  1. Cooldown log

Additional thoughts: It is my understanding that two different issues are being addressed by the cooldown- the manu/crafting market deflation, and the predictability/easy of fighting/hunting. They are different issues, so I will address them individually. Market: As I said earlier, slowing the game down in the immediate time domain is bad- it makes for boring. Slowing it down in the day-long time domain is much better. So how about if the following was implemented: Manu: You can only use as many EFEs per week as you have 10s of points of manu; in the 30's? Then 3. The 40's? Then 4. Maybe twice that number- the quantity can be decided. Crafting: You can only make as many magic items as your level in crafting, per day. Crafting 42? 42 dis rings then you're chilled until midnight. Maybe twice that number- the quantity can be decided. One of the good things about this system is that people can still work on leveling w/o experiencing pure agony, yet the flood of expensive armor and weapons will be greatly reduced. Fighting: I rather like the cool-down the way it is for fighting- potions and magic items only. In fact, I can report that it has changed my behavior to the point that I died already. No complaints- I was trying to overly conserve mana and got caught. I think that the challenge that the cooldown presents here is healthy and interesting, rather than boring. All IMHO scafativ
  2. Cooldown log

Thank you, Vitez. The code is already there, in a form- the harv/hour limit. That caps harv XP/ unit time. I'm proposing caps on making things / unit time- but units a lot bigger than a minute. scafativ
  3. Cooldown log

Well, this hasn't been implemented long enough to fully appreciate how I am effected, but I have an initial impression, so I'll share it. I'm spending a lot of time watching a red stopwatch go around. From a playability standpoint, that's not so good. Playing this game requires a lot of repetitiveness, and to add periods of nothing to that is distressing. I *think* that one of the reasons that this is being tried is to help market values- if so, can't you somehow limit how many of a particular item someone makes over a day or a week? That would shift the "cooldown" from the minute domain to the day or days domain. Made your helm limit for the week? Go summon for awhile. All IMHO of course. Scafativ
  4. Pyrotechnics! :D

This is a very strange comment. Who will code any of these suggestions? Do you post this every topic? Using your logic, should we just get rid of this forum altogether? I like the idea of the new skill, btw.
  5. Weird shadow in DP

I was walking past a rock outcropping in DP, and noticed a bizarre shadow along the base. It's weird in that it goes all the way around the rock- the shadow is cast equally in all directions. Also- rather than taking the form of the rock, it seems to just follow the base in an angular way. I don't know for sure that it's a map issue- I can't imagine what soft of mistake in map creation could casuse a thing like this, but it seems unlikely to be a software defect, so I though I'd start here. The exact location is shown in the screen capture: Weird Shadow
  6. The hall of shame

I would like to apologize to Entropy for the tone of my initial response to the posting of the list that included 16 people who were only logged once, and therefore did not have persuasive evidence against them. Good and honest friends of mine were part of that group, and were deeply upset, and my words were harsh in a way that was uncalled for. After corresponding with Entropy, it is clear to me that his intentions were neither bad, nor careless. He was trying to address a difficult problem, and some innocent people were unfortunately caught up in it. Entropy has addressed that issue by editing the original post, and in the subsequent macro'ers list, in which the false-positive names were pre-purged. I commend him for those actions, thank him for the time he has spent on this issue and the game overall, and again offer my apologies. scafativ
  7. Macroing Hall of Shame

Mihiam, I loudly commend your decision to purge from this list those individuals who's "score" was low enough to suggest false-positive! That is right and just and thoughtful. While it was originally stated in the "EF Hall of Shame" list that low scores could indicate false positives, the names of the 'martyred 16' were published and dragged through the mud, casting doubt on their honesty. Therefore, I call for a simple public apology to these individuals, since they were not afforded the same consideration as the low scoring macro-ers. Doing so may retain several who have indicated their intention of quitting the game altogether in response to an accusation that was poorly thought out. scafativ
  8. The hall of shame

You know, this attitude is just outrageous ! How dare you, and the others, publish single-entry names when "you guess it's a coincidence"! If a single log entry means nothing, then it was the pinnacle of irresponsibility to have not removed those names before posting the log! The list is titled "Hall of Shame", you'll recall. I think that this entire campaign has been ill conceived from the start. I think that the confession form shows the maturity of thought of a 13 year old, the attempt to make a mass "sting" bust has left a trail of good names lying on the roadside, and even the singling out of a particular "illegal" client was clearly unfair. Instead of relying on logs that may contain unfortunate "coincidences", and instead of trying to detect particular client versions, why don't you make a more robust server that disallows illegal behavior? Do you believe that to be impossible? I think that it has to be done. I know that we’re not allowed to criticize mods on the forums, but I believe that a terrible injustice her been done to many innocent players, so this had to be said. scafativ
  9. wraith_v2

What do I think? I think that you're being kinda lazy. I like the fact that, periodically, we're all forced to go back to the place where we all started. If it's too much work, just be sure not to OA. scafativ
  10. It has occured to me that the "power" ring has a name that is misleading. Perhaps "Ring of Destruction" is a better descriptor- sounds cooler too. Also- do they really exist? I've never seen one offered on 3, and I've made hundreds of damage rings without making one, even though I always wear the artificer cloak that Lord_Vermor sold me (j/k). scafativ
  11. Help

It surely does! That was a GREAT answer to a carefully asked question. Thank you SO much.
  12. Help

I am unclear what is meant by "custom map". Are you talking about .bmp files that ppl have created of things like the inside of caves? If not, can they still be used? Are you talking about the custom waypoints lists, which I believe are .elm.txt files? If not, can these be copied over to the root directory and used? If neither of these, then what? Another way of asking this is: Are there any resouces that are preservable from the old client other than the chat log? Thanks scafativ
  13. Update TEST

I can state, without equivication, that I do not see that. All the other encyclopedia changes seem to be there- but not those two pots. I installed with the exe without issue, and everything else seems to be working fine. It's just that those two pots are not in the encyclopedia. Honest. Really. I swear. Not there.....
  14. Update TEST

A few new onservations: 1) Bones show up in weapons cat on storage interface. Is there something I don't know? I should have tried wacking a rabbit with a bone, perhaps. 2) Storage has no dot on VOTD overhead map. 3) I think that this is old, but when you try to harv veggies before your lvl is high enough to succeed, you get the message "You started to harvest vegetables", but then nothing happens. That is highly confusing to a noob. 4) Honestly- the new pots do NOT show up in my encyclopedia. On the other hand- 1) Storage interface: Rah! 2) New 3d rendering: Rah! Rah! 3) Config interface: Rah! Rah! Rah! 4) General Impression: Rah! Rah! Rah! Rah!
  15. Update TEST

Nobody should have to edit an ini file "before they start". It didn't simply come up in full screen- it was a mess! The bottom menu bar was inaccessible, etc- the only way I made sense of it was because I'm an experienced player. That is NOT the way to make a good impression on a new player. Also- since a means of exiting is also not obvious- the full screen mode was more obnoxious than anything else, on my machine when I started it up. I agree that playing in full screen is preferable in general- I don't think that is for a brand new player. MHO.
  16. Update TEST

They are not on my screen anywhere.
  17. Update TEST

Hi, A very few minutes of testing revealed the following on a newish PM running XP (Media Center Edition) w/ an intel 3d engine. 1) It came up in full-screen as default, and this was very messy in a number of ways- I highly recommend defaulting to 800x600. 2) The new potions (Magic and Crafting) are still not in the encyclopedia. 3) No sound, even though sound works fine on the PC in question. 4) When I entered the magic school, I got several *hundred* "Too Many Sounds" messages in a row.
  18. Named Bags

It would be nice if bags had an "owner property", which would hold the player name that created the bag. (Monster drops wouldn't have a name). The name would be displayed at the top of the bag inventory window. The point of this is: It would make the return of death bags easier. It would enable mine bag finders to ask the owner if they're done w/ the remainder (I've seen a lot of good stuff go up in smoke), and it would also eliminate bag spam, because the perpertrator could be identified. scafativ
  19. Simple Map Editor Suggestions

I've just started using the Map Editor, and I am very impressed with its functionaliy and stability! It is much better that I supposed a utility for a beta product to be. Reposting from "suggestions" Two suggestions: 1) I would love to be able to query objects- that is, discover its stats (such as rotation, elevation, etc) without picking it up. Maybe add another mode in the top nav, and then you can click on entities and read stats all you want. This would be very helpful in diagnosing flashing issues, for instance, as well as determining the name of objects on game maps (which you can't find in the directories!) 2) I am constantly picking up the wrong thing- blame a lack of fine motor control skills. It's frustrating to disturb an item that was perfect. It would be great to have a way, once you pick up an object, to say- Nevermind... This could be accomplished, perhaps, by hitting the spacebar. That would cause the object to snap back to it's original location. This isn't really an undo, which would resort back even if you put the item down already. If I'm not understanding existing features that deal with these issues- please comment. scafativ (newfound mapaholic) P.S. I code- (in lots of things, but C too, which I think you're based on). I'm willing to work on these features...
  20. Named Bags

I want to clarify my original intent. The name would be in the bag, not on it. You could't see the name until you stood on the bag- the name would appear at the top of the bag inventory. We do not need names floating over every bag- the name polution is bad enough in the storage areas that permit manu!

  22. I want to point out that Chintan explained himself perfectly the first time, and all of you who first claimed that it was pointless/unworkable/dumb, and then said "oooh... is THAT what you meant" are simply guilty of not having thought it through the first time. Chintan, you are guilty of nothing but clarity and brevity. Also- I really like the idea, as well as crannog's idea of an average list- perhaps both can be added. scafativ
  23. Named Bags

Having started this thread, I will weigh in again. Some of you seem to think that I suggested that the name create "ownership". Not at all- it merely reflects who created the bag. Bag jumpers can still jump like they do now, and death-bag collectors can still collect like they do now. Only two thinks change: 1) Bag returners (those so inclined) are better able to return. 2) Bag spammers will be stopped in their, well, bag tracks. It doesn't create bag ownership, and doesn't change any rules. It merely faciliates an action that is well within the spirit of the game (bag returning), and, for all practical purposes, ends a practice that is against the rules, but continues to occur. scafativ
  24. I'm serious about this idea. When partner's train together, they have to be quite close in a/d etc- if they're not, training is impractical. I think that wine should be drinkable, and that it should temporarily impare your reasoning and coordination, thereby leveling you off to your partner's stats- more wine, more imparement. It doesn't send a bad message to youngsters- getting drunk on EL impares you and isn't particularly fun- just like rl scafativ
  25. Named Bags

I haven't looked at the code, but I'm nearly certain that you're wrong. If a bag can "remember" it's contents, it can remember a name. Bag inventory, name of bag creator- they're all just properties. scafativ
