  1. no to regulation

  2. Limit the numbers of players joining the guild

I'm also voting no for the reasons stated. Some players don't play as often as others, so there may be some guilds who find themselves with only 2-3 players on at a time. Other guilds will simply ally with other guilds to compensate or create branches of themselves. Also we have to consider how many players have alts and whether or not the alts will join the guild. If each person has one alt, that means only seven people in the guild (assuming both characters are in the same guild). This will add extra problems if those people go missing.
  3. Guilds

Oh, I like that! Sort of a Boondock Saints guild.
  4. Do you like PKing?

I'm SyAnide. You PKed me in DP earlier today. That makes me involved. Edit: PS- And I'm not bitching about it. It's possible you didn't know who I was, but you aren't exactly running around making friends.
  5. Do you like PKing?

\o/ Piper! How many of us have you PKed just this afternoon, Quizz? How many of us went and bitched about it on channel? If you don't like PK, stay off the server.
  6. Christmas Event

I've also played this in real life, but #1 was the best one to be because once it was all over, they got their pick after #10. That ensures that every player had the opportunity to trade with at least one person. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to participate because of RL holiday festivities, but this looks like great fun! Hopefully I can sneak away and join in for a little.
  7. Macintosh OS X client 1.5.0 bugs thread

That kept happening to me, so I copied the what I needed from the open terminal, then opened a new shell and pasted it in there and added the pk. That worked. Thank you Florian!
  8. PK server started!

For me beaming as always been of strategic value (and nothing to do with getting away from PKers). Perhaps we could allow beaming on C1 but not C2? This would make C2 more dangerous than C1. This would also make getting back from C2 a bit harder (use a ring, or take the boat back). (Just throwing ideas out, don't PK me over it) Another idea would be to allow beaming until a certain level like the tutorial heals.
  9. Attributes limit

I think it's a great idea. Limiting attributes to 50 will change some of the ways people think about pp's and encourage the broadening of characters with other attributes, nexuses, and perks. The uber-pker could end up being the destruction of the PK server if everyone knows there are a couple dominant players whose stats will always give them the great advantage. Who will want to join in a year or so?This solution makes creativity and new strategy the great advantage. Limiting attributes encourages players to rethink their strategy and individualize how they rule and conquer instead of everyone following the same basic strategy prescribed over and over. This also makes taking negative perks really negative since once a character has maxed their attributes, they are are stuck with this neg impetuously taken early on.
  10. NEW CEL Site Launch

I love the changes! It's a beautiful site and I find the menus to be very user friendly. I particularly like the magic spells page and how easy it is to see which sigils are needed quickly. Excellent job!
  11. Guess the movie

I <3 Christian Bale! Your turn.
  12. Macintosh OS X client 1.5.0 bugs thread

On the day of the update, I downloaded the first Intel version and have been playing on that with very occasional crashes, but no real problems. Today I am trying to download everything to put on CD to mail to poor Peino on dial-up. So I downloaded the version at the top of this thread and went ahead and opened it just to check. It let me log on, but then the screen was all funky (bluish black with strips of screen) whenever I tried to look around. Is this the latest working version, or am I missing something? I'm not so worried about fixing this for myself since I can keep playing on my original download (although I think I'm missing a couple things), but I'd like to know if I'm downloading the right version for Peino and if this is a bug that he is going to have to download additional fixes for. If so, I'd like to go ahead and download those now and add them to the CD I'm mailing him. My info: iMac 4.1 Mac OSx version 10.4.11 2GHz Intel Core Duo
  13. Guess the movie

This one is easy if you were a teenage girl in the 90's (or had sisters). It's also the movie that introduced me to the sexiest man alive.
  14. There are a lot of complaints about the NDD invasions, but I have to wonder how many are from people who just don't think there's a place for them in the invasions. This isn't true. Everyone, from the top players to the brand new players are needed, and wanted, during invasions. My favorite aspect of the NDD invasions (the goal oriented ones like Idalaloran) is the community and helpfulness of everyone who participates. I am not a fighter, but I've never felt useless. I know there are a lot of threads about whether or not people like them, when they should be, and so on, but I wanted to start a thread where we can discuss strategy and demonstrate how every person is useful (and I'm not just talking about cannon fodder here!). In order of lowest level player to more advanced, here are some necessary people during an invasion: 1. Bait (sounds boring, but it's not) In Ida, if you can find a spot between a house and a wall, you can collect a nice group of creatures together (one person can collect 20+). This limits the number of stray monsters and allows fighters to find them easily, as well as pick off a smaller number at a time. Just make sure you are between a house and the wall. On this topic, I've seen a few lone fighters come too close to one of these groups and get squished by a horde of creatures. Instead of trying to get their attention, let the bait move one step in either direction and release 1-3 creatures on the end. Oh, and it's not boring. The local chat can get pretty lively, and there are a few harvestables within reach of a couple locations. And you have a great viewing spot to cheer on the fight! 2. Scout Toward the end of the the invasions, those last few creatures can be hard to find. Running around the map and finding them for the fighters saves precious time. 3. Mage Remote healers are great, but don't waste mana or HE on other mages. Save it for fighters. Even though they have restore, it's still helpful to have someone around because of failures and cooldown. Poison works best since it stacks. Harm is a waste of precious DE, and doesn't take off as many health points (and sometimes doesn't take off any). 4. Mixers SRs, HE, and DE are critical to the success of these invasions, and try as we might, most of us still run out half way through. 5. Runners Don't mind dying? Some people are needed to run between mixers, mages, and fighters to help restock. Usually this means dropping a bag of HE, DE, SRs, and food into a bag near the group and making a small announcement. You'll be loved by all, and many players will drop token items (rings, coins, weapons, armor) in appreciation/payment for you to take (if you're the mixer) or distribute among mixers at storage. Have I left any out? I know someone is going to say "cannon fodder," but in my experience this can get pretty tedious and often isn't as useful as some of these other positions. I'd love to hear other ideas/strategies. I'd also like to know if this has encouraged anyone to join the fun in the next invasion. One of the charms of EL is the community, and these invasions are a great way to meet other players while working on skills and exploring.
  15. Guess the movie

Is it Waking Ned Devine? PS: What a great thread I never knew existed until today!
  16. Danger? Don't be 'daft!

Aph, it's charming! I hope it doesn't end there. It's nice to see a teenager as the protagonist since so many of these stories are about adults. Your character development through Aphistolas' interaction with the nanny is great. I immediately liked the character and wanted to see some of the trouble he would get into. It's too bad he never gets back home because I'd love to see a long series of little adventures (think Tom Sawyer) in which he always returns home to a nanny who scolds. But that's the direction I would take it and you're doing a fine job on your own. Chapter 1 repeats through the thread, so you might want to edit that out. Let me know in PMs if you want any punctuation editing help. I can't wait to see what happens next!
  17. How EVERYONE can participate in invasions

That was me! \o/ When I was working with that big group, I took out a few giants (1 alone! ) and took 1000+ hp off a red dragon (before backups arrived to help finish him off) using only poison before running out of DE (I had only prepared about 200 for that invasion). I'm working up to life drain, which is the most effective, but each invasion has gained me at least one magic level. You're very right about the exp. I'll be up to life drain soon! The only problem I have is getting that mercury. I'm very poor, so obviously KF is my only option. Naked merc runs FTW! Every time I'm on C1 during the week, I try to collect as much merc as possible, mix it, try to get more, and then follow it by making hundreds of SRs. This has lead to pretty quick leveling in alchemy and potions. Invasions have given me many levels across the board, and is one of the reasons I'd love to see more low/mid level players get involved. Even if all you can do to prepare is make HE and maybe do remote heal, you're going to see some pretty fast leveling.
  18. -Conspiricy Theory-

    14) the man 15) text messages as the primary form of teenage communication 16) google and wikipedia as the only known sources of reference for 90% of the population under the age of 25 and the persistent conviction that they are infallible (My favorite is #8.)
  19. Whats the Spirit of Pking?

The problem is alot of top 100s have "dp alts". Those alts have zero plans to do anything but slaughter dp pkers ad infinitum. Originally I think it was to have something else to do when pk in the rest of el died down. But now I think its just to frustrate dp pkers into leveling past that arena. Well, the frustrating part is certainly there, but I would be very curious to know if this is effective (meaning that there are people who have leveled up as a result of this frustration). More than likely, though, I would imagine that many have just given up and only fight monsters now. I would also guess that the one's who have given up probably don't read these PK threads as avidly as I do, though.
  20. The Sea King's Treasure

Huh. I didn't have any problem picturing Peino , but I can see how this might be a problem for others. Are all sea elves "kelp" colored (as Mugs likes to say)? Or is this a distinguishing characteristic of Peino? I think that little bit of information might be enough to satisfy most reader's needs and should be fairly simply to add in to the general background of the sea elves. And here is where you hate me... “Hail, Uncle!”, I called. There's no comma after the quotation mark when an exclamation or question mark is used inside the quote. You are welcome to throw something large and heavy at me next time you see me (like the Oxford English Dictionary).
  21. Turning off xp

I'm so glad Ent said this because, as I see it, the only problem with PK in EL is not the way it's set up, but rather the way people abuse the way it's set up. I just posted a rather lengthy reply in the 'spirit of pk' thread that I now realize could be just as applicable here. http://www.eternal-lands.com/forum/index.p...st&p=399807 I'm not directing this at you, Peeves, since I don't know if you've demonstrated any of this behavior, but certainly there are many people who try everything possible to stay in DP, and they make it impossible for those of us in the 30s to get to play, too. Little brown rabbits may be fun, but we all have to leave IP eventually. Edit: wrong link
  22. Whats the Spirit of Pking?

I hope by this statement you're including those of us with stats too low to PK in EL, but before anyone asks "why are you posting here? You don't PK!" let me hedge off those questions by stating that I do play a lot of PK games and I love PKing. I PK for the challenge, the thrill, and to test my ability. Just not in EL. Before I say anything, let me make it very clear that: 1. I have never PMed anyone to whine about being PKed. 2. I don't take it personally when I get PKed, and would hope that no one would take it personally if someday they ran into me and got PKed. 3. I can't wait for the PK server! I can't PK in EL becuase I'm 34/35. The best I can do (and what I usually do) is PM a friend and then run all over teh God's creation looking for a nice quiet PVP spot. I am what feels like years away from ever being in a position to attack anyone just for fun. (And yes, in other games I do think that's fun.) I'd get my ass handed to me on a silver platter. This is annoying and takes all the joy out of PKing. I know that DP arena was created with my needs in mind, but far too many people there take advantage and suck the fun out of it. Fun PK happens when you can attack an opponent with relative assurance that you at least stand the chance of fighting for more than 5 seconds. I've won a few fights in DP, only to be IMMEDIATELY killed by some jackass in full dragon and p/c 40/60. The lesson being that if you want to PK, don't bother doing anything else in the game. And yet, I always hear people complain that there's no one on such-and-such map and no one PKs anymore. The solution is simple: if you can kick everyone else's ass in DP, leave. Move on. Instead of jumping me as soon as I win, celebrate it. Instead of casting harm on me because (and this is an actual statement) you "got tired of watching the fight," let me train. PK takes more than just the right levels; it takes practice. Instead of grabbing TS pots to go PK, try a rosto and a new location. The purpose of DP is to allow newer players the chance to get in there and have fun with it, too. Eventually we will gain levels and armor and be a fair opponent, but only if we're given a place and option to fight at our level. The EL community is very effective at identifying negative or undesirable behavior and weeding it out. If this attitude were extended to PK arenas as well, there would be (IMO) far more people venturing into these arenas on normal days. As a general courtesy code, if you see someone in DP with no CoL fighting in leather, leave them to fight their equals, or wait for them to venture onto PK maps (which we do ). Until then, I'll have to be satisfied with hunting down my housemates in Golden Eye ('cause we're oldshool like that ).
  23. Practicing Strategy in Order to Kill Everyone!

In my opinion, the best strategy is the NDD invasion strategy: large groups. Guilds are going to be essential. I imagine the dynamics of guilds are going to be a bit different since each guild really will rely on the various skills of the players who want to join. The most successful guilds will be the most well-rounded, and the strongest players are going to be those who specialize quickly and become an asset to the group.
