  3. 18/11/07 Invasion Pics

Wonderful stuff! Of course I have to add to the pile..... (first two are Clickies.) OMG saving storage (and me trying to cast Harm and Heal on the right entities!) Took forever for this dragon to get to me, I must have poisoned him 20 times! But in the end..... Couldn't resist this one...
  4. play this game and tackle world hunger

Clever! Worth passing around... got 42 before my brain hurt. Must eat breakfast first!
  5. Guild Members Meeting in RL

I shall be there!! In your basement harv'ing your roxxors!!
  6. Guess the movie

Yea! Verily! Yea! I knew someone would get it!
  7. Tinkerbelle

Oooo! Tink likes kaGen! Wait'll I tell Gossip!! Did an unscientific test yesterday with another player, each spending about 1k gc on Tinkerbelle. He won numerous items of all different values, and I got all fortune cookies! Go figure! I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles No complaints... we were playing with his money anyway and he gave me a few choice items.
  8. Windows RC 3

I'm glad you are discussing the subject of low-end computers! Please do not slow down the progress of Eternal Lands for our sakes, however. If we can spend the time to play EL on our 'last century' machines, we can also scrape up the funds to at least upgrade what we have, or buy the new low-end machines. There may yet be deals out there like my 1999 E-machine was free with three years of CompuServe. At the time, the service was fair and the machine was tops! That's how I found EL!
  9. Guess the movie

Before I hop the "Waggon that's a' laggin'" I'll post a hint pic to keep this thread alive that my "thrillin' keeps a' killin'" just in case of on account of because.... This man is a bald faced liar about what's in the basket! Now I go runnies with the bunnies! ~Um, that did not come out right.....
  10. Next Invasion

The only thing wrong with politics is when you are the half-alive 'citizen' laying in the street with your shot-up leg being trodden on by towns-folk running from armed uniformed lunatics being paid by the Generals who run the country. Think Burma (Myanmar, according to the generals.) Enough... I apologize for bringing it up Just remember that when an army has more commanders than infantry with a haphazard communications system, things go totally wrong! In any situation I would follow the advice of Gicu, who has always recommended great strategies in the past.
  11. Windows RC 3

In reference to Popeye's original problem, I had the same issue. When I attempted to log on with an alt that I created on RC1 or RC2 (forgot which) the name was recognized but the password was not. I left it alone and created another character. For some reason this happened with an alt created on the main server when RC1 was being tested. It just seemed obvious that with all the rearrangement on the test server, character updates could easily be out of synch. Mugwump is still his jolly old idiot self back before his last reset (about two weeks.) Now he's even jollier! And thankfully smilier and chubbier! Might be my imagination, but the new appearance of the characters seems to have the staring off into space more intensely than they have been. It's just barely noticeable, and probably due to the fact that on the test server there is nobody around to stare AT most of the time. Otherwise the new looks are wonderful! Yays to Roja!! Any further improvement would involve lots of server space I imagine. How much would it take for flexible necks like goblins or blinking eyes and roving pupils? We have always been a rather stiff bunch! Although my feeble computer keeps EL's FPS down under 10 most often and this update will slow me down a little bit more, I have found there is still wiggle room to make adjustments. With all video enhancements off I can still make the client screen smaller and turn off all sound effects (*sob* I love them!) as well as my Anti-Virus and other maintenance programs plus all the background MS crap to scrounge a few FPS back. Just zooming in a little does wonders! If anyone else has 'Old & Slow Computer Issues' follow the above, and have faith... EL will still play you into desired Happiness!!! ~~~ and again: Thank You Roja, Entropy, and all the Devs and Volunteers who made this upgrade great!! ... and yes, I'm a suck-up.... but an earnest one!
  12. Next Invasion

Please keep politics out of EL.... Would you like George Bush declaring war on Hurquin because of... um... on account of because! That's why!! When an invasion begins madness ensues no matter what. Those who are strongest and have the experience to take on the most difficult foes become the 'generals' automatically. Nearly everyone else becomes meat for the enemy no matter how much damage they can inflict (and those of us who do fight and die are as valuable as those who fight and survive if not moreso.) Trying to create a hierarchy of rank outside of guilds will turn EL into a mass of uncooperative hating people willing to chop each others heads off, and to hell with the invasions! Few of us don't know the familiar quote, but most of us don't know it correctly. Here is my favorite version: "Those who do not study History are doomed to repeat it." ~ Georges Santayana, Mexico The examples are in your schooling, your library, your newspaper..... and enough on the web to turn your brain to smiley-flavored Jello.... No leaders please, just occasional heroes!
  13. Windows RC 3

Probably an unnecessary post, but I have to say it. I started a character on RC3 to run through all the routines last night and come 1:00 I went to bed. Instead of shutting down the computer as usual (it being in my humble room and the LED's can keep me awake) I sat down at beam, turned the volume up, and activated a blank screen saver. This allowed me to listen to the new birdsong sounds while I fell asleep. I just now woke up and have to say I haven't slept that good in years!! ~~~~~ So far I've only been to IP and VoTD (Molgor and Liliana) for rabbits, beavers, rats, brownies, and lilacs. Everything has been flawless. ~~~~~ I'm not particularly concerned about the sound effects. These are just things that came to mind: It occurred to me that if the water/ground sounds become an issue, possibly implement a muddy shlurp sound and allow a volunteer to go map by map to add it to questionable tiles. (I'd be willing.) The veggie and bread eating sounds remind me suspiciously of three chomps on a mouthful of potato chips, the flat crunchy ones not the long fat ones. It's a common activity and might grind on some ears. The skeleton sounds are so close to the sound of a 'rain stick' that I can't get it out of my mind! It's very appropriate, but some change to the sound could make it less musical and more of a 'dead bone clatter'. Adjusting the sound values won't tone down my 'Eeyargh'ing and 'Heeyagh'ing without turning down more interesting sounds. I'm not much of an emoter in RL when cornered other than letting loose with profanities or diplomacy (which always works .) I feel silly pwning a beaver, deer, fox, dragon, etc. while grunting like a samurai! This is probably just me, but it would be nice to be able to control that specific volume. My fluffy felines tear ass out of the room when they hear it! Might I suggest a set of sound files for the NPC's? Just two for each type of NPC and only a mumbled greeting and goodbye. I can't assume I know how this would be programmed, but the sounds would do a lot to personalize the game. The above was only picky imaginings, I already love the sound effects! The reason I bring up any changes is just part of human nature. "If it exists, we can make it better!" That one I did not make up! Stupido Erecto figured that out 20,000 years ago.... thus, us! ~~~~ I've noticed some halting movement different from the main server. As my FPS is normally under 12, I am not surprised. On the main server even when my FPS is 3 or 2, my movement remains regular. On the test server with no crowd around, my FPS can go over 15 (which is soooo smooooth!) however my movement seems to stop for a tenth of a second or two and then continue. It may be lag, which I've never identified before with such a low FPS, but has not happened previously on the test server, just this client. ~~~~ All in all, I love it! None of the above changes that. The upgrade gets along with my Stanlely Steamer machine, which means I'll be begging my landlord for $5 to PayPal Entropy for a try at the PK Server! I will continue to follow through the obvious routines on the tester and post whatever I think of. Don't take it as a demand, all I mention here are thoughts and not necessary for my life to achieve perfection. I gave up on that decades ago! Love them Devs!!
  14. Windows RC 3

Thank you Piper, 2Cool, Thunder! I'm sooo ashamed! I knew this... once! Sux to get old! And it's working smoothly on a WinXP Dell, 600mhz CPU and 384 RAM with an NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 Pro graphics card, and Verizon FIOS fiber optic broadband. FPS all the way up to 13 on the test server! Yay! (Poor Man, no Candy, Perspective 25,) but the game and sounds still play!
  15. Windows RC 3

That's what I expected, but in my XP all that shows is the opportunity to change the filename. "el.exe" to "el.exe test" won't work there. Here's a screenie: (clicky) I remember changing commands easily with Win98, am I nuts?
  16. Windows RC 3

I apologize, but my density has kicked in. I know this stuff! (or used to...) Where do I access the command line that I need to change to 'el.exe test'?
  17. weekend invasions

The one part about the weekend NDD invasions that works well for harvester/mixers is the NDD. On the previous Sunday I was cranking out HE's in MM when I reached down to pet Fluffy. Looked back at the screen and I was in the Underworld, blindsided by.... Fluffy! No reason to complain, didn't lose a single item due to NDD! Did a little healing with the few ME's in stock and headed for PL storage to get the rest, then go back and heal some more fighters. Even if wanted to ignore the invasion, I could stay on IP selling veggies to the tavern til C1 calmed down a little. I enjoy the invasions even if I don't participate just for the excitement and camaraderie that goes on. For people with EL time limited to Sundays at these times, I can understand it being frustrating. Maybe the times and days should vary a bit. If I have any complaint about invasions, it's toward my feeble computer and not the devs! My FPS is so low that even getting caught up in a swarm of brown bunnies I freeze up and the client occasionally crashes. Should I ask that invasions be more scattered and sparse over each map so I can move a little? Um, probably not!
  18. Weekend day for invasion

It hasn't been mentioned that this might be a regular weekly event. if so, how about a somewhat rotating schedule where the NDD's and invasions start a number of hours earlier and moving up three hours the following week. Maybe four or six different starting times and days. The point being to cover more players in-game hours as well as making drops more available for those that play during the current invasion schedule. I understand that it's difficult for the organizers like Gicu and Acelon, etc. to accommodate every time zone with events, plus the point of holding these events when the most players are active is logical. Maybe there are players willing to learn the art and volunteer to host these events eight hours away from the usual time. Obviously I don't know nearly enough about the game system to believe this could happen, but there must be a few players who do and could!
  19. Just A Thank You ...

That reminds me of the "But Concept", in which during the first few positive comments the receiver says: "I feel a "but" coming on here!" Anyway, this post is to acknowledge and thank LadyBea and Moebird for a very entertaining 'Ant Hunt' on Saturday night. I didn't have to win a prize to really have fun, and it seems everyone else felt the same way. Thanks, ladies!
  20. Kill the post above

    Ol' SudsHead is goin' down!
  21. NPC prices for high end equipment

*Grunt* *Snort* Oog pound on Ogg *Grunt* with stick and bone.... There is something to be said for that.... I hate to continue sounding like a broken record*, but what is the need for changing so many things in the game before the PK server has even begun? How quickly will we be able to afford high-value weaponry and armor? How quickly will we have built up the nexus to use or make it? I would think a concern like this may take a while to become evident and the options will be different than offered here. So long as we can't pay $$ for the privilege of killing everyone we see, things should work out fairly. *'Broken record', another reference to Oog & Ogg.....
  22. NMT cape breakable, part 2.

My two cents: (old Yankee term for a personal opinion that probably won't make any difference anywhere.) I advocated, and still do, for 'vanity items' bought from the website to be unbreakable, which will not come to pass. No big deal. The reasoning behind breakable does make sense, and everything in the game that we have earned (by any means) is/are breakable. Why should any cloak be different? Obviously, the value of the item, NMT cloak or sewing needle, can be regulated by value and break rate. The math involved is way past my brain mush, but I believe that all items should be breakable depending on the odds. Yes or No is really the wrong question. The break rate should be the source of this debate. 1:10 or 1:1,000,000,000.... or whatsoever in between. It seems the simplest 'yes or no' poll causes more anger than valuable input. But now it's too late 'cause I posted in the wrong thread....
  23. Just A Thank You ...

I want to add a thanks to Acelon specifically for his well prepared post-invasion EL Quiz last Sunday! So well planned and organized, questions well written and assembled in subjects... better than any teevee game show I've ever seen! In all disclosure, I did win a prize. By luck, having recently visited the places the questions were about, and by default due to correct spelling. The point is the people that work hard for EL make it wonderful for those of us who just play and don't pay. My real prize came when I discovered EL for the first time, and that ain't no toothpaste commercial. Say so and I pwn j00....
  24. Guess the movie

I'm taking the liberty to post this one in the name of Peino to keep the thread moving, it is a suggestion of his... (the photo is B&W, film is in glorious Technicolor!)
  25. Quote of the week submissions
