  2. Better death graphic needed.

Nonsense! Us mighty Dwarven folk when slain stand tall short and proud, then disappear in a vast cloud of ore dust blinding all within 4 rods around!!
  3. 56K Modem

Modem works well for me too. The downloads are long but only a few. I do notice that surfing or using other web services will cause some nasty lag, it's best if I only play the game with no more than one web page open.
  4. Football: English Premiership 06/07

I'm just a iggerant Yank not quite following this thread carefully, but I have to ask a question. My housemate hiding in the basement with his big-screen has been in the States for some 25 years, but he is a Sunderland man through and through. Most of his family is still there, and whenever he gets a match on the screen you can hear the hollering through the neighborhood. I hate to ask him about matches as he was a school coach years ago and gets all frothy when the subject comes up! Hey, for me EL is sports.... So how does Sunderland stack up amongst the Arsenals and Man United's, etc.? And go easy, lumps of coal will be flying about the house if I make any improper remarks....
  5. Alcoholism

I was disappointed to see the results after I did the poll. Maybe most people haven't seen the damage that alcoholism can do. Here's a simple example. I have a dear friend of *ick* almost 30 years now, with whom I've shared apartments, girlfriends, hallucinogens, music taste, cars, you name it. Out greatest feats of uselessness have entailed drinking each other under the table with amounts of alcohol far beyond respectability. In 1998 at the level of a case of beer a day, I developed a bleeding ulcer. High stress at work and handfuls of aspirin didn't help. A week in the hospital and I realized that alcohol or not, I was exactly the same and had no cravings for beer or booze. After five years of not thinking about I tried an experiment and got drunk. Aside from a hangover, nothing changed. Now I drink if there's a good reason, such as a celebration or a particularly fine wine or liquor. There's no reason to guzzle beer all day, tap water works just fine. My friend on the other hand slowly went from the party and social drinking scene to the fancy brands of vodka either alone in a bar or with a bottle at home. He had a high pressure suit and tie job, and when the alcohol got noticed at work, the company sent him to dry-out retreats. Three of them over the years. He even became a bigwig at local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and sponsored other members. Twice. No matter how sober he made himself, it couldn't last. Every time he started drinking again, he would pick it up at the same pace as he left it. Then to make up for lost time, it accelerated, which is typical of alcoholism. Last March his landlord found him passed out on the floor in very bad shape and after two months in hospital and nursing home he was back on the AA track by July. He nearly died from that one. Back in September, he dropped by my place out of the blue which never happens. Drunk as a monkey... He thinks it's controllable, and knows how to control it. Yeah, right..... That's a personal but small example I can offer as testimony that I know for damn sure that alcoholism is a disease, some folks got it, some don't. Those who do have a very hard time controlling or just can't. It's a brain thing, and it can be treated. It should not be taken lightly! Sorry for the essay, the subject gets me going and I knew if I was going to read the thread I'd spew some gut. Beorn, by the way, that's Jim Morrison on your avatar, right? Do some research on his health and habits. Particulary see what Ray Manzarek has to say, I think he understands the devastation involved. Meanwhile, good question, good post!
  6. That's a good lesson! Even if it's a fake conversation, it tells an important story. There are still plenty of boneheads out there who give their private info to anyone who asks! Someday everybody will smarten up and all this &@#%#^%#$ spam I get will dry up!!

  10. poems, help me

There once was a goblin from Ports-town, Who went on a killing spree 'round-town, Of newbies and rubes, Who watched their YouTubes, So he planted them all in the brown-ground.
  11. AFK Messages

~ Mine's boring: "Automessage: I am currently away from my computer, tertrtertrelp" I thought there was something familiar about that phrase!! Hurrah for the Goons!! (Enter Bluebottle with a smile and a song....) ~
  12. Newbie summoning!

Could call them 'citizens' instead of 'newbies'. How about just a few wandering ones (non-summonable) with different Material Point levels for different skill levels. It might appease those who prefer to kill people over animals! They could drop random stuff from gc to tools depending on difficulty of slay.
  13. Forum Skin

I think it's fantastic, Roja! Don't listen to them picky peeps! The nice warm browns and tans are right in there with the game itself, you have great taste in colors!!
  14. God reset

Godless is working for me since I'm going to reset after I get enough books read (put the 8 PP's in Will.) Once I'm happy with knowledge and skills I'll reset and work on Nexus and Gods, meanwhile I'm harvesting and reading real fast!!
  15. Lake Peigneur

Egads! That's horrific!! Leave it to us Yanks and our greedy corporations to screw up our own backyard faster than anyone.... That was worth waiting to see even on dial-up. I searched and found some more about it including this quote from http://home.versatel.nl/the_sims/rig/lakepeigneur.htm Of course now we have Shell and Exxon over in the Niger delta in Africa screwing up the country there....
  16. Take a look at Darken I've been following webcomics for a while and found "Darken" which fit's into Eternal Lands as a RP attitude or even a quest created by players. The main characters are bad guys, PK'ers, who are searching for the items that will give their leader the strength to assist his god Mephistopheles in becoming the leader of the Nine Hells. Or something to that effect... It is an engaging story with cleverly spaced wry humor and simple, emotional artwork. The artist/writer is a woman in England, her identity is a male drow in the comic, and I believe the head bad guy in the comic is her boyfriend. Don't take my word for it, I read a few weeks worth of Darken's forums and news posts. As it stands, the comic is ongoing and improving in art and complexity, and I'm hooked on it. I have started a character in EL based on the artists identity as a drow when the dark elf option was updated into EL. The main reason is I'm a fan of the comic, the second reason is to reserve the name in case any "Darken" fans want to join EL. Anyway, the webcomic "Darken" is top-notch stuff for an independent creator, and could easily share fans with Eternal Lands. Trust me.... there's dragons.... and swifty chicks.... and nervous cute elf guys.... and hunky bad guys.... (my favorite is watching the style of artwork change over time. The characters become more alive monthly. Follow the story from beginning to tomorrow, it's worth it.)
  17. another game

Egad! 144MB!!! What hey, do you work for teh phone company???
  18. Whats your Favourite song at the Moment?

You said it right there, Cinnamon Girl!!
  19. El Lottery

I trust ya! Only because I can't afford a ticket.... Best wishes to all suck... um, participants!! Must make a protest here against my Godlike Yankee Government and any other powers that seem to think the internet is theirs to regulate so far as gambling, pornography, and whatever lifestyle attributes we humans can come up with. The online universe is in and of itself and represents freedom in all forms of purity. We can trade, sell, gamble, ogle, talk, outrage, absorb, and all whatelse to our hearts content without regulation until the earth dies. It is up to individual content providers to do the regulation, not national governments. Thus said, I can guarantee no lootery tickets will be bought by me, and this is the last time I'll be playing your sinful EL game!!!
  20. unable to log in, anyone else? [CLOSED]

That's a wise and logical point, Anshar! I accept. Meantime I'm running my anti-malware programs just to speed up this dinosaur and just in case. One question. Does anyone think it's advisable to download the client every now and then even though it is being automatically updated by the server? As a Windows user I don't trust my OS or how it might react to the programming of people I do trust!
  21. unable to log in, anyone else? [CLOSED]

I've been boucing in and out for the last 45 minutes. No music too, I just realized.
  22. Suggestion: Horses!

Tickles me pink. Just don't make me ride in back....
  23. Paid Version

~ I can do no more than repeat the above! I may have a six year old ATI card, lousy dial-up on a shared telephone, but EL is the best thing on the internet! Six cheers!!
  24. Crafting thread

~ Thread must have an evil aura about it in EL! I hate the stuff, and I just pluck a bunch of veggies at first of the hour to sell and buy it from the shop. What bugs me is the unbalanced appropriation of thread. It takes up as much room as leather, what's it made out of? Tarzan vines?? I mean, I've got a giant spool of black cotton spun thread I can repair boot stiches, blue jeans, boat sails, etc. with; there must be a few thousand yards of it yet it's so tightly wound it's the size of my fist! You could fly kites and fish with this stuff and keep it in a jacket pocket!! ~ In other words, we have to deal with EL thread as it is because it could unbalance lots of stuff in the game. I'm not Math Man, so I won't figure the adjustments to make it realistic, or complain other than the above. Maybe it could be called something else? Catgut? Doggut? Gnomegut?
  25. I have similar situations with chasing prey, where they change direction and my 'me' goes off the wrong way no matter where I click. After decades of in-game practice, I seem to have better luck clicking to move far less frequently and not actually making the attack until I am very close. I also have to watch my FPS which often drops way below 10. This can cause sleeping snakes to move! Also lag affects movement, which noone but the W3C can control (and they are wimps.) A few tips I've learned is that an attack can be made by clicking on the name of the target as well as the avatar, and zooming in a little always helps. Be thankful! A few years ago if you clicked on the tree leaves above you, you would move to the base of the treee! Little by little the volunteer programmers are improving the game, blessed be they little fingees!!
