  2. Since the introduction of the new graphic engine (shader, vertex program), i had massive frame drop everytime i move the camera, togheter with hd spinning. Both go away in console mode, so i guess is a graphic issue. Moreover the spinning and fps drop get worse with compiled vertex array and vertex buffer object. My hardware is quite old (ati mobility radeon 9200 32mb on a ppc mac). The 1.5 client works smoothly. I would like to investigate my issues, any idea where to start or what the problem might be? Would also be nice to know if uvp 0 means that the client is using the old (1.5) graphic functions (doesnt seem so). I read that Mac virtualizes video ram, so you can load all the stuff you want, and is up to the system to copy what is needed in the vram. I found this while searching the net for a possible solution. I'm an OpenGL n00b, can hardly draw a polygon, but the article seems quite pertinent...feedback from an expert is appreciated Tnx.

  4. Display of damage (floating message) scaled

    patch is working fine...but i was wondering if the screen is a bit cluttered by numbers. I mean, while fighitng i have: - def and att xp floating - damage raining on my head - damage on the mob (lot more) - mana from pots - restored health - magic xp - oh, and healthbar (actually numbers there too) Maybe we could remove floating xp and let it "slide" next the statsbar...

    Actually elglext isnt there because it is generated by a perl script. You can use the terminal and create it with "perl glext.pl > elglext.h".

    mmm...for those who cant click properly try to disable new_selection under video tab (option panel). Then if you experience a frame drop with strange sounds coming out from hard disk, you most probably have a G4. Live with it for a while. In alternative you can follow these instructions: - download this (if clicking the link doesnt work, paste it in a new browser tab) - unzip el_osx.zip - copy the unzipped file "el_osx" inside EternalLands.app/Contents/MacOS/ - inside that dir there is an "EternalLands" file, rename it to something else (i.e. EternalLands_old) - now rename the "el_osx" you copied to "EternalLands" - you now have the client i'm using, fixed for G4 (and with sky too ) - start the client and enable new_selection If you cant understand the instructions, dont follow them For those with no textures, you can go to EternalLands.app/Contents/Resources/data/shaders/ and rename all the .vert files to something else. In alternative, open the <yourhomedir>/Library/Application Support/EternalLands/main/el.ini, add a line with #use_animation_program= 0 and save it. But you have to do this everytime you launch EL. Hope this works.

    same issue here. You can rename all the .vert files under EternalLands.app/Contents/Resources/data/shaders to something else and you will have uvp 0 everytime you log.

    I know exactly how you feel...i went mad to find what it is and still i dont get why it does so. However go under video tab and enable new_selection, it should fix it.

    Mmm...the point is: "is summoning a skill that makes you any better in combat?" My answer is that it could be, but it isnt atm since the only thing i can make out of it, is a dragon. Everyone else can have 4 giants at the same cost (maybe more if lucky). Forget about the dragon (and afaik Raz didnt read the book yet), take Raz and Asgnny and let them fight...there is nothing that Raz can do with her summoning lvl that Asgnny cant do too. Probably Asgnny can even do better due to high charm. A whole different scenario would arise if the chance of success of a summon from a stone and its control were linked to the summoning lvl/charm of the user...now Asgnny could be in trouble, Raz could use her 80+ lvl and the ranking have some sense. Otherwise, apart from that 10 people or less that can summon a dragon, summoning cant be considered (sadly) a combat skill. And about the money...yes, summoning is good money & xp (quite less of both lately). That's not a good point against it being a combat skill, fighters used to serp yetis and earn lot from them. And tbh, i dont care about gcs...remove the income and i will still summon...

    This could be true if NPCs arent selling powerful stones (yeti and up)...remove that source (or 3x the prices) and make us happy.

    And what is the most powerful creature or stone you could summon/make and how much could the summons kill before being destroyed (when used properly)? If you chose the situation and really tried, just what could you do (multi-combat map, etc)? I would not use a 'summon', I would use a summon stone, and as such, my summoning skill is of no benefit. I would love to know the last time summoning (not stones) was actually used in combat. I agree with Learner even if, as i said countless times elsewhere, summoning needs some tuning. Check my siggy for the last non-stone summoning action

    If so, i think is a good idea to include my new_selection fix, it will make many g4 users happy. Also we need to remove the "UVP" under FPS and correct the pathfinding issue. EDIT: also the moonmap.bmp isnt in the data pack, while all other sky_fpv_cursor files are...

  23. Pathfinding

    I noticed that, expecially on big monitors, a click on the visible terrain don't lead to character movement unless it's very close to the character. I searched through the code but cant find a check about clicked coords (something like an allowed walking area/radius). Instead it seems that after a click the coords are sent to the server that calculates a path only if the click it's not far away (just figuring things, not sure). On the other hand when we click on the 2d map the client calculates a path and follows it (in synch with the server). Now, why dont we use the pathfinder for 3d map too? This way all visible tiles would be reachable. Needed changes are easy (use pf_find_path instead of move_to). Second issue with pathfinder is that when you are walking and click on a door/npc/resource which is too far to be used, you stop walking. This is because in click_game_handler (gamewin.c, line 580) we call pf_destroy_path. Is there a reason or we can remove it and let the char keep walking? (or just stop it if the action is successful). I can provide a patch if you find the above issues meaningful.

    inside <yourHomeDir>/Library/Application Support/Eternal Lands/main/ (or test) you have the el.ini. Open it and set #use_animation_program to 0. Restart and cross fingers. If still doesnt work, go to eternallands.app/Contents/Resources/data and rename the shaders directory to something else. While you are at it can you test if new_selection works on your machine? (new_selection is under video option tab).
