  1. A version of the rosto

Nice effort bkc, but you're a minuscule drop struggling against an entire ocean of addicted gamers. Ah, but a ripple becomes a wave, little grasshopper. Anyway...back on topic: How about eliminating the entire deathbag thing altogether and everyone gets to keep their stuff? Oh, wait. I think there's already a stone for that. OH, I KNOW! How about if we just eliminate death!?! (Bkc is correct. Post like these scream "I didn't bother to put any thought into this post, so obviously I haven't put any thought into the suggestion.")
  2. New limited PK level maps/areas

This is all great and good in theory but not how its gonna work most people will get to the top of the arena they are currently in and then make money to buy armour and alch to get pp's they wont care about training stepping up or anything cause they will pwn in there own little arena. Hell most dp pkers that outgrow dp last about a month in normal pk then spend $100 to buy a dp character and start trying to own dp again. Most pkers love pk and put up with training they only train to pk so if you take away the need to train then most of them will never train never progress past the arena they are at. Having stepped arenas is a good idea but by the time most of the people asking for this get to 119a/d they will want a 120 level arena so they can fight in safety there. They will never be happy unless every fight they have is fair or in there favour so yeah they should grow some balls start training a bit and pking a bit more. Now i will be told that its not fair to ask noobs to get pwned to learn pk. Look at it this way its not fair to take pk away from any1 with more than 119 a/d just so korrode doesnt have to fucking train anymore. Randmck Tirun is right. One of the many (many) issues with those DPA characters is is that they are isolated. They own one arena, but how often to they ever venture out? They get to be the king of the hill in a nice little desert. A PK city with arenas close to each other offers motivation. They are no longer the king of the hill because there's another hill right next to them full of people daring them to move up. This is the solution.
  3. World of Warcraft! LOL!

    proper ftw ftw?
  4. PK server events

Sorry, Roja, read but hadn't had time to reply yet. Thank you for this system, and a subforum would be great! -Sy

  6. MrHide spawned invasions

I'm going to cross my fingers and hope he's about forty-five minutes late.
  7. Contest for tonights Invasion

I was going to give it a try, but bkc said it all beautifully. (And yes, I fell, but I wouldn't exactly call SyWren a warrior More like "meat and bone scavenger" ) -Sy
  8. Since we haven't had the update yet, I keep getting stuck in rocks and the game is running really slowly. I've looked around, but can't seem to find the last client for OSX. I figure I can run the main server off the new client and then try running the PK server off the old one, but I already deleted the files. Does anyone have it or know where I can find it? -Sy
  9. New messages for Leonard

I love this! My contribution: SCOTTY, TAEK MEH TO TEH VET CUZ I IZ DED!
  10. Spelling lesson for the day

Actually, it was a partly a political move on the part of Noah Webster when he started his American dictionary and school primers. Webster, and many Americans, wanted to separate themselves from the British as much as possible, and since an entirely new language was out of the question, creating an American spelling system seemed a suitable replacement. Brief history (warning: may bore some!): Webster wrote his dictionary in 1806 in part to purposefully separate American spelling from British spelling which he felt was overly complicated due to the British aristocracy holding on to Middle and even Old English variations despite the Great Vowel Shift and the influence of many dead languages. Which it was. Samuel Johnson had had an influence on the spelling of words with his dictionary 75 years prior and had often chosen the more complicated variant of a word partly to spite the common folks who were now learning how to read and write (formerly a privilege of the upper class). Webster, who hated the British aristocracy (and Johnson in particular), didn't feel that they should be torturing American children with archaic phonetics. So, he wrote his dictionary in hopes of creating a more literate society (the opposite of Johnson's intent). Right or wrong, the reason Americans spell many words differently isn't arbitrary or lazy. Note that we're talking about a 75 year difference. In fact the American and British spelling reforms started around the same time. British spelling (despite Johnson's influence) was still all over the place when Webster wrote his dictionary. Standards take time to solidify, especially when we're talking about something as fluid and evolutionary as language (although, these dictionaries and the printing press were certainly revolutionary). The point is, you still hadn't completely decided on the spelling of these words yourself. If you are at all interested in this topic, I would suggest reading the preface to Webster's Compendious Dictionary of the English Language in which he basically calls Johnson an idiot. Personally, if I were teh g0d, I'd ban the "alot" people. I don't care whose spelling reform camp you sit in, that's just obnoxious.
  11. Mizera CZE

And what, pray-tell, could possibly be MORE outlaw than this behavior? This person is purposefully skirting PK areas in order to kill players who aren't PKing (new players at that) for deathbags. It is cruel and unprovoked and is the reason we have the outlaw forum. These are the types of behaviors the community wants to be warned about in advance, especially new players. Thank you for your post, willowleaf, and it's good to hear your guild recouped your loss.
  12. Help me move!

-> Rio de Janeiro (São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro) meets the temp standard also Brazil is definitely on my "must see" list. I've thought about doing another international move, but visa requirements and funds would dictate that I get a job together before I leave the US. Right now I'm on a sort of "let's just see if I like it first" mentality about the job issue. I know, not wise, but really nothing about this move is "wise". Speaking of international moves, New Zealand and the UK are also places I hope to spend quite a bit of time exploring at some point; however, as an English (or ESL) teacher, the job issue really becomes a problem. As for the US, I do keep considering Portland. I spent a few days there last summer (although I have to admit, the girlfriend I was visiting didn't really let me see much of it during the day ). I really had a good time and the city seemed to fit me well. She says it very rarely gets below freezing, so I should be comfortable temperature wise. Chicago is a fun town and I know a few neighborhoods that I really like, but still on the list for various personal reasons. Scranton I hadn't considered, but it has the convenience of being close to my family, most of whom live in Maryland. I'll have to go visit that area. I'm definitely going to have to drive around and visit various places again before I decide. When I drove around the country last summer, I didn't really do it with the "should I move here" mentality. Unfortunately, the longer it takes me find a place, the longer I'll be away from EL! I'll have to occasionally log on to forums and perhaps post a few pics of the journey.
  13. How to disagree

    Yes, thank you!

  17. Macintosh OS X client 1.6.0 bugs thread

yes for now...we already solved it and going to release a fixed client. The same for smoother camera. You on a G4? I don't know how to add the code to the el.ini because it don't see any way to alter it. What I do is type (actually paste in) %use_animation_program=0 every time I log on. This shortcut might save some folks some time.
  18. Portland Tavern

    {OOC} Wow! Guess if I'm going to keep up, I might have to quit my job. (Not the first time I've made this observation since starting EL The good news is that after next week I get my Sundays back!) At any rate, I realized today that I still have Melisande's necklace in my pocket. Guess I'll have to find a way back in. It looks like you all are still a few hours behind me so I have some time. {/OOC}
  19. Macintosh OS X client 1.6.0 bugs thread

Right click doesn't work with some functions such as talking to NPC or trade No sound iMac Mac OSX version 10.4.11 2 GHz Intel Core Duo 1 GB 667 MHz RAM ATI Radeon X1600 OpenGL Engine ATI Tech Open GL version: 2.0 ATI-1.4.56 Edit: I found other el.ini in other folders. Deleted four in total and now everything except sound runs fine (so far). Edit: I have to enter %use_animation_program=0 every time I log on. I see above that this has something to do with locking commands, but I'm not sure how to change el.ini any other way. Could someone tell me how to do this?
  20. Portland Tavern

Left alone in cool of the night, SyWren watched the draegoni woman and the elf reenter the tavern. As she cleaned her dagger with a rag found on a vendor's table, she considered joining them, but could only be sure of one thing: if she did, surely there would be more blood, and this time it might be her own. The stones together were too powerful for any one person, and the bearers of the stones would never be at peace as long as they were apart. She knew there was only one choice to be made. Returning the dagger to its sheath strapped to her leg, she pulled the hood over her face and the cloak tight around her body and began the long walk to through this land until, in the early morning, she reached the port of White Stone and the boat that would take her to her destination. She arrived with the morning sun. Here, on Isla Prima, where all life begins and where it was rumored that even the lands themselves began, was (she believed) the most fitting place for a stone with the power to create life. She walked until she found the familiar old well whose depths seemed endless and was believed to reach so far as to touch the underworld itself. Here she stopped, held her hand over the well, and dropped the stone. There, lost deep within the earth below, she hoped it stayed. She turned, and felt the warmth of the morning sun on her face and the listened to the sounds of children playing a morning game in the wooded land nearby.
  21. One most worthy people!

I believe PaulB's post was simply to say thank you to someone who really works hard to contribute a very well-used and appreciated element of the game; however, anytime anyone tries to post a simple appreciation, there is always someone who jumps in and has to complain. Sort of reminds me of this post. Personally, I love Gossip, particularly how she always lets me know when there is an invasion when I log on (saves my but), and those oh-so-handy telegrams to/from the PK server (saves my friendships).
  22. Portland Tavern

SyWren caught the necklace the elegantly dressed elf had thrown, half expecting it what she would find when she opened her hand. It was indeed the same stone she had in her pocket. She shoved it into her pocket as well and could feel the two stones grow much warmer. She had cleaned the blade of her dagger, but it was still in her other hand. The barmaid placed the mug of ale she had ordered on the bar and SyWren snatched it up and began to down it quickly. The time for lady-like pretenses had come and gone. As she gulped the bitter-sweet ale, she briefly considered her course of action. She must know why she was here. The draegoni and dark elf had both left the tavern, but the old mage was still here. She considered confronting him for answers, but he seemed to be a man of many secrets not easily given over. The harpist, having seen all, may perhaps have secrets of her own, but there was still one other who knew. With a thud, she returned the empty mug to its place on the bar and snatched the full mug of mead the wealthy elf had left. She spun around and tossed it in the face of the orchan passed out behind her. He shook his head awake as she slammed the heal of her boot onto his right hand lying on the ground next to him. He sat up and grabbed at her with his left hand, but met the blade instead. He gave a high-pitched yelp as the blade pierced his palm and anchored his hand to the wall. "Who are you?" she demanded of the orchan. "Bitch!" he growled at her. She twisted the knife and he howled. "Let me go! I'm nobody. I was hired to find the stones." "Who sent you?" "An old man in Morcraven. That was his daughter, there." The orchan tossed his head at the spot where the body of the woman had lain. "Why do want the stones?" She twisted the knife again. "The man only said...there would...be five here tonight. I had... to get...them all." The ochan was now gasping in the pain. Five. She had two in her pocket. She had seen the draegoni with a third. Two more. SyWren wrenched the dagger from the man's hand and the wood of the wall behind it and stepped back, releasing him. The orchan clenched his wounded hand with the other and slumped forward. He was just a hired hand. He wouldn't risk his life any further. She turned to the door she had seen the draegoni leave by and walked out. She found the dark figure there in the alley with a letter in her hand. She looked startled as SyWren, bloody dagger in hand, stepped forward and demanded to know where she had found the stone and what she knew about it.
  23. The 7 Wonders of Draia

I can't figure it out. Is it a literal interpretation of a "sun" flower? or a Moses and the burning bush sort of deal? Despite my confusion, I love it. I have made two ELEs while sitting at this flower, so I believe in its power. And it's pretty.
