  1. PVP instances

Personally I don't like the guild thing idea. The whole point of the suggestion is to provide fast, easy access to (fairly) balanced team-based PvP. It depends what degree of GUI interface can be made for it. For a text only solution, although fairly convoluted, it could be done with a command that, once your team has been to the NPC and queued, listed all other currently queued teams with some details, and another command that allowed each team member to state their willingness to fight a particular team. Example: Team members all get in a channel and goto the NPC and "queue". All team members do the #pkinstlist command and get an output something like this: 978 Members:4 CombatRating:489 692 Members:9 CombatRating:1549 152 Members:6 CombatRating:712 239 Members:2 CombatRating:407 (The number at the start is a randomly generated group identifier (which i'll refer to as "GID" from here on)) Now each member of the team has 2 commands they can use: #pkinstaccept GID #pkinstunaccept GID (The only parameter these commands will take other than an existing GID is "all") The first command signifies that a team member is willing to fight the corresponding opponent team. The second command retracts that willingness (having this command exist is optional) When all members of 2 teams have set a willingness to fight each other, instances begins. For a GUI interface, it's the same basic info getting displayed but ofc you'd have checkboxes or something to signify willingness to fight another team. EDIT: was rejected. Not only would it eliminate a fair number of problems but I thought that was an integral part of the idea? Radu said (i'm paraphrasing here) he believes it will get used more by the existing playerbase if people can go with their friends (random queuing requires a bigger playerbase with more already-PK'ers). Personally I still think random queuing and the balance and extreme usage ease it provides would be best even for the current playerbase. Radu seems set on the initial implementation being non-random (he did say he'd consider adding random one later), and he made some proposals that do help to address some of what the random queuing was there to address... and something is better than nothing so w/e :>

You appear to have 5% packet loss to your local router/modem o,O' How is your computer connected to your DSL/Cable modem? via a cable or wireless?
  5. Privacy option on Achievements

Indeed, if someone's been a prick i like that they can't magically start over, at least, not with their current levels/items.
  6. A guide to the Advanced Instance

I've never done the Advanced instance (was past it when instances were implemented) but this looks like an excellent guide, it's clear that the author understands the combat system well. edit: and @saxum: For the tank mirror cloak is good, better than BP... but for the dps' it's pointless. Even if a mirror hit can be mirrored, which to this day i'm not 100% sure on, a BP will still easily work out better because increasing your crit-dmg chance by 10% every time you successfully hit (which should be 85-95% of the time, depending on mob having eva perk or not) is much better than having a 10% chance of mirroring something that only happens 10% of the times when you successfully hit (so <1% chance per round of the effect occurring).
  7. PvP instances

I originally posted this in another thread, but a few people suggested that it really should be made as a separate thread to not get lost amongst other content.
  8. PvP instances

Well that no rosto + no lost stuff would be interesting. I think it could attract even some non fighters (or players whose primary aim is not a/d). Event organising takes up time and resources, having an always-available automated system in place would be a nice feature for the game, and it wouldn't replace player organised PK events as they're often bigger.
  9. Exp Bonuses

Accelerating levelling to only 100 won't help all that much in regards to making PK widely competitive and filling KF, as Levelling from scratch to 100 is significantly less than half the exp required just to go from 100 to 120, let alone what it takes to go from 100 to 140+. I wouldn't say it's 'out of the blue' or has 'nothing to do with it', IMO it has a very big impact on the topic at hand.
  10. Exp Bonuses

To add a suggestion for within the current EL system: 3vs3 and 5vs5 PvP instances. 10 level gaps. When you die you leave the instance but do not drop stuff and do not lose a rosto. When all members of one team have died (and are thus out of the instance) the other team is the winner and receives some small-ish reward. Most important part: Random team queuing. (This means 5 people (or 2 for that matter) who're all on chars custom built for the PvP instancing can not group up and always be on the same team together) This would help PvP in EL heaps. People on very high level chars will have a very hard time ending up with 10 people all queued for the 2 teams needed in the 5vs5 instance, but sometimes there could be 6 people queued for 3vs3 and they can always make an alt to do them. 3vs3 really is too low, 5vs5 and 10vs10 would be better, but the playerbase is too small atm. EDIT: in regards to the 'small-ish' reward for the winning team, i actually think a/d exp would be a good reward, to help a little with ensuring people don't 'camp' particular level instances too long.
  11. Exp Bonuses

EL intentionally has an extremely long character development cycle (Radu said ~10 years iirc). Of the ways EL could provide a gaming experience along the lines of the widely attractive shorter character development cycles seen in more popular MMO's, this isn't the best way to do it. (I'm not completely against the idea, i'm just saying that there's better ways it's goals could be achieved.) Shutting down the failed PK server and starting a new 2nd server with a very different set of modifications to original EL would be the best way to do it, IMO.

unit great i pvp haze for like 2 weeks in my life so we best buds
  13. If the EL client isn't getting to the stage where it creates ~/.elc/main/el.ini, then you want to look for el.ini where the system-wide games files are stored. I don't run Ubuntu so cannot double check exactly where that is, but it's probably /usr/share/eternallands/... or something similar, definitely in /usr/ somewhere ;p
  14. Jomix - repeated begger

man calm down, it was just a great forum post.
  15. Jomix - repeated begger

As my earlier jovial post may have indicated, neither do I.
  16. EL Crashing On Startup

Wherever the EL data is stored, you will find a file called el.ini, in there is an option that probably currently is set as follows: #poor_man= 0 Try changing it to 1 and then start the client. Also, depending on how far through the startup process the client is getting, it may have created your per-user config files in ~/.elc, if ~/.elc/main/el.ini exists, change the setting in there also. If that doesn't help, if you run EL from a terminal what output is given when it crashes?
  17. Lost a few hours of my EL life

i want my exp, gc and bones back, WITH INTEREST!
  18. Jomix - repeated begger

  19. Cant Create character

What video card/chip do you have?
  20. EL Crashing On Startup

At what point exactly does it crash? Do you get to the login screen where you can go into the options before it crashes?
  21. Arch Segmentation fault

I don't think there was ever talk about that. There was only some talk about making it REQUIRE 2.0 That's what I figured. @Aislinn 173xx drivers for Xorg 1.10 just became available... i think last time the 96xx drivers were out a day or 2 after the 173xx ones... but I'm guessing you've ordered a new card by now and it's all irrelevant. :>
  22. Korrode's Combat Guides

"need", no. "preferable", yes. On Yeti and LOrc taking vit above 20 is important primarily for decreasing armour breakages, and it will also reduce your resources used per exp gained. Trice hits so hard that vit needs to be at like 40+ before the system where it reduces breakages kicks in.
  23. Arch Segmentation fault

I know there's all this talk at the minute about new client features and which OpenGL version everyone's cards support, but realistically, it wouldn't be in EL's best interests to become inoperable on OpenGL 2...
  24. Horray for Penguins!

Here is a definitely random list of linux commands: updatedb locate talk date cd strip look touch finger unzip uptime gawk head emerge --oneshot condom mount fsck gasp more yes yes yes more umount emerge -C condom make clean sleep A screenshot I took ages ago, as funny today as it was originally: Not Linux specifically, but good: More later when I get home :>
  25. Arch Segmentation fault

New Quadro's never offer the best value VS gaming performance, and it's rare even when buying 2nd hand... however at $10 that is a good deal, just make sure they're not trying to sting you with big postage charges. If the postage is any more than like $15 you could get something better 2nd hand off eBay for the same total cost.
