Completely agreed. This has been mentioned a few times, but at the moment I see this as the biggest reason those undecedid folks haven't joined. A choice of servers at login would not only make it easier to log on, but would also be a daily reminder and get them thinking about it regularly. I play on a Mac, and it's a pain in the ass. I've tried explaining to other Mac users how to get on, and it takes forever to explain. To log on to my two characters, I have to have 5 windows open. I would love to hear if this suggestion is a possibility.

A brand new player wouldn't stick around too long, imo. A knowledge of maps and strategy is pretty essential. One of the aspects of PK server that I love the most is how much it tested my knowledge of EL and made me rethink how to do some of the things I did when I was beginning. For example, I was trying to kill wolves when everyone else seemed to be on wolves, so I switched to penguins (good att, bad def) for a couple days. There is no newbie help channel, and while I'm sure that many of the players on would answer questions and try to help, ultimately I think the advice I would end up giving is "go play on the main server, and then come back after a month." Probably best not to have to reset on the PK server.

So I'm going to be able to be here on the 16th, and I'm very disappointed, but I am happy that even though I'm missing the grand premiere of plays in EL, at least it sounds like this is going to become a regular event. I hope that scafativ has had a huge response to his post about looking for playwrights becuase this just sounds like too much fun. And good luck not crashing the server with the fireworks show! From the sound of it, it's going to be huge. Certainly the biggest one yet. -Sy

I've had two, but didn't keep the stats. I sort of see them like a trip to Vegas--plan to lose some $, but enjoy the momentary thrills in-between. Yes, there is a chance of getting lucky, but mostly it's the \o/ moments that I'm paying for (even if in the end they aren't really worth the cost of the med). I always lose in Vegas, but damn it's fun.

I agree with Ent. This should be the responsibility of the community. If we decide now that we are just going to run to him every time someone breaks the basic rule, we are just going to end up with mods and more rules. We are at a great advantage right now in that we are a small community; therefore, we should deal with it as a community. I see a couple of ways of handling it, and I would love to hear other ideas. These are just a few ideas. This problem will come up again, so there is no harm in coming up with various ways of dealing with it. 1. Allow the guild to deal with it and make amends with the offended person. 2. Create an all out "no trade/community ignore". Hard to do with someone in a guild and possible unknown alts. 3. Take a poll to determine the punishment (ie, perma-mute from public channels, community #ignore, community no-trade, temporary ban, etc...) Unless we choose to police ourselves, we will be policed. Note that while this particular situation is the basis of coming up with this, I'm not talking about just this situation. Personally, I would just prefer to see that SOME type of agreement is made about how we are going to deal with these very rare situations so that in the future, offenders aren't further gratified with a long, drawn out discussion. I can see this type of attention being incentive rather than a deterrent. Feeling very Margaret Mead atm... Edit: 4. The offended person states their case with evidence and a poll to determine 1. if the situation is severe enough to warrant a community response 2. proposed ways of handling it.

I was not there, but it does sound as if this goes beyond the normal cussing/flaming banter that we could all care less about. Before the char wipe, there were a couple very racist statements made by someone I won't mention becauase it was a while ago and I haven't heard it repeated by this person since, but it certainly got me thinking about the issue. We don't have mods, and most of us agree that this good, but when it comes to racist or sexist language that is directed at one person, to the point that that person feels the need to take it to a higher authority that doesn't exist, it is up to us to determine the appropriate recourse if we choose to continue to exist without mods. Certainly we're still a small enough group that this shouldn't be a problem. As adults (and I realize I'm using this term loosely), what do we feel would be an appropriate action to take without relying on a moderator to dole a punishment? Is any action required? Does the community recognize this as a true crime, or a minor infraction? How should situations like this be dealt with now and in the future? I'm going to go bury my head in a sociology book now...

Could we change the title of the PK Market subforum from Market to PK Market? I know it seems silly since it is technically under the PK server forum, but if you use the "view new posts" function as I do, the forum place merely says "Market" and when you go to that topic, it is easy to overlook that it is the PK server market. We've had a couple missposts and I believe this is the reason.

Seriously, what is all the hostility against the PK server? The point of the thread is NOT to find those three or four people who are so bitter about it that they have to reiterate over and over and over why they would never come here, blah blah blah. The point of this thread is to come up with ideas for how to attract new people. So far Conavar is the only non-pk server player who has added anything constructive. Unless you play the pk server, are interesting in finding out more about it, or have suggestions or ideas about how we can attract new players, please stop the bitching. As it stands, these forum threads do not paint an accurate picture of what the server is like mostly because so many people who don't know what they are talking about keep insisting that it's this way or that way. It's not. There are many of us on these forums who have spent quite a bit of time over there who are trying to say what it IS like and the fact that we are all agreeing against you should say something. What I find the oddest is that there are so many people who want to pick fights about how much they don't want to go over there and fight.

I find it curious how many people are adamant (almost passionately) about NOT joining the PK server. A lot of time and though has gone into some of these arguments. And I thought we dispelled the idea that hotzenplots is radu?

I haven't had a lot of time to play the last couple weeks, so both of my characters are pretty behind, but then I logged on two days ago, got attacked, and won! I died quickly thereafter, but it proved the point that everyone's levels are all over the place and new players shouldn't be discouraged. I think there are still a lot of persistent misconceptions about the PK server, so the two week trial period sounds like the best idea to me. I also agree that a description on the main website might help to bring in new "blood"

I knew we were outnumbered, but 81% male? Can that be correct? I knew there was a slight imbalance, but I hadn't expected the number to be that wildly different. Now I'm wondering if what we're seeing is an imbalance in the number of men vs. women in forums. I'd love to see a stats quote from Ent about the number of female characters and compare it. Looking at those numbers has made me really curious. Come on women! Be counted! (literally)

Actually, since "sora" means sister in Romanian, my first assumption was otherwise, but is sounds like those who know you have reason to see why you're obviously male. Just in case my siggy, name, and the fact that I yell at anyone who mistakes me for a man doesn't make it completely obvious, I am a female. (A siren was a greek mythological woman/bird-like creature who lured sailors, men, to their death through their song. A wren is a small song bird. Both elements are rather feminine in my opinion, so how there is ever any confusion confuses me.)
