    Well, back to this thread again...obviously my bot coding has gone really slow. I haven't had much time until now, and my Python experience had not previously taken me towards network programming so I had some things to work out first. Anyway, the EL Protocol Article seems to lack information about receiving data from the server (like PMs, trade requests, etc..) Maybe I'm just not reading it right. Can anyone help? (Sorry if these are newbish questions, one of my first networking projects and first working with a message system at this level of sophistication) Thanks Lum

    I also have a headset and recording software, I will be the main host, but I would love to have frequent guests on the show whenever possible...for the present, I am interested in doing interviews with well known players and developers, starting with Radu if he agrees, and moving on to various guildmasters. Drama is good, so if I can get two people with totally opposite opinions on the show and let them have at each other, of course with me moderating it, that would be awesome. If it takes off, we can make it a live show too... Thanks so much for offering to help, Kat and LoneWolf. I can think of two main ways I could use help: 1. Gathering content for the show/helping with scripts 2. Coming onto the show from time to time as a guest reporter (i.e. And now, let's have a quick update on <topic> from <player>) We can record interviews/interactions with Skype. Lum

First off I would like to thank everyone who helped me out these past weeks, the support has been fantastic! I especially want to thank those who volunteered to get themselves on the official Planning Committee. The committee consisted of myself, Curia (my sister), Enly, and Ferny. They have helped SO much and they need to be honored and thanked. So, now the moment you've all been waiting for: the final details of our gala! For those who didn't read the original thread, this First Annual High Society Gala in Eternal Lands is going to be (I hope!) the event of the year and a great deal of fun. So, here's the main info... Who: Absolutely anyone who wants to come and can be respectful and not interrupt. What: A fantastic gala with a fun-packed schedule (see below) that promises a great time. When: This Saturday the 14th, 6pm-9-pm GMT. (I think. ) Where: In Whitestone City. Inside the palace, there will be socializing/dancing throughout, but mainly in the throneroom (the first room when you enter). In addition, the library may serve as a hangout. Games/events will take place on palace grounds or elsewhere in Whitestone City (see below). Remember that dancing/socializing will be ongoing throughout the entire 3 hour period! So you needn't go to every single event. Why: To have some good fun and harness the old-fashioned community spirit that was once poured so lovingly into big events like this. Alright, now here is the schedule we have planned! All times are GMT and PM. 6:00 – Welcome Ceremony 6:30 – Hide and Seek 7:00 – Games in the Garden 7:30 – Masked Ball Guessing Game 8:00 – Trivia 8:30 – Grand Prize Raffle Drawing 9:00 – Fireworks/Closing So...info on each thing: 1. Welcome Ceremony: Speaks for itself. It will be held in the WSC Palace Throneroom. It will be very brief, and then we will get to socializing. 2. Hide and Seek: Curia will be hiding in three locations throughout WSC. The first to find her gets a prize! Since there are three rounds there are three prizes. Prizes are: 2k, Book of Frying Pan Construction (worth 8k), and Full Iron Armor (worth 25k). Meet outside the palace for this event. 3. Games in the Garden: This one is again hosted by Curia on the Palace Grounds. We will be playing some fun games for which you need bring nothing but yourselves It will be fun I can assure you. No competitive games for this one so no prizes. Meet in the garden for this one. 4. Masked Ball Guessing Game: This one is going to be run by Ferny. Basically, you will come with an alt, and try to guess who the other people are! The prize is a mirror cloak. The rules will be explained in depth there. Please preregister like so: /gossip tell maskedball My real name is Lumino and my alt is FrogPrince. This event takes place in the Master Suite. 5. Trivia: I'm running this one. I have 25 questions, all pretty easy, with various prizes ranging from 100-500 gc for each. A total of 7.5k gc is giving away, plus an extra 10k for whoever gets the most right. Meet in the auditorium. Shortly following the trivia, Storm_Shadow is reciting his story "Legacy" in the auditorium. 6. Grand Prize Raffle Drawing: The raffle is starting right now and will go on until the drawing at the party. You don't need to show up at the party to enter. Anyone can. Tickets are 100 gc each, buy as many as you want. The more you buy, the more chance of winning the prize which is now 30k. PM Lumino, Curia, or Enly to purchase a ticket. You can also buy them at the party. Please buy plenty, this money goes to pay for our event The drawing is in the library. 7. Fireworks!: Yes there will be fireworks as a grand finale to a fantastic evening! We will be casting magical spells in the dark on the palace grounds. It may cause people to lag out or crash the game, but it's the end of the party so who really cares This on is outside. (duh ) So! That's the schedule. Any ideas/questions/thoughts/comments should be directed to me. Now, there are still some things I need from you! Firstly, I need publicity. Please tell ALL of your friends, guildies, acquaintances, whatever. Get the message out, this is going to be HUGE. Next, I need some photographers. Anyone who can take screenies and post them on this thread will be much appreciated I'll put up a gallery of the finished product on the website. And last but NOT least, donate donate donate! PM me ingame with anything from cash to goods. We are currently giving away about 60k cash and at least 40k in goods, but if I can upgrade that it would be fantastic. We have four donations so far. They were from Lyanna, Ferny, Enly, and Heaven_EnHell and they are great exemplars. I'd love to get more stuff rolling in, so please PM me or anyone else on the planning committee! Also, we will have an official channel for announcements during the event which I will allude to during the welcome ceremony. If you come late, get a friend to hook you up with the number.     Well, I'm back....early. Too early. Went to Montreal for a few days, and on the way to Niagara, something blew and smoke started coming out of the air conditioner and we had to go home. Oh well, it was fun anyways and now I get to play EL again As far as the 6 months thing...hehe...I'd be all for it. A year is so very long to wait. But that's no promise, it's hard to work out. In addition, the Gala will be every summer in mid-July every year, the winter thing would be a totally different celebration; like the Annual Winter Festival or the Annual Snowflake Ball or something like that. Two different events, but that way there is one every 6 months. I'll talk with the planning committee and we will see if it's going to work out Thanks for the idea and the support everyone! Lumino

    Thanks for recording the gala with your bots One thing I think is even more desirable than your video is still images that can be rotated...watching the videos gets boring because there are times when nothing happens and you have to wait So what if you just had a bot standing and the admin could PM it /botname take_pic. Or something like that. And it takes a still frame that can be rotated and zoomed and such. Also, and this of course is way harder to code but not too too much really; what if you took an area and placed bots such that the person could actually move through the recorded world and watch things happen? Of course the issue is they would walk in squares where people are supposed to go per the recording...so maybe if you could have concurrent recordings from several bots and type #switch_view and you would move to another bot and what it is seeing at that precise moment. Just some ideas to make it better, it's already awesome. Lum

    Hello everyone! Thank you all for attending! It was amazing beyond my wildest dreams. We got about 200 guests which is STUNNING. We have made EL history, and it's all because of you guys. My name's Lumino as you see, and a lot of you don't yet know me, but you may have seen me at Llynara and Korrode's wedding (I unfortunately missed Icy's and Tirun's ) or some other event . I love to organize things and I'm quite good at it. So here we go...my sister (Curia) and I are planning a very exciting formal ball which we are calling the High Society Gala of Eternal Lands. Don't worry, you don't need fancy armor, lots of money or high skills to attend; it's about fun. When: We are planning this event for in about 3 weeks, on either 14th or 15th. The date and time are not yet set but as the party approaches you will be informed of this info. What: This is primarily a ball, meaning there will be "dancing"! (Or to whatever extent we can do it ). Now, this isn't about showing off with your attire (like armor, weapons, etc.). It's actually going to be a "costume" party; come as you normally look. Since I spend a lot of time in the mine, I'll probably show up as a "miner" (exc. cape, pick, etc.) Have fun with this! Be creative! You could come as a fur merchant or even a newbie . Why: Because we all need a good light party for some fun Where: (Tentative location possibility) Palon Vertas. More info to come on where in PV it will be. And now on to the most important part....the talent. Our setup will consist of a socializing/chatting area, a dining area, and a show/stage area. People will be circulating. And there will be entertainment at the show area, which is what we need to talk about here! The party could go on for hours, and I would be perfectly content with having shows throughout that whole time that you can pick and choose which to attend. If we don't get enough there would be times when no shows are on, etc. But if you're interested in doing an act, be it a stand-up comedy act, a play with some friends, or a lecture/speech, we're interested! We want a variety of things for people to watch. So, here's how it works: 1) Get your act together. Literally You have a little over 2 weeks to write and practice it, starting now. 2) Come to an audition time July 7th-10th. Audition slots will open up as the week approaches. 3) Perform your act start to finish for us. 4) Wait for our response. 5) If you're chosen, work out a performance time with us! If you don't get chosen, don't feel bad. Some shows will just not suit our style, and we may have too many auditions. Not everyone can do it, but if your show is decent we will try to fit it in. Be ready to take criticism too! If there's one little thing we want to change, we can ask you to, and if you will you can still be in. About appropriateness: you can have anything you want in the show, but please inform us of the "rating" beforehand so we are ready and can inform everyone what the ratings are. Please nothing extremely explicit/sexual. If it's over the top we won't let you do it. If you have special requirements (i.e. venue, equipment, seating setup), please tell us in your audition signup post and we will try to accommodate you. Remember, IT IS NOT YET TIME TO SIGN UP FOR AN AUDITION. WAIT UNTIL WE TELL YOU TO. However, please start preparing NOW! Also, I will be performing in one of the shows in all likelihood. Now, about contests/events! There will be as many as we can plan and set up! If you want to hold your own contest, there will be a thread soon with a link to a form you can fill out to give us info. You can also PM me in game of on the forum with your idea. If we like it, we will put you totally in charge of running it, etc. You can get your own prizes or we can get them for you. About prizes and other expenses...we can raise some money, but not enough for all the contests in most likelihood. Please post here or contact me if you are willing to donate any prizes or even just hard GC to help purchase them. If you give us money we will tell you EXACTLY how we spend it so there is no doubt that we may have "stolen" it. We're not about that, PM any of my friends or anyone who knows me. THIS IS LEGITIMATE. Also, know that this is a non-profit event. That means that all proceeds from raffles, and anything else you pay for goes straight to paying for prizes and supplies. Of course there will be proceeds, and they will go directly to next year's event if we have one. (Which depends entirely on the success of it, and of course the success of it depends on you!) One way we might make money is through renting out stalls for "shops". I'm not sure about this but for a small fee you could try to sell your wares. This probably won't work, but contact me anyway if you have any thoughts on it. Please consider coming, the more people the better! 50-100 people is a good goal, but more/less is fine! This is a community event, and if you consider yourself a fun-loving part of our EL community, please attend even just for a few minutes If you want to help in any way or have any ideas, don't hesitate to contact me or post here whenever. Finally, I will post info about time/location/etc as we have it on this thread, and a few days before the event I will create a new thread with the final info. Remember that all times/dates are totally fluid. If we have to postpone it a week, we might. Things can change. I might add modifiers/changes to this post so check this thread now and then.     NEWS: MAJOR UPDATE ON THE BALL INFO STATUS (eloquently put, eh? ) I have set up a small website at which you can read all the info on this thread (and some!), RSVP (guestbook style application), submit a donation, and submit a contest/event idea. This site will also have audition signups eventually, when it is time for them. PLEASE RSVP ON THE SITE SO WE CAN COUNT NUMBERS. I have edited my original post too.
