It's no less than what we keep in Korea or Kosovo. Countries that the war ended in years ago, but we keep our presence there just in case. I mean hell, one of our oldest foreign bases is in Italy... how do you explain why we still have troops there? Plus even if we kept a brigade here, we would no longer engage in active combat operations. Which means the insurgency would start turning back to the iraqi govt for military jobs as Al Qaeda would have nothing to pay them for anymore.

I mean bush set the bar really high on being a terrible president. Personally I am 100% for the patriot act, and while I dont not condone the war, a lot of that funding goes to the wounded veterans and their families, as well as army morale and welfare programs. Not all the war funding is spent on destruction. You would not believe how many billions of dollars are being spent on construction projects. Like right now at this very moment I am at a water treatment facility that we are repairing. While I DO believe we could use this money to help our own problems at home, do NOT be under the perception that every dollar spent on this war is dropping a bomb.

Ive never been a very strong debate artist, but I think that Obama is a great candidate. Just like EVERY human on this planet he does have some shortcomings, but personally I believe he is the greatest candidate ive seen in my lifetime. (granted my lifetime just barely touches Bush SR.) I know election promises are about as trustworthy as a used condom salesman, but there are certain promises that he will have to keep, and those just happen to be the ones important to me.

Not everyone can register on the forums, and there are many who wont do so because its not a simplistic proccess. Therefore when opinions are asked or polls taken you are getting maybe 15-20% of the games population to vote on your issue or voice their opinion. It's pretty common for independent MMORPG developers to hold open forums and put polls directly on the front page. I understand your reasoning for doing forum registration the way you did, but why not have public polls that require no forum registration at all? I think more people would participate and it would keep people coming back to the homepage, which would make it much more relevant than it currently is. With this increasred traffic you could make use of a news roster as well as make the shop more accessible. It just makes the game seem more alive and im positive it would attract some newer players just when they see the homepage. I see your point to a certain extent. However more income for Ent, means more stuff will get done to improve the game. I don't see any possible negativity in this.

When I return I'd like to get more involved with the game specifically id like to attribute to the programming aspects of the game, in particular id like to see a new sound engine (something more along the lines of ambient music progression seen in other mmos, so that music can transition seamlessly). What language is the game built on? I have worked with PERL and Ruby, and its very easy for me to buy bootleg compilers from the vendors here so all I need is a nudge in the right direction. I know its unrealistic that I could start writing something right away, but I have 9 months left to sit and learn, and I literally have nothing else to do with my free time. So anyways babbling aside, what language do I need to learn and what type of programs am I going to need to get started? Respectfully Rasberrybeard

Thanks Piper, and thats because ill still be deployed until then. Also this is a multiplatform compiler which still doesnt quite answer my question about which language I ought to focus on... unless im daft and missing something.

I only read a few posts up but I have some stuff to say. Seeing as how the presedential election directly affects me. (See definition of Commander In Chief) I really have to vote based on one issue; which candidate wants to end the war and bring me and my friends home. So far Obama is the only candidate who has proposed a viable resolution, therfore he gets my vote. Normally I would vote Republican, but McCain is looking to drag out the conflict to try and salvage a U.S. friendly govt out of Iraq. If he spent more than 5 minutes here he would know thats highly unlikely to ever happen.
