My question might not've been worded the best. Before 1.8.0 binary, I had no need for libpng3 to be installed and the game ran fine. I was wondering why does it need to be install now, when it didn't need to be install for the rc's to work. Thanks for your time.

Anyone have an x86-64 binary that doesn't hog sound?

Angus, did you copy the data files to usr/share/games/EternalLands ? The data dir could be set wrong causing the problem you mentioned. *I forgot you're on suse. On ubuntu it's ^^^^^^ .

I downloaded 1.8 static and have no harvesting effects. I keep clicking the ore because it looked like I had stopped. This was working before in the rc versions. I haven't changed any graphics files only a newer kernel version. I run Ubuntu kde & gnome. I searched synaptic for libpng3 and got: PNG library - runtime libpng is a library implementing an interface for reading and writing PNG (Portable Network Graphics) format files. This package is superseded by libpng12-0, and is provided only for transitional purposes. Why would we need an older version?

My update manager started and had an update for eternal-lands rc. I ran the update. My game started showing black characters. I did a map change in MM silver cave and the game crashed. A couple of things you can try: 1) Make sure your system is up to date, especially your video drivers. 2) If you crash repeatedly during the login process, try setting the "poor man" option from the settings window: At the login screen, click "Settings" select the "Details" tab and set the "Poor Man" option. If you continue to have problems check the Eternal Lands forums, especially the "Help Me" and "Bug Report" sections. If you post a message make sure you include information about your system; i.e video driver and version, operating system and version. Make sure you check your error log for clues too and include the contents in any forum report. The following is your error log contents. Note it is overwritten each time you run the game. I don't know how to find the error logs in Linux.

I had this problem before with Ubuntu and Eternal Lands. Right now, I can't remember if it was alsa or oss related. I did fix it by downloading both alsa and oss for my soundcard. It's built into my motherboard <laptop> on the intel chipset. Hope this helps you Angus.

Ubuntu doesn't have root set as default or a root password, so you use sudo instead of su.

Found it. Allow equipment swap. Edited: Could not find this at first. I was overlooking it.
