I agree also. Don't 'half'/'kinda' allow multi, either allow it outright or leave things as they are, imo.
-
Fear mongering.
-
Yeah... it would more be an accessory to the game, rather than an alternate game client.
-
Hell no. Any trial on the main server needs to be done without rollback at the end.
-
Ah yes Vanyel, because there's really risk of damage to this game's awesome economy that would be absolutely irreparable to the point were we'd have to roll back. Right. Stop being a drama queen.
-
Indeed. What you suggest just won't happen. Gotta test on the main server.
-
Yeah the whole thing would be a lot of work for sure... What about something simplistic using Bloodsucker's maps, where it just displays his map the whole time and NPC's, mobs and players get represented on it by some little sprites... and it could support trading, using storage, etc... even engaging mobs in combat and using spells should be ok?

I disagree completely. I don't think that the points spent on attributes being the same points that get spent on nexus' is a good thing at all. It holds back all-rounders from being able to excel in combat even when they're willing to put in the same amount of time a/d training as others on 'pure fighter' chars. If everyone could take the neg perks and have fewer nexuses on their combat char it would help to equalize things significantly. edit: anyways we can all speculate forever but until it's tested we never know how positive or negative the impact of allowing multi would be. So lets trial allowing it for a couple months and see if the fears are founded or not?

People can do this now using friends/hyperbags, it wouldn't happen with multiplay allowed for the same reason it doesn't happen now - cause you get the shit serped out of you if you do that.
-
You describe the most elaborate scenario, the most extreme case. removing anti perk from the game would help too

I admit that in the scope of stuff that's losing players, this is only a small part of it.

Although in the long run I personally don't think player-to-player interaction would reduce all that much, I ofc can't know that 100% for sure, yours and Learner's (and others) concerns could be realised... but this is nuts. This year alone we've had over 70 posts in the Bans section and you know a damn good percentage of them are multiplay related. How many more players do we need to lose to this? Lots of people want to multiplay, and they want to continue playing EL enough that they're willing to scheme and lie and what not to (try to) get away with it. Trading between characters is allowed in many other MMO's (including the infamous WoW) and they still kick along fine. We even have PvE group activities in EL now such as instance and invances, the infrastructure is in place for more player interaction than ever before, but that means nothing if there's not plenty of players.
-
@Learner You know there just might be tonnes of people out there who, despite multiplay being allowed, still aint gonna level a multitude of mixing skills on any of their chars. but w/e idc really, if i want to gear up an alt char i'll just throw RL$ at the situation till i get what i want (where do u think Revik char's drag armor, brod, tonnes of bronze swords and acc/eva and EMPs and etc. etc. came from? ). If I could supply it with some gc via Korrode's gc earning ability I would do that and not give gc sellers business, but what does it matter.
-
rly? rly So it doesn't "humm along nicely" at all. That said, the PK server's issues are MANY, multiplay doesn't have anything to do with it imo, it's other stuff that makes that server lame. edit: Exactly. I couldn't have said it better myself. If we are allowed to buy stuff from our alts, then this hurts people who invested in a lot of nexus. This mentality is EL's undoing. Greedy players not willing to consider a change becasue it will reduce the value of their prior work. 95%+ of EL's players do not take overall game balance/accessibility/etc. into account when they comment on suggestions, they only think about the impact on their own character... and Radu listens. In his view he can't afford to lose/upset a few players now to gain more later. These people deserve a good chunk of the blame for EL's deteriorating playerbase. I was listening to my brother and one of our mutual friends talking about WoW last night. These guys are long-time, high level, high gear, high achievement players. They were complaining about how Blizzard initally makes item X really hard to get, and then later makes it easier. They complained about how they spent so much time getting X and now new people can get it easier. But guess what... they still keep playing WoW, and Blizzard keep doing it, because Blizzard know that balancing the game overall will in the long run equate to more players and happy players. anyways going a bit OT now...

Even some 2D client would be cool. Think something like this: It ofc couldn't offer the playability of the 3D client, but especially due to EL having the tile/grid position system it does, i'd think it would be possible. Parsing the ELM's and having them equate to a basic 2D map i'm guessing would be a bit of a task; handling of displaying harvestable objects might be a little tricky and there's stuff like whether or not to display water or grass at a tile that in the 3D client would be part of a shoreline containing both water and grass. Maybe it'd be better to not use the ELM's (only the walkable tile data from them) and re-make EL's maps in a more compatible format. I have no Java coding experience but if a few people are willing to get on board as well, I would be willing to help with making small bitmaps and, if i'm provided an interface to do so, re-making some of EL's maps as 2D maps. We could also check if there's any free sprite/texture sets out there we can use. edit: this post should really be in the android client/widget thread i guess

Personally, I'm still of the opinion that allowing multiplay outright wouldn't have the negative impact some people think it would.
-
Yeah except not everyone's acting like spoiled children, some people are offering well considered ideas for resolving the situation.
-
Just close the client using the close button provided by your OS/WM, rather than using alt+x. On Windows and most Linux setups it's an 'x' in the top right of the window. (i.e. plz don't overcomplicate it, we just want a simple reconnect button ;p)

offering to buy a perk removal stone from el shop
korrode replied to nixxy4ever's topic in Marketplace
Lol... if there's people out there willing to give 14kgc per $1, they can feel free to ask me to buy them perk removals too. -
I'd also like to try it.
-
This is true, for me the client will otfen not offer to reconnect until a LONG time after losing connection

Devnul is almost certainly correct. (Especially considering it's mobile broadband in NZ or Australia, it's common.) When I asked Telstra to unblock outgoing connections to port 2000 on a pre-paid wireless account they actually told me they can't do it... the ridiculous nubs. As Devnul said; Call your ISP and ask them to unblock outgoing connections to TCP port 2000. Good luck. edit: You're sure you didn't get the 'Telecom Security Suite' and have it blocked in there?
