  1. Making Money From The Game.

I hate to say this, but I don't like any of the options. - P2P quests and maps would affect the storyline and role-playing aspects of the game. Obviously, some F2P people (like me) will never be able to understand or write about the maps and NPCs they've never seen. It goes against what you're trying to make EL into, Ent - a story-driven game, like you said in one of your interviews. Therefore, I fully agree with Tumaros' idea. Don't limit the maps. P2P quests, however, might be okay - depending on how they're structured. If they're like the god quests, and just involve things that don't really give any info on or affect the storyline, then I don't mind them. If there is information about the EL world that you cannot get in the F2P version, then I'm totally against it. - On the other hand, as many people have said, P2P items and perks (storebots, attributes, etc.) would affect the game balance. While this won't be much of an issue for the RPers, it would affect the people that play it as a game (rather than a story). Of course, I completely agree that any P2P item must not be allowed to be handled by F2P players. Fig's suggestion may help there. An alternative may be running both on the same server, and allowing P2P items to be used by F2P, but making them have completely separate effects. (eg. "Pink Cloak" may be a perk-cloak in P2P, but just an differently-coloured fur cloak in F2P). Likewise, weapon-damage may be severely restricted in F2P, but a P2P player would have much more effects when using it. I don't know whether this could be done or not, but it might be an interesting option to consider. Likewise, you could have specific P2P skills, like woodcraft or archery. It would not prevent F2P from using bows, but if you could work in some sort of exp limiter... - On the third consideration, splitting people into separate servers would fragment the current community, and most of the guilds. EL's strongest point has always been it's community. However, the main reason why people want to go to a P2P version is also BECAUSE of the community - namely, they want a more select, mature community. And keep in mind that If EL ever gets to the point where it is so big that it physically needs more than 1 server, you won't have a choice anymore. It may be better to split now, and let the two different servers form their own small communities. But you're going to get a lot of complaining from the guilds and oldbies. ... Still trying to think of something that will make everyone happy.. -Lyn-
  2. I don't exactly understand what you mean, but let me try to cover all the options: 1) People in the same guild can send guild messages to each other. 2) There are channels, PM's, and local chat. 3) There will be a buddy list implemented soon. 4) To talk to people off the game, there's the Forums, a whole host of instant messengers, an IRC channel, and a Yahoogroup, even. -Lyn-
  3. Come One Come All

Isn't it supposed to be the "Queen of Love and Honour", instead of "Lady of the Joust"? -Lyn-
  4. New Perk Idea

"Couch Embedded"? I don't understand that... why not just "Couch Potato", or "Glutton", or "Jughead Jones", or something like that? -Lyn-
  5. Market Chat

How about the opposite? I.e. Create a "pure market" channel, and abandon channel 3 to the chatters? The major objection either way seems to be one of numbers. If you want to advertise your goods or look for a particular item to buy, either way you want a lot of people to hear you. But the more people there are on channel, the more chances of people talking off-topic, chatting, etc. Since the market fluctuates a lot (by this, I mean the number of actual buying and selling messages), there are often long periods of nothing happening, and people naturally feel the inclination to chat on channel. Enforce the rules strictly, and people start complaining, since they have no one else to talk to on General Channel. So, it seems to me that the marketing system has to be redesigned from the ground-up. I heard of a method that seemed to be fairly effective somewhere, but I'm not sure if that will work here. (Sorry for derailing your thread a bit, Leeloo...just don't want to clog up the Forum with ANOTHER thread). How about locating the "market" in an actual place? Bear with me...I know what I'm talking about. What I mean by this is: create an NPC or bot similar to a store bot that will accept the items you want to sell, and allow you to set a price for them. It doesn't pay you any money for it upfront, though. Then, if a player wants to buy something, he can go to the "marketplace", talk to the bots/NPCs there, and buy the items for the price that the seller stated. The bot/NPC takes a small commission, and when the seller comes back to check the shop, hands over the rest of the money. Basically, it's enlarging the store bot concept and making it available for all players. Locate a bunch of store bots in a certain area, near a storage, and it becomes a marketplace. Pros: - Answers the 'numbers' problem. The marketplace is available to everyone, so you can be sure to find the item or a buyer. - Frees up channel 3 to become a chat channel, and occasional market. Cons: - Destroys most of the bargaining and flexibility of the current marketing system, since you have to wait for the seller to come back and change the price, instead of talking to them straightaway. - There is no possible way a store bot would be able to handle so many items from so many players at so many prices. (Unless someone was really clever...) - The current store bots would be very sad... The more I think about it, the more I feel that this system isn't going to work in EL, but I might as well post it up and see what you think. -Lyn-
  6. Hospitals

I had that idea a long time ago. If I hadn't retired as a healer, or actually managed to make a Healer's Guild, this would have been the main purpose. Ember, take note! (That's the real point of a Healer's guild... but maybe not Ember's Light - it's up to you). Of course, to be able to do that effectively, hEaL would have to have a lot of members, as 007 said. Put hospitals in the Church of Aluwen in Corren Town (it's close to KF, anyway), outside the WSC arena, and the building north of beam (where Granny used to live). I suggest a bot instead of an NPC. Make it a combination of a store-bot and a heal-bot. (ie. it buys health and magic essences, charges people for healing using the trade window, and accepts donations. Remove the 1 spell-per-second limit, though). hEal guild could maintain it and keep it supplied with essences for free (but it would also accept donations from other charitable players). -Lyn- P.S. If this bot suggestion goes through, can I donate my character to be the bot? I want Lyanna to be remembered in some way...
  7. Where are we - POST on Map :D

haha... apparently the country I'm living in is too small to see on the map - had to post as close as possible. -Lyn-
  8. Trying to pull all the major stories together

Oh no! Half of the stories are gone! Um... okay. We needed some major re-working anyway. With Ent's new world, a lot of changes need to be made. I'll start a new "pinned" thread later, for the new storyline. Might as well abandon this one. -Lyn-
  9. Maps As Rewards

Ah, I see. You can't access the map of a place until you've completed a particular quest, regardless of whether it is in your maps folder or not. Interesting suggestion, that. I don't have the programming knowledge to know whether that can be implemented or not, but it would be really cool - and actually serve as a good reward for the quests. It probably would not be very useful for the current continent (Seridia), but it might be VERY interesting if it could be tied in with the Second Continent (Irilion). Hmm...maybe a quest on Seridia allows you to find the map of the first place in Irilion, and you can only access further maps once you've completed the quests to find the map to that place... -Lyn-
  10. Maps As Rewards

Good idea in principle, but most likely it's not going to work in practice. Fan sites and capable artists will always be able to create their own maps and make them available for download eventually. And when that becomes the case, why go through the bother of a quest when you can download it easily for free? -Lyn-
  11. Summonable "spirits"

Implement this, and I'll come back to the game and come out of retirement as a Healer. So much more convenient than casting 20 Global Heal Spells for higher-level players and having them wait. -Lyn-
  12. Guess someone's name!

#7: Trop (port spelled backwards) i (eye) can (of Coke) o #10: Linux?
  13. Guess someone's name!

Quintus is correct. The real clue was the "he/she/it" comment.
  14. Guess someone's name!

Nope. (I didn't even know that there was such a player as Colossus...it makes sense, though...) Try again. (And think carefully about the clue I gave above...the key thing about that message is NOT the reset. You were on the right track before...) I could also easily write it as US US US US US or US US US US US -Lyn-[/b]
  15. books

pothead, if you're who I think you are (i.e. another character of an old EL player who knows better than to do this sort of thing on the Forums...), stop spamming. If not, and you're a genuine newbie who just happened to take a name that once belonged to someone else, I apologise. -Lyn-
  16. Guess someone's name!

I'll give you a clue: he/she/it isn't in the game anymore after the server crash - at least I don't think so. -Lyn-
  17. He meant changing the classification of Leather Gloves from the Weapons category in storage to the Tools category, not any change in the item itself. -Lyn-
  18. Guess someone's name!

Here's one (and I don't even need a picture, too..) US US US US US -Lyn-

  20. Eternal Lands Fact Files

Fact File: Corren Town Government: Democracy. Corren has an autonomous government, but does not have a Chamber of Commerce like Portland. Geography: Corren Town is in the Desert Pines area, on the north-western corner of Seridia. It is bordered by Kilaran Fields to the east, the Kamara Desert and Portland to the south, Evergreen Woods and the Tahraji Desert to the west, and the ocean to the north. Economy: Corren is primarily a port and a mining town, due to the proximity of the Crystal Caves - the largest and most extensive mine system in Seridia. The Crystal Caves house nearly all forms of mineral veins, metal ores and quartz crystals. Because of this, Corren has a very strong economy. History: Nothing of interest to date. Other notes of importance: - The Church of Aluwen is located in Corren Town. - Corren Town is the major market supplier in raw materials - something that the Dwarves in both Mynadar and Nordcarn are trying to overcome. Lyanna's Comments: - nothing as yet.
  21. AFK flag

Let me try to paraphrase this to see if I understand you correctly: When you start harvesting an item, you only have to click once, and it'll start off a program/subroutine that basically collects the harvested items every second (or whatever time is set by the server). Doing any other action besides talking will stop the harvesting. The experience limiter will still limit the player to exp gained from 120 successful harvests per hour. (please correct me if I'm wrong) 1) Basically, this means that all players will have something that has a similar effect to an autoclicker, but without the need for the program to continuously click. This would prevent many 'bear harvest' accidents, and therefore, would be good. 2) However, wouldn't this encourage afk-harvesting even more? The player will not need to worry about accidents anymore, and generally the exp limiter is already effective at preventing players from illegally leveling up. What the exp limiter cannot prevent is the player being able to collect TONS of items. This new system does not do so either. Basically, it seems like instead of fixing a problem, this will merely add-on to a strength. 3) I know you think macro-hunting is nearly useless, but that doesn't mean that we should just allow it and not be bothered to do anything to prevent it. The afk-flag may be one way of doing so. It's not a major improvement, I grant, but at least it may help a bit... The objective is not to make macroing impossible, but to make it so difficult and the alternative 'legal' method so easy that most people would not bother with macroing. -Lyn-
  22. Guess someone's name!

Haha... I don't BELIEVE it! I couldn't even guess my own name...  Nr. 9 is FallenMikac. (fallenMikac?) -Lyn-
  23. A work in progress

The trouble with spellcheckers is that as long as a word is spelled correctly, they don't check any further. I noticed quite a few words that didn't match the context and/or were in the wrong tense, but WERE spelled correctly. And yes, punctuation is something to work on...but I'll edit it once it's all complete. -Lyn-
  24. AFK flag

Erm.... how? If a player is macroing, he/she has two choices: either put the AFK flag on, or leave it off. If he/she puts it on, then obviously if the character still continues to do something, he/she is macroing. If the AFK flag is off, but he/she does not reply to any PM's or requests, it gives mods a solid, valid reason to accuse someone of macroing - especially if you write in the Rules that when afk, your afk flag MUST be on. -Lyn-
  25. newb island

Ohhhh you should consider cranny for either mod or NH...he would be great at that!!! (Why didn't anybody, for that matter???? :?: :?: :?: ) I agree. And while you're at it, promote Regar and Desole too - they can cover the late night/early morning shift in the U.S. -Lyn-
