  5. The RPing in MMORPGs

I voted somewhat important, but with more quests and more history they will quickly become very important. I agree with Acelon that it is OK the new ones don’t all have a “purpose” when they come online. I also like Riviere idea of some NPCs talking to you once you’ve reached a certain level. The NPC should tell you when they will talk to you (e.g. I have a story to tell, but not until you can you are level X in crating). Frankly, I pretty much agree with all the positive/constructive comments posted here. Is there, or will there be, a list of the NPCs on a map so one could be sure they have flound/talked to all of them? Thank you, Entropy and everyone else who helped put the latest quests together. And to those who helped me work my way through them.
  6. Why have people become so unfriendly in EL ?

If Silvatica can't expect to get information about an invasion on the Invasion/Lenny channel, I am at a lost where s/he should ask about that information... Ask on General Chat and they send you to channel 6.... @Aislinn, I could not agree with you more. As far as folks becoming unfriendly, I don't know if that is the case or I'm just noticing more. Either way, it seems to me that folks are bit more on edge of late. EvanMarie
  7. Quest time!

I recently completed this latest quest, with help from friends, and very much enjoyed it! With respect to starting the quests, maybe something in the encyclopedia that states the quest exists and a couple of hints where to start. Thanks again for the quest, EvanMarie
  8. Important notice for young people

Seeing as how I was not given a copy of the job description for being an earthling, I’m not exactly sure what my job is.....what I do know is that communities are often healthier and happier when citizens go a bit beyond their “job descriptions” with respect to watching each other’s backs. Case in point, it is not our JOB as an EL citizen to return a death bag, but I think we can generally agree that EL is a nicer place because we do, because we watch each other’s backs. If someone has information that can help keep me safe (e.g., you are about to enter a PK map, don’t give out your real name to folks on line, etc), I’d be happy to get it. I don’t see the harm in reminding everybody, once again, to be cautious. EvanMarie in EL
  9. New special day, will you use it?

I haven't used any schools yet, but this would motivate me to use them. EvanMarie in EL
  10. Guess the player name!

nice try, but no. here's another picture and a hint...the name of the player can be figured out with any one of the pictures. The character's name is in the "title" of each picture. http://www.videodetective.com/photos/001/000078_15.jpg EvanMarie
  11. Is taking death bags considered "dispute'ish"?

I agree, mostly....I post on general and newbie help channels regardless of the contents and PM if I know whose it is. Haven't found a db w/ high level swag, but would spend much less energy trying to return it than I would the db of an apparently newer player.

  14. I am in general agreement with bkc56 (posts # 34, 37 and 39), neverman and conovar. These are not mutually exclusive ideas. The way I see it a group of experienced players/mods/administrators, preferably those who read the invasion channel and forums regularly, serve as advisors to radu. How these advisors would be selected is admittedly a sticking point. The simplest way would be for radu to contact people he knows and trusts to see if they’d be interested in advising him on changes to features or skills they have a particular interest and expertise. This has the problem of radu only choosing people who will agree with him – radu, this is not a slam on you, just an acknowledgment that you are as human as the rest of us. Alternatively, the advisors could be selected/elected by the players but this would quickly dissolve into a nightmare…. campaigns, debates, blah, blah, blah…… NOTE: Before the flaming starts, please remember that I am simply presenting one possible solution to an apparent real problem within the EL community and, of course the details aren’t worked out yet....how long do you want this post to be? Additionally, the numbers presented here are arbitrary, not set in stone! radu could give us a list of 30 or so names of players/mods/administrators he feels he can work with and he trusts to advise him on game modifications as well as how these changes would be presented to players (a poll, an edict, a surprising new update, etc) Each of the 30 write a short (yes, I do mean a word limit) EL bio, the direction(s) they would like to see EL grow, how or if they would consult with players and bring players ideas and concerns to radu (would they be advocates as robotbob suggested or advise independent of player input/concerns), etc. The players would then “vote” for 10 people they would like to advise radu. I think there should also be an option for “None of the Above” which could be selected for any or all of the 10 “votes” a given player casts so radu could get an idea of how amenable the voting players are to his suggested advisors. The top 10 “vote getters” become the advisors. Including the caveat that each must receive a certain percentage of the total votes is probably too cumbersome to accommodate. The voting could be open for a week so virtually all currently active players would have a chance to vote and know when voting will end; maybe gossip could remind people every time they log on that week that they can register for a forums account and vote. I know radu has the final say on what happens and merely present this compromise as a possible way to satisfy both him and players who what more input in future game changes. Thanks for reading, EvanMarie in EL
  15. I like doing quests and of course wish there were more. I'm pretty much restricted to god quests now and it will be a long time before I have the gc or skill level to buy/make the next "gift to the god." Maybe additional quests could be restricted to specific OA or skill level, this way one could work their way up to the next quest. This would also give folks defined goals as they explore all EL has to offer. Sometimes I like to just wonder around and would enjoy that more if it was productive with respect to getting something ingame (xp, gc or some item.) I have no problem with folks getting some advantage by completing a quest (a discount on sand paper would be nice.) I am trying to level in all skills and miss out on the great swag dropped by high level mobs - that's my choice, I'm not complaining. If someone chooses to not do a quest, so be it, they don't get the great swag from completing it. This is a bit off-topic, but as far as radu getting real money....how about charging real money for some quests? Paying real money for ingame things is a little weird to me, but I'm changing my mind on this matter. As it is, I don't want some nifty sword, so I don't buy from the shop. However, I would buy "the opportunity to complete some quest" or some item needed to complete it. Granted, I would need to have some idea of what the payoff would be before deciding to purchase it.
  16. crafting quest

I didn't see this an any of the forums and apologize in advance if I missed it. My suggestion is that upon completion of the crafting quest one be able to buy gem sanding paper at a discount. This would be in keeping with the discounts given for completing some of the other quests. Thanks for all the work you folks do keeping EL fun!
