  1. Need Help

Which ini file are you editing? The one located in the directory with the binary is the default ini that ships with the install. It is copied to ~/.elc/main and any changes made to options in game are persisted there. What are the contents of your ~/.elc/error_log.txt? Also, what video card are you using? Paste the output from this command: lspci |grep -i vga If you're using an integrated intel gpu, sometimes renaming the shaders directory before starting the client will alleviate a segfault. For you, the shaders folder would be located under /home/JoeLong/Desktop/el_linux/ Another thing to try is to find this line in your el.ini file #use_animation_program= 1 change the 1 to a 0 and try restarting the client.
  2. Change to #know

That's a great idea; clear, concise instructions appended to command's output.
  3. EL 1.9.2 RC2

Happier to see my feet again than an obese dude with a gastric bypass. Edit: Honestly seems a bit slower for me. To quantify that, I'm standing at WS storage, not moving, hovering around 45 fps with the 1.9.1 client compiled from git. I close the client and then run the new one and in that same loc w/ no setting changes and I have fps in the teens. Mind you, I did not change camera angles or anything between clients. I've also disabled desktop compositing. If you want specs, I'm running a quad core amd phenom chip, geforce 9500 gt, nvidia driver version 270.41.19
  4. How to use GIT?

Git from a command line Download and install a copy of Git for your OS: http://git-scm.com/download (or use your system's package manager to install it.) Test the install: git version If the git command is not found, add the git install directory to your path (if you don't know how to edit your path, try a GUI tool like Tortoise Git.) To create a local copy of the repository initially (this will create an elc directory/folder in whatever location you're in when you run it:) git clone https://github.com/raduprv/Eternal-Lands.git elc To update your local copy (from within the elc directory created above:) git pull
  5. A little late replying to your post, but I would suggest you update the driver for your video card. It appears to be rather old. Even nvidia's legacy driver was updated at the end of 2010.
  6. Ingame Video Settings

Actually quite the opposite. This option should be enabled by default because it can give a significant fps boost, but if talking to NPCs/harvesting/entering doors doesn't work, disable this. Oops, you're right. Reading back in my logs I see many instances of new players being instructed to disable New Selection on channel 1. Good catch.
  7. Ingame Video Settings

Details>Shadows Turning off shadows can improve game performance on less powerful systems. Some systems don't support shadows and a player will see mostly grayscale or all white rather than normal looking trees & ground. Adv Video>Use animation program Some systems don't support this option and a player will see all character models rendered very strange Video>New Selection Disable when the mouse cursor doesn't change and the user is unable to talk to NPCs or harvest. Video>Mouse Bug Enable if clicking on the map doesn't make the player move anywhere. Enable if when walking, clicking on a tree makes the character walk backwards. Video>Maximum Viewing Distance Specifies how far (not sure in what measurement) objects are rendered in the distance - this applies to static objects such as buildings, trees. It has no effect on AI or other players. Decreasing the viewing distance can improve performance on less powerful systems. Video>Maximum Reflection Distance Specifies how far water reflections are visible. It's most noticeable at map edges that transition to water. It can be decreased to improve performance on less powerful systems. If you have reflections disabled to improve performance already, this setting should be set to 0.
  8. FYI

Americans, obviously. I can increase my post count too, see?
  9. Auctioning 100k iron ore and 70k coal

    160k gc for coal
  10. Couple of client niggles

I've noticed the first problem too Raz, mostly on my alt who is nearly always in console mode. If he grues, I just have to tap F1 twice to get a working console again, as you mentioned.

  12. Walking to the boat in gunda that takes you to Zirak docks gets you to AA sto very quickly. EDIT: There is at least one working door in gunda but it is broken in that it is a one way door, you can enter and then wait for a friend to bring you tele ess. Finding that door (I forget which one it is) and posting it in map bugs will likely get you the "safe" room you're looking for.
  13. It's one thing to want additional storage slots for end items, but it's effing retarded to want to maintain a stock of every harvable in the damn game and/or every mid level item you need to mix up to some other item. That being said, I'm at 275 of 300. I have only 22 flowers, 6 ores, 5 metals, 9 minerals. The bulk of my storage is ess, pots, tons of rings & indicators, armors & weapons. I'm an all rounder as well.
  14. More Zoom-out level

The extra zoom is very nice enabling me to see the tops of some features from above and giving a much larger perspective of a map, particularly some of the bigger outside maps. I haven't checked all maps, but I have noticed in some places zooming out this far allows you to see beyond the "skirt" map makers placed to hide elements from view. For instance, while seated at the table in Azaghâl's Castle in Zirakinbar, I can zoom out beyond the additional black tiles the map maker added to obscure the hidden features below the map. From where I'm seated, the walkable map edge is probably only 2 or 3 tiles farther out, but the skirt of black tiles extends considerably farther and as you can see, I can zoom out far enough to see past it and view the items below the map - this looks a little goofy I guess but isn't really a big deal, nor would I normally zoom out this far in such a small map. Also, to test this, I modified both lines 340 & 341 in draw_scene.c changing new_zoom_level from 4.0 to 8.0. Changing only line 341 allowed me to zoom out, but not back in.
  15. 1.9.1

Are you trying to run the update while the EL client is running? That would cause a failure since the executable would be locked for writing.
  16. El 1.9.1 for Windows and Linux released

Sound issues in linux have been discussed at some length in the Linux Help section. Here is one recent example where Usl suggests prefacing the command to invoke the el client with 'aoss'

  18. Help! Graphics bug?

Before you create your character, click the Options button on the welcome screen. On the Adv Video tab, uncheck "Use animation program."
  19. Game is entirely white/ no colour?

Click the Options button on the welcome screen (or Ctrl+O in game) and disable Shadows on the Details tab.
  20. 0 fps with nvidia GeForce FX 5200

When you log into the game, press F1 to enter console mode. Type #glinfo and copy the first three lines of output from that command and paste them here. That will confirm what driver you have installed. Also if you're running Debian, Ubuntu or Arch, you can use this script to acquire and install the proprietary nvidia driver correctly. http://code.google.com/p/sgfxi/
  21. I know additional repair options have been suggested, but nothing specific to bronze armor (that I could find) tho posts like this one probably include it. Anyway, I wanted bronze armors singled out specifically because the armor is much more useful since it was improved in August of 09. While dragon armors are also not repairable and quite expensive, there is at least demand for the damaged pieces. As far as I can tell there is virtually no market for damaged/degraded bronze pieces and the penalties for continuing to use it are significant in that armor is reduced and accuracy is decreased. That being said, in line with the other metal armors Heavybeard repairs, I think bronze pieces should be something like this (I believe the shield just poofs rather than degrades:) Damaged Bronze Greave, 60/40 repair rate, ~2kgc repair cost Damaged Bronze Cuisses, 60/40 repair rate, ~2.5kgc repair cost Degraded Bronze Plate Mail, 50/50 repair rate, ~6kgc repair cost
  22. Is there any time to add an option to disable the achievement window at runtime, maybe a toggle somewhere in the Options or an addition to an existing context menu? Sometimes it's not optimal to have the achievements window display. For instance, I often accidentally click on my character when flee training. I would imagine there might be other times it would be a disadvantage as well - possibly in pk.
  23. Thank you very much bluap.
  24. This isn't exactly a game ending issue, but since the behavior is sporadic it seems buggy. When I click on a bag to walk to it, sometimes the contents of the bag are automatically added to my inventory without me having clicked "get all" or the "bag" window ever being displayed. Is this possibly related to the recent changes to the get all functionality? I'm running the latest client compiled from cvs on November 29 at 18:21 EST (GMT-5) Edit: If it is by chance related to get all, I have the option "empty bag automatically" toggled on.
  25. As the topic title says, achievement windows don't honor the "Hide Window" option.
