  1. Meep is recruiting

Good luck to Meep from all of us at TKN
  2. Programing the first EL client

My intro to coding was handwriting 80col cobol pads which were then submitted to data input dept to convert to punched card. The 'batch' would be run during the night on a mainframe, so i'd have to wait till until next morning and get the output delivered to my office on huge perforated paper sheets. Not sure how many Scandanavian pine forests were sacrificed before all the bugs and typos's were chased out of the average 'run', but with the thickness of most outputs measuring a good few inches, I'm guessing quite a few. In those days, patience, sharp pencils and many prayers to the computer goddess, paid dividends lol. I fondly remember declaring variables with names like TOM, DICK and HARRY, hard coding '19' into date functions, and using GOTO without the slightest sense of shame. The only REM in usually said 'THIS DOES NOT WORK' (although the language was sometimes a little more graphic). Happy days lol
  3. For Gardening and Farming Tips

We used to have a goat (a toggenberg). She wasn't the finest milker (she'd usually end up sticking her hoof in the milking bucket lol). Luckily she was a very relaxed goat, as togs have quite big horns. I quite like goats milk, but the milking is kind of an art, and sadly quite lacking in an area which is mainly into hill farmed sheep. Because Wales is very very wet, combined with the cold of being high up on a mountain, its not ideal for goats. Also, where the land is grazed by sheep, the foot diseases seem to transfer very easily to goats. Unusually, alpacca's seem to do very well and a neighbor of mine has a few. Here's a piccy of their flock, plus the general area.
  4. For Gardening and Farming Tips

Really enjoyed looking at the sites. Lots of useful information. I also have a small farm with orchards, soft fruit, vegetable garden and around 50 sheep (we've just finished lambing so i've nearly double my usual flock lol). The farmhouse itself is very old (over 400 years in some parts) and is located high up in a remote part of the welsh mountains. It's got about 25 acres of enclosed land made up of mainly rough pasture, ancient oak woods and a river. However, it has 'hill-rights' permitting the grazing of stock on the local mountains (which is what most of the neighboring farmers are mainly engaged in). I'd love to spend more time there, but i'm really just a weekend farmer. During the week, one of our neighbors kindly takes care of the sheep, but I still do the vegetable and fruit gardens. Because the farm is up so high, the growing season is fairly short (about 6 months at tops). We therefore have to be fairly selective in what we grow. Even so, we are pretty much self sufficient in vegetables for most of the year. Plus, being in such a wild and remote area, there's also an abundance of wild food in the form of blackberries, raspberries, blackthorn slows, dog rose hips, winberries, mushrooms and all kinds of wild fungus. Your tips on storage and cooking were very interesting, as its a general issue for anyone who grows their own vegetables and fruit. Recipes for pickles and preserves are always very welcome. Would love to see you post piccies of your farm, stock and crops if you have the time.
  5. ELChat2

Superb idea, particularly for mobile devices. Ability to pipe text2speech would be useful.
  6. Sponsoring Instances

    And then you woke up
  7. Sponsoring Instances

I think the problem is threefold. One, your voting options are too limited. Second, they are worded in a way that sounds mean and you are assuming people are thinking as you worded it. Third, most "pure" fighters want to bypass the rest of the game to JUST fight and that tends to annoy everyone else. It also is the major reason for character buying and gc buying for rl money, which is another massively large bone of contention in EL. Now that said, most people here already do help each other. But the idea of "sponsoring" a fighter is kind of like saying "Here, give me stuff and pay for me to have a good time because my time is more valuable than yours to waste it earning what I need in other ways, even though that is the way the game was intended to be played.", as has already been noted. I think another problem is, there have been way too many instances of scams both ingame stuff and real life money by "fighters" lately, and it is pretty risky to trust these days. People will help their friends and people they KNOW they can trust already. But fighters are getting a bad name these days because of the actions of some of them. Who is going to guarantee that some random fighter is going to honor his end of the bargain after he gets the stuff in the first place from the sponsor? Hmmm, some interesting and very relevant points raised in this post. Plenty of opportunity for cheap shots, but the issue of 'trust' raised by Aislinn goes well beyond simple 'mixer vs fighter'. The concept of 'trust' is central to all human interaction. Without it, any structure resolves to just individual desire. Mixers could be described as embodying much of human virtue, ie hard work, cooperation, subrogation of personal objectives in favor of a common goal. Thats not to say that fighters are the polar opposite. Just depends on whether they fight for something more than just themselves. That said, we all fight, just not all of us with swords.
  8. YARR bagjumpers

If a member of an honorable guild bj's, then I (as GM of an honorable guild) expect the other GM to compensate and apologise for that incident. I don't expect the other GM to kick the person out, and certainly don't believe that I have any right to dictate or influence sanctions against that person. The exception to the above would be a dishonorable guild. In such circumstances, the GM or leadership carry little or no credibility, so I would take action in banning the whole guild, as well as each person individually (in case they stray). An exception might be say as in *EL* guild, where the guild is dishonorable but where the membership clearly do not support the activities of the leadership. In that case, I might ban just the leadership until such times as the guild forced them to leave.
  9. Legit BJer

Hardly a bastard. Just inconsistent and weak really.
  10. Sponsoring Instances

Brilliant idea. Not quite sure who runs *el* guild nowadays (it used to be Inferno), but great to see that a smaller guild wants to take the lead and 'put their money where their mouth is' (as opposed to just 'shooting it off') Btw, is anti-tank insurance included in any donations, or must we pay extra to have that assurance ? Edit: To improve aerodynamics, payload and targeting accuracy.
  11. **** guild

    Good luck from TKN, Orick.
  12. The Circle Guild ~o~

Gratz to you guys from everyone at TKN
  13. Legit BJer

Seems strange that Vallath got kicked from *EL* guild on the off-chance he might be a scammer, whereas an alleged bag-jumper is apparently still a member.
  14. The Great Split

Were you referring to this by chance ? Not quite sure what he's making all the fuss about, or why you think it's relevant to the topic under discussion. Oh well, here's hoping the explanation doesn't suck quite so badly as your amusing attempts to play the 'forum troll'.
  15. The Great Split

With a reputation for trolling, maybe it would pay if sometimes you didn't make it quite so obvious.
  16. The Great Split

Not sure how fanning the flames helps in any way, especially when you've just managed to set fire to your own skirt. Also, the next time you contribute, please try and avoid turning your posts into a rerun of 'ground-hog day' by trimming the acres of completely irrelevant quotes. Something witty or interesting would ofc be an unexpected bonus.
  17. The Great Split

So very difficult to choose who's bubble to burst first here. Dubro appears on our 'Beware List' as someone who our guildies are recommended to avoid, whether buying, selling, harving,or on those very few occasions when its necessary to visit a pk zone. The reasons are many and various and prolly no different from the reasons other guilds advise their members likewise. Whilst thats unlikely to change any time soon, I feel a whole lot better about him being in a guild where there's just a chance that some slightly higher moral standards might rub off. Being in a decent guild means he now has something to lose if he misbehaves. It also means that, if problems arise, there's a greater assurance that his guild will act as a positive influence. If that includes an undertaking to compensate any future victim whilst he remains in the guild, then i'm very much in favour. Accepting Dubro as a member won't make Orick's guild any less honorable and, provided they are seen to be responsible in the way in which they deal with any future incidents that may arise, I think it is very much to their credit that they are brave enough to take the chance. As for 'honor' i'd agree with the observation of the previous commentator, ie that the term seems somewhat overused. Might be preferable if those who's own recent actions don't bear scrutiny tried practicing it a little more, and preaching a little less.
  18. Posting Tags / Nothing to hide.

TKN guild color is deep purple, with our allies tagged in green. We're a peaceful and generally friendly guild that respect other players (unless there's a good reason why not). Because we're not part of the pk scene, we don't have any enemies as such, so we use red tag to indicate any players/chars who pose a risk to our members. We generally assume that if one player in a guild poses a risk, its fair to expect that to reflect the culture and attitude of the guild as a whole. Hence, we'll tag a whole guild based on one members behavior. The kind of stuff we tag for is the usual bag-jumping, scamming, luring or those that are just plain unpleasant. We are more than happy to to publish our tags, along with individual names and reasons. We're proud to be allies of Tokie's guild (#nu) and are happy to support their initiative in this matter. We see any move to coordinate and organise like-minded guilds against some of the more antisocial elements in EL as a mutually beneficial.
  19. Templar Knights

I'd rather not :> Why Inferno! Fancy finding you trolling this thread lol. Just a small suggestion but, provided you're not concerned about your poor little epeen being shortened any more than already happened under the Fate thread, wouldn't it be a fun thing for you to go create your very own topic on the matter of Caliphear's silly feud against TKN. Might save you the effort of hijacking every other topic just to suck-up to her. btw PhysX, gratz and well done on starting a TKN guild on the the PK server.
  20. Vallath - Fate

How generous that, having worked so hard to make yourself look a complete and utter dumb-ass, you then try and give all the credit to me. As for trolls, take my advice and try not to feed them. Oh dear, did your little goldfish sized brain not remember telling us all you never believed he was a bagjumper? Or how about your earlier admission to being too hasty? Hope the light grilling may improve its texture and make the many small bones easier to remove. If not, please send back to the kitchen where chef will be only too pleased to cook it a little longer. That's two seriously's which, without wishing to seem unduly unkind, seems just a tad more than you deserve to be taken.
  21. Vallath - Fate

lol @ themuntdregger Lemon - A small, egg-shaped, edible citrus fruit with a yellow rind and a juicy, sour pulp. Alternatively, may informally refer to something substandard, useless, worthless (as would seem appropriate in your case).
  22. Vallath - Fate

  23. Vallath - Fate

Would that be the hole you're digging for yourself, or the one in which you're slowly burying your guilds reputation? I can hardly claim to compete with such undisputed masters of the four letter sexual expletive, and will freely admit to be completely outclassed by their talent for gratutious obscenity. However, doubt whether anyone without the same prediliction for morons will hold them in quite the same esteem as you appear to. Would you be referring to the laptop that the whole guild gave you when you were ill and feeling down? Don't remember anyone ever claimed any special credit for that, certainly not me! Still, i'm sure everyone will be glad to know how much you valued their concern. Not quite sure what the benefits of 'sucking up' might have been? Maybe you could ask Inferno to entertain us with his first hand experience? Btw, the bot says 'Welcome Lady Caliphear', though I'm sure it'll break her heart to know you've got her on ignore. As for the reason why you have me on ignore, i'm assuming thats so you can make smart-ass comments in local without fear of getting back what you richly deserve? If the kitchen got a little too hot, maybe you should bear that in mind next time you decide to give us all a masterclass on the perils of little girls who can't resist playing with matches. In the meantime, go have a nice lie down in that big hole you were digging.
  24. Vallath - Fate

Not quite as badly as when the guild master knowingly kicks an innocent person. Not wishing to seem unduly unkind, but i'd sooner be personal to a 'wet fish'. Why not read your GM's "sympathetic and helpful" contribution to the nicktehbrick thread (see 'Bans' section) and ask him the same question.
  25. Vallath - Fate

The point you make, ie (what is fair for one may not be fair for everyone), is true enough. However, your justification for making an example out of Vallath seems to owe far less to any concern of fairness towards your guild than it does your own fear of being seen as an 'arse'. Under the circumstances, its difficult to miss the irony of your present position. Relax Inferno. I'm quite sure I could have found better opportunities to 'put you in your place' before now. So please lets leave all the irrelevant ancient history and fanciful paranoia where it rightfully belongs, and try to keep things reasonably on-topic.
