I like it. 2 of the other games I play have those little surprises and after 5 consecutive days, I get something a bit more valuable. It is especially nice when you are a new player logging in. Works for me. If people dont like it, give them the option to turn it off.

Posted 25 June 2010 - 06:21 AM i've played this game for 2 weeks now. I would like to share my views on it, now that I still remember how it feels to be a new player. Although people are very willing to answer my questions, I still have no clue how to raise levels. I know 2 players only so far and it is nice to say 'hi'when I see them. Other than that, it is still an alone game for me.I still feel kinda lost in this game. I think I am doing pretty good in this game; my oa is 36 . I have 1k money. Overall I think one needs quite some patience to get started in this game. I wonder if other new players have that patience. I know I do, because this game is worth my time. ------------------------- 2 Years ago I wrote a long post including the above. Since then, so much has changed. I do know how to raise levels; I am proud to say I am in the top 50 for engineering and my oa is now 135. I certainly have more than 1k gc. It is not an 'alone' game for me any more. How much longer is a player allowed to offend a moderator?

I use a haidir pass when I have to kill something that I consider too difficult for me. Yes, I can always get help from my guildies, but still I prefer to use a pass when I feel I cannot kill alone. Im very glad that the haidir pass exists, it gives me more freedom to do what I like. mak

Today, I was supervising my students who were doing a test. Soon after they started I saw one of the students get something from his pocket. I assumed it was a cheat sheet, so I went to him and ordered him to hand it over to me. Yep, it definitely was a cheat sheet, so I told the student to leave the classroom and also told him he failed the test. The student got mad at me cause he had not used the note and I knew that (which was true), so all I should have done is take the cheat sheet and let him finish his test. So the question is: should you have let him finish the test and grade him. After all, I knew he had not used the cheat sheet. or would you have told him to leave the classroom, like I did. or would you have solved it differently. My students are males between 16-21.This student is 17.Consequenses of failing the test can be severe.

Update. At our school, unlike most schools in my country, a school year is divided into 2 semesters and you advance to a higher class twice a year. So today we had meetings to discuss who will advance to the next semester and who will do the same semester once more. In general the rule is : no grades under 3 ( we grade from 1 to 10); if the results of 1 or 2 tests are graded below 3, you get a final chance to do those tests again next week and if you have 3 or more tests graded below 3 you failed the whole semester. Each test is scheduled for 2 dates btw. and you can choose which day (or both days) you wish to take that test, but if you are caught cheating, you are not allowed to take a test again anyway. The student had 3 tests graded below 3 (one of which was my test which I graded 1 for cheating), so he was not given the opportunity to better himself next week and failed the semester.

I have played El for 6 months now and it is still my top game. When i started I had no idea what levels you can reach after some months. I found it disencouraging to notice that people leveled way faster than I did, but most of them had reset, so they were more experienced and had things in their storage which helped a lot. I could not find posts about what people can reach in the beginning of their EL life, so I like to post an example of what is possible. Not to brag, just to give an example for other newer players. 6 Months of EL playing is considered a short time so I consider myself an advanced beginner. I had no prior knowledge of this game, did not know any one who played the game and did it all by myself However , I did receive an enormous amount of information from my two favorite mods and from players. I am glad I met some very nice people that dont mind answering my questions.The wiki and other sites I use have tons of informations, but sometimes because of that , it is hard to find the answer. For me , the game playing is more important than the levels, but of course if you have a decent level in a skill, more game oportunities open up. Because I could not decide which skill to specialise in AND because I wanted to be self sufficient AND because I am not good at doing the same thing for hours, I leveled a lot of skills. a/d 70, har 68,alc 64. mag 28, pot 39, man 28, cra 34, eng 24. Other skill levels are not worth mentioning yet. o/a is now 90 good luck to you, new players. You can probably get way higher than me. Dont give up, although this game can be very frustrating in the beginning.

It has been 3 months now since I started playing this game and that means I am no longer a newbie now (I think). However I still like to use the newbie channel cause I always get a response there that helps me. The newbie channel is the best channel to keep new players in the game. I would very much like to see it used in a different way than it is used now, but I can also see the problems. Now it is used for questions-answers only. What I would have liked is a newbie channel where it is possible to interact a bit. For example, I felt quite good when I killed my first gargoyle and it would have been nice to share it. People share things on channel 6 when they say: I reached level so-and-so and others say gratz. I wonder what the reaction would be on channel 6 when every newbie told the readers he killed his first beaver. I remember one conversation with 2 other new players about rabbits and that was fun until one player told us to stop misusing the newbie channel and I went back to my silent mode. I honestly believe that giving new players a place to talk about newbie-things would help people stay ingame. They wont stay/talk/bother that channel for long cause they themselves dont want to hear about other players killing their first skunk after a while and they will move on to talking to their friends/guildmates. I think that the only active EL chat channel is channel 6, but it seems to me it is more for PK players. What channel do the people use who talk about all the other skills? I guess I dont want to be a PK player; a lot of disputes start while PKing. I still am not part of a guild. Of course that is my choice. The downside is that I still feel I am not really a part of the game; I hardly talk to people ( I do bother Pyewacket a lot with my questions, poor him). For me the advantage is that I dont feel obliged to do anything I dont feel up to and I do not get involved in any possible guild drama. So far I have not needed other people cause I am working on a lot of different skills to be self sufficient. The best thing about this game for me is that I can do different things. When I am tired, I just mule and other days I mix and fight and explore the maps and its caves. I am proud of how far I already got into this game. att/def/har/alc all around 50, mag/pot/man/cra between 20 and 30. There are still a lot of things I dont know one bit about. Instances are one of them, but all in due time. It is nice to know that I can play this game for some time to come without getting bored. Yep, I like it here.

I am a teacher and , of course, my students do everything they can to lead me in the wrong direction. Last week the new school year started and already one of my new students tried to be smarter than me (which they are 80% of the time). Sometimes I get unexpected help. One of my students phoned in sick. The same day he discovered that he was required to hand me a note , written by his parents to confirm his illness. Too young or too innocent to figure out a good excuse, he posted his dilemma on a forum on the internet and asked for help. (for Dutch readers, this is what he posted. http://forum.fok.nl/topic/1521640 ) The moderator of that forum helped. He mailed the administrator of my school telling him the name of the student and showing him the post. The administrator mailed me cause I am the kid's mentor. When I talked to the kid, I pretended to be astonished by his behaviour, but I had to laugh. The kid is now waiting for his punishment. I told him I had to think about it. My students are 99% boys between 16-20 at a school for vacational training. They are studying ICT . I love my job.

This game is perfect for me. I was addicted when I started it 7 weeks ago. I have had a lot of advice and encouragement from other players which made me feel welcome. However, there is one side of being a new player in this game that makes you feel less welcomed. Some people think that new players (especially the ones without a guild) are either alts or bagjumpers. I have been asked a lot of times who I really was. First I thought they were interested in me, but nope. I see people pick up the bags they are sitting on when new players come sit next to them. I overheard some conversations, so I fully understand that there are people who do the bagjumping as a living here, but please, dont think that all new players are here to scam. Yesterday I was mixing and went afk. When I got back, I had a message from some one who wanted me to move away. I went to another storage (now I know he only meant me to move away from him, so I would not be a thread), but I did not understand what I did wrong, so I asked. In the end the answer I got from the guy was: [PM from .....................: no not you..but things have been happening to send red flags up so plz dont feel bad K?] I am perfectly able to earn my own money (2 more books to read and I can make my own harvester medallion by making all the ingredients myself) I am proud of what I have accomplished, I dont need to scam or bagjump (a word I had never heard of before)and I am sure there are more new players like me. Lets not be too suspicious. There are new players out there who just love this game.

I am writing this post not to brag on what I can do or moan about what I cannot do, but to show how far you can get in this game after only 4 weeks Some things I can harvest and/or make. Gold, silver, iron ores and bars. sulphur , coal, quarts, ruby, emerald, sapphire and gypsum. I can make mortar and pestle, rings, different kinds of easy armor and some potions. I can kill skeletons. For the gypsum , i went to irrilion. It took me quite some time to find out where to harvest it. The rubies I found in a cave where I walked past them 3 times before I realised what I saw. my alc level is 30, man = 15 and cra =17. I have not had time to focus much on fighting, but I figure I first need to find ways to make money, then spend it on armor. Of course, that is my choice. In short, just give yourself some weeks. It does get easier (even the critter killing although I sometimes still frantically click my mouse to finally target them) ----- Some thoughts I am getting better at not forgetting to bring something. Walking all the way to a store and realising I forgot my money or trying to harvest and not bring gloves/pickaxe is annoying. I know now that fluffy rabbits only look cute. The sunrise and sunsets are beautiful. So well done. I try not to want to understand everything. I see people say things like: "I've been using sop and mol". No clue. I am still not a member of a guild, that is my choice. I need to be sure what I want. Luckily there is always some one to answer my questions in the newbie channel. A big thank you to chr0nik and Maxine and others for that. That channel is very important. I can look up a lot of things in the help, but just asking and getting the one answer you need at that time is nice, so I can keep focussing on what I do. I know that skunks can kill me too. I was killing one and another player ( I had not noticed he was killing in the area too) told me to go away. I walked away, but noticed something was hitting me. I thought the other player was mad at me and was on some sort of stealth mode to follow and kill me. Now I know it was poison. I wonder if I ever want to look like a mule. I am sure it is efficient, but hm.....

gratz peach. As I can see, you are an excellent player and apparantly you understand the money making and the levelling much faster than I do. Sadly , you did not get the point of why I posted.
