Maybe you noticed the little userbar I had in my signature for about one day :Pacesig.png

Well, I thought there's more potential in it and I could come up with a better looking and more informative version of it. Hopefully I succeeded. But the best thing is: You can get one too :D

    How does it work?

The Userbar image is based php and constructed from the text information inside the php file and a png image. Signatures that show the player's onlinestatus, read from a textfile on my server that contains the information. The textfile is updated through a cronjobed script, in order to save bandwidth.

Isn't that just like LabRats Sig?

Basically yes, however some things are different. If you want the others to know your skill levels, you should check our LabRat's thread (http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=32153) and get one of them!

So what does your Userbar do? (Features)

    • A ticker that displays randomly 1 of up to 10 custom messages (each time the image is reloaded)
    • Virtually every combination of colours is possible.
    • Different font sizes
    • Multiple font colours
    • Custom background picture
    • Custom header bar
    • Displays your online status
    • Any other text possible
    • Hosted directly on my server

    Here are some examples:

    bar_k.png

My Userbar. Features a "ticker", online status, guild, and information about the EL server

    bar3.png

Diskordia's Userbar. Features a "ticker", online status, guild, and information about the EL server.

    bar_a.png

Andi_R0X Userbar. Features the "ticker" and online status!

    bar1.png

    Another example for a Userbar.

If you think you might want to get one of these read on!

If you would like to get one of these, just leave a message here or pm me either ingame or on the forums. As there is quite some work involved with creating and hosting these, I ask for an obligatory donation, if you want one. Please keep in mind: The more complicated your wishes are, the more work it is for me :P And don't be afraid, asking is free and I'm sure we can agree on something :fire:

    Plans for the near future

    • Configure your personal Userbar through a webinterface
    • The Guildbar - A bar for your guild

    - kl4Uz :)

  5. huh my answer is gone. Just in case it was against the forum rules, could someone inform me about it via pm?

As for the problem of the thread starter, there certainly is a solution, but it's probably better if you just use the school computer for educational/academic purposes.

  6. Moving the bots close or even into the towns and cities is a great idea. Many of the lovely towns and huge cities we have scattered all over Draia lack inhabitants and visitors.

NPC and bot merchants are points of interest and decide (of course there are other factors too) whether places are popular or not. So from this point of view, it's a great idea.

On the other hand there is a number of highly specialized tradebot such as the one in Trassian that just buys meat. And I wouldn't want to miss bots like these. Not because I use them - I hardly ever use a bot - but because they add to the flair. I really like the idea of a merchant buying the meat that brave hunters fought for in cold areas.
