  1. Unfortunately I have to tell you that your 3D-card is as dead as a piece of hardware can be :P Unless I'm mistaken, 'cause it's really late at night here, and I'm kinda tired, but my search ended nowhere...

DIAMOND itself does nor support any old cards, they switched owners back and forth and I don't think that newer drivers than those that were provided on your Win98-system CD or driver-CD for the card exists at all.

This Diamond Stealth SE card of yours is it a PCI-card? Do you know that?

You can do one thing for me, just to make sure: download the toold WinS3ID.EXE from THIS site, run it and post back with the results.

Also go to SiS product identification and click YES each time (2x) a system pop-up appears that will ask you to install a certain plugin for your browser. After you receive the results, copy & paste them into your next reply.

But to be honest... you should really think about getting yourself a new, if not up-to-date then at least up-to-yesterday :D 3D card, yours is a dinosaur and you won't be happy with it. Still.. try what I said and report back.

  2. yeah duran.. I'd vote for it anytime!

It would be a lot better if we had a bar that counts down and then completes the manufacturing of an item instead of just clicking multiple times. The mixing was done easier now (thanks god... and god in here is Ent *g*), but for future I'd love to see your idea implemented.

No more 100x clicking, instead "countdown for manufacturing". This way lvl-ing up will need more time, but that's also the point. Today I made like over 200 (so I think) leather gloves to lvl-up from manu 12 to manu 17 -each of them in 1 second (for successful attempts). And the whole process was like sitting around and clicking like mad just to get the job done, but it didn't take me much time - so I'm sure you could do it a bit more time consuming process without scaring ppl away.

  3. My idea was more like to make ppl aware of an upcoming attack (as I said 5 minutes before the attack takes place) so they can gather for a fight and wait if the monsters attack their location. If you and your friends gathered at WSC and the monsters attack VOTD, then other players will tell you where they've been attacked and those players at WSC will try to get there (teleport rings, ships, etc). I didn't say it should happen on Isla Prima, as for the other maps, newbies will have enough time to leave the dangerous areas as soon as they perceive the warning.

As for ppl camping at storages... they will still do it. We were talking here about 1 raid a week or 1 raid each 3-5 days. Those attacks would be to rare to scare ppl away, they will still gather at storages. The main idea was not to solve the problem of crowded storage places, but to bring more fun into the game.

A possible scenario as I see it could be:

    1. A warning about an incoming horde of monsters appears on the screen.

    2. Players start to gather in places they know the attack could take place (cities, villages). So some are at WSC, others at VOTD, Portland and so on.

    3. Those who don't wanna fight can flee to Isla Prima, or just deposit their stuff and wait naked to see the action.

    4. Now finally, after 5 minutes the horde arrives at... let's say WSC. The ppl who are at WSC start fighting and send messages to other players telling them that they are under attack, so all the other players from VOTD and Portland, etc. try to get to WSC to help out.

Besides you can make the monsters attack 2 locations, to prevent all players to come to 1 place... otherwise it would lagg like hell.

Thus adding high-lvl monsters to the horde should be still an option, because otherwise there will be no challenge for high-lvl players, only goblin slaughter...

  4. @rebootedrock: you will be able to buy the rings of course only after a couple of quests and not at the same moment you start serving the god. e.g: So you need to do at least 7 quests (2 quests to get to rank 0, and 5 more for rank 5+) for the god to be able to buy the rings/meds/other magic items. It would be the same as with the tit-mail, i mean 40 or 50plat are still quite a sum, but I know what you mean... something should be implemented to prevent such cheating.

I think I know... it's actually easy. Only players with magic-lvl higher than 15 or 20 will be allowed to buy those magic items. This way you prevent ppl from making newbie characters and giving those characters money so they can buy cheap rings. The cheater problem you've been talking about would be solved.

  5. duran, you misunderstood me a bit. I didn't suggest attacks on storage places, I just pointed out that monster/animal raids on cities or villages would be pointless right now because most ppl are found around storage places and not within cities/villages and I don't think this will be changed so soon.

What I suggested was implementing monster/animal raids on cities/villages combined with those warnings (perhaps the first warning appearing 5 minutes before the actual raid), but not telling the people where exactly the raid will take place.

And, as an addition to it, raids on CC and other mines, but this time WITHOUT any warnings.

Though you have a point there in saying that raiding monster stronger than goblins might cause a slaughter, but keep in mind how many high-lvl players we already have, and most of them have stats higher than 24 (goblin). Even I with my 21/21/21 can already take on a skele pretty easily by using the shield-spell and drinking a def-potion (+ 1 or 2 BodyRes potions in my pocket to recover health). So if you make ONLY goblins attack, such raids will be fun for newbies, but boring for everyone else - no challenge there.

Therefore I suggest mixed attacks, like in the 2nd part of Lord of the Rings (the movie, just want to help you imagine the situation) in Moria. The main force may be goblins, then for some higher players orcs, gargs and a Troll perhaps, or a ogre. eg: 15 goblins, 3 orcs and 1 Troll or Ogre. or perhaps: 20 goblins, 5 orcs, 2 trolls or ogres. This way a wider range of players will be challenged.

Oh yes, and you are absolutely right, ALL this stuff will only work the best if the current fighting system changes to allow Team-attacks on 1 monster and let even low-lvl players hit much stronger monsters (so like 5 ppl with stats of 25/25/25 can take out an ogre).

    Ideas for future use

  6. The whole "wearing" grid could use a renewal IMHO. It could look like in other RPG-games with the shaded contour of you body in the background and boxes for the respective item class. Meaning rings & medallions should get their own boxes so you can wear them without taking up space you could otherwise use for a sword - same with clothes. And so on...

Yes, I know I said ...like in other RPG-games..., but you can't make the game all unique without influences from the outside. Such a system is used by almost all RPG-games with great success.

Perhaps it's already planned? What do the dev's say?

  7. I like the suggesstion with random RAID-attack too, but it has one problem... the cities right now are pretty empty. Noone stays for long in Portland or WSC, you never see a lot of ppl in Lakeside Village also. The only places that are crowded right now: VOTD and DP storage, although DP-storage is not that full cause most of the ppl mine in CC and only come out if they need to deposit something or for potion-making, alching (essence alching, not bars), etc.

So the wolf pack will come, but only a handful of ppl will ever take part in defending this attacks. If you make something like this, I think advance warnings should be implemented, but they should not tell which place is going to be attacked, so ppl just gather at different cities and wait if the attack comes to them. A warning (blue or RED (yellow?) message) could sound like this: "Our scouts have spottet a pack of wolves in the woods of Tirnwood Vale, they appear to be moving north-west" - but the thing is the wolves can turn south-east to Lakeside Village again, or they may pass WSC and attack Corren in DP so you will never know until the actual attack appears.

And just think how cool it may be if one day the CC will get attacked by orcs? Imagine.. a lot of ppl there are miners who haven't trained their combat skills so much that they can take out a orc, so if CC gets attacked by orcs players will start sending help-requests, trying to flee... some will stand up and fight to help others escape. Players with rings will just teleport out, but those without may die of course  - but this is live and I think it will be interesting. I'm ready to lose my harvesters cloak and work hard to be able to buy it again, if something like this gets implemented - the game would become more challenging. And as for Orc-raids on CC in this case there should be no warnings, no messages that tell that orcs are coming, because if you warn the players they will just get out there in time and instead warriors will come in. Orcs may come through hidden tunnels, undetected.

Woaa... I'd really love to see raids and attacks on CC in-game.

  8. Yeah... I like duran's idea, although this way other ppl who don't serve the god of magic will also be able to get those rings without doing any quests, just by paying money... and most of high-lvl player do have a lot of money. But, on the other hand it's the same as with the tit-armor now, and as far as I can see it works well. Hmm.. perhaps make the first ring of each kind you buy relatively cheap, and increase the cost from that point dramatically, so not everyone can afford to buy more rings to sell them, e.g:

    1st ring of Death (2xdeath essences) = cost 20plat

2nd ring of Death (if you have already bought one) = cost 500 plat

Same for all the other magic items. Well it's just a suggestion, the price for the second ring may also be lower, but think of it... high-lvl players shouldn't have problems paying 500plat for something THAT useful...

  9. We're working towards a better system, but I thought we could at least get this much out now to help everyone.

Ahh, thx for the info, I'm looking forward to see the new system one day then :D

So far the new things that were added are just great! I absolutely love how my mixing items are taken automatically from the inventory (sometimes I forget it and add them twice  ), I've also resized my characters name as you suggested to 0.80 and it looks exactly the way I wanted now.

  10. sam, I don't need to be LVL-30 in magic to judge about suggestions for the MAGIC-god (not POTION) you make. Even now at LVL-16 I WOULD LOVE to have a Full-restore potion, since I'm using magic all the time (shield spell, remote healing and poison sometimes) and the Spirit-Res potion that give 20EP back we have now, are just not enough. Besides, I assume that we ALL have the same MAX amount of "etherial points" be you lvl-10 or lvl-30.

sidenote: ~ Etherial Points are also used for summoning, not only magic. ~

Gods should give you bonuses that affect the respective skills directly, and for potions I think we need a Potions-god involved in this. One way to implement it would be: if you serve both the potions-god and the magic-god you can make/buy those potions, not implicitly after you've done all the god-quests, but rather as a extra-feature in between. (lets say at rank +5 or so)

  11. As far as I can see your log looks fine, with one exception:

    === Running processes:

    C:WINDOWSTempSvchost.exe

This file should not run and in fact be there, so first go to START -> RUN and type CMD then press Enter. In DOS type "tasklist -s", the output should look like this (but not exactly, only similar):

    24 LSASS.EXE Svcs: PolicyAgent,SamSs

    04 svchost.exe Svcs: RpcSs

    28 spoolsv.exe Svcs: Spooler

    64 svchost.exe Svcs: EventSystem,Netman,NtmsSvc,Ras

    612 WinMgmt.exe Svcs: WinMgmt

    840 CMD.EXE Title: L:WINNTsystem32cmd.exe - tlist /svc

and so on. In the first column you see the PID (Process Identification - number), then the name of the file, and what services it runs or it's location. Now in your case among other stuff you should find a line like:

xxx - where "xxx" is the PID you should remember.

Now invoke your Task Manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+Del, switch to the tab "Processes", find the Svchost.exe with the PID-number from above, highlight the file and click on End Process at the bottom.

I hope you are able to stop the process. So if you succeded, navigate to the folder "C:WINDOWSTemp" and delete ALL the files you find there, especially "Svchost.exe" - but don't delete the folder "Temp" itself!

Restart your computer, run HijackThis again and check if you can find

    "C:WINDOWSTempSvchost.exe"

under "running processes" as in your last logfile. Actually you shouldn't.

    btw:

    - NortonAV haven't found any viruses on your PC?

    - And what about Ad-Aware? Did it find some spyware?

Oh, and there is a new version of the EL-Client available, so either download the UPDATE for your existing version, or download the Full version (full version might be the best choice in your situation)

  12. This is a bit illogical sam... why would the God of MAGIC give you the ability to create of let you buy a potion? This should be something for a god who is aligned with the Potions-skill, although I haven't read anywhere that such a god is planned, there should be one... One god for each skill.

The god of magic should give you the ability to cast a new spell, or a couple of new powerful spells. Perhaps magic items (armor? weapon? Rings? Medallions? etc.).

Even though a Full-Restoration Potion would be really cool, it belongs into a different category.

  13. I think that this idea really should get some attention, after all

buying 100 health essence costs 15,000 gold!!! and making them takes too long and is impractical.

15K gold are not worth mentioning once you have aquired a certain lvl in one of the major skills and start earning money. So if you can't afford to pay 15K gold, then you are not there yet and you should start thinking about getting more money.

  14. !!! - read the whole post before you start trying anything - !!!

You see.. the problem is that SiS does not manufacture any cards themselves, they only manufacture chipsets (the black thingies you see on cards and boards) for Mainboards/VGA cards, thus other manufacturers.

I want you to try some more things: go to SiS product identification and click YES each time (2x) a system pop-up appears that will ask you to install a certain plugin for your browser. After you receive the results, copy & paste them into your next reply:

    It will look like this:

    -----

    North Bridge Chipset: ???

    South Bridge Chipset: ???

External Graphic Card ( Standalone GPU ): ???

    Integrated Devices:

    Integrated Graphic Processor: ???

    AGP: ???

    IDE: ???

    USB: ???

    USB: ???

    Audio: ???

    LAN: ???

    -----

Also, try to identify your hardware again with this tool: BenchmarkHQ Sandra 2004 (2004.10.9.89) - it's quite simple to navigate and might give you more info on your 3D-card than AIDA32 did.

Other than that, since you have already installed the AGP card onto the mainboard you can as well take it out again? (I believe). So turn off your computer, take the card out of the case, write down WHATEVER numbers and letters you find on it (on the PCB itself, on the chipsets, ect) and report back with all the info.

But wait a second... while I was writing I've found a driver that might suit your needs, download it from HERE

if you get asked about username & pass:

    Username: drivers

    Password: all

It might be a good idea to download the program they will be talking about on the next page - DriverGuide Toolkit to backup your old drivers, though it's not necessary.

So... try out those drivers, then run the game again. If the game still crashes do ALL the stuff I told you to do in this post and report back again.

  15. COMPAQ WITH RED LETTERS

    - no numbers? Are you sure that there are no additional letters or numbers next to "compaq" or somewhere else on the case? Something like "Deskpro XE 433S"? Even all the old 486 compaq computers I've seen had at least some series ID written on their cases. Sorry I just had to ask again :)

So does your computer crash the same way each time, have you tried?

Well if you had to PUT THE CARD IN (into the AGP slot), then it's a AGP-card and not just a build-in graphic chip on your motherboard. Like HERE, see?

Ok, I'll try to find the drivers now....
