Excellent idea, that would surely be a great introduction to the game for total newbies. Just a couple (or more) of suggestions: 1. make the "school principal" NPC stand in the hallway, instead of one of the rooms, so that he's the first one the new characters see as soon as they enter the school 2. have his welcome message appear not in local chat but as one of the usual green messages you get when you enter some places (like the "Holy cow! you discovered etc." message in evtr), so you don't "spam" local 3. limit the rooms to half a dozen or little more, to make it look simpler (and not that you need a sort of degree to play the game): you could have a "Basics" class (harvesting, eating, cooking meat), an "Alchemy" one, a fighting one, and the like; no need to introduce all of the game skills, especially since some of them (tailoring, engineering) are advanced level ones 4. don't make the school sequential: let people choose what they want to learn first, because it could be frustrating for people who have already figured out classes 1-3 to have to go through them anyway to get to 4. No bad luck, I'd say. One of my guildies broke a full titanium armor in two training sessions, the same armor that lasted for a long time, and he also had NMT and a very favorable astrology. Needless to say, he was less than pleased ... I was going to write "will have to test this myself" (didn't train all that much recently) but, on second thought ... Rehdon

Kudos to all those involved! EL is getting better and better. Rehdon

On second thought, the executable I produced is almost exactly of the same size as the previous one: I tried to make a "make clean" but that didn't work. Second problem: the executable I compiled still has the 1.50 string in it, and as such it's not accepted by the EL server after the update. EDIT: a post in the programming forum helped me with both issues Rehdon

That did it for me Schmurk, thanks a lot. A curiosity: why my executables are about 10 Mb size while the official clients for Linux are always about 4 Mb? Is building a (semi-)static client the default option? Rehdon

Hmmm, I'm not so sure about the "impatience" factor: I both buy bones *and* hunt animals/farm skeletons to get bones, the latter being quite a tedious task. I'm all for teaching newbies about the mechanics of the game, that they can provide low level ingredients to higher level players so that both gain in the process, but going around IP explaining everyone I meet these things, over and over again, battling with language barriers, doesn't seem feasible to me: call me impatient if you like, but back to hunting I'd go rather than doing that (and I'd gather bones far quicker, I believe). Perhaps, and besides the usual moderator work of tipping new players, you could add a little newbie welcome and first steps in the encyclopedia, and have it pop up about ten times for new players. Anyway, I believe that the goal of this thread was to point out an imbalance in the game (bones are used in more ways than before and their availability has decreased) and suggest a solution (make more creatures drop bones): what's wrong with the proposed solution? It's not that you can cause a "bone inflation" in the game, no more than you can have a blue lupine one (i.e. there *are* some resources virtually unlimited for all players). I must say that now that I'm doing both engineering and a little summoning I run out of bones quite quickly, fortunately I resisted the temptation of getting the IEDP perk when it came out! IMHO both "educating" newbies and adding bones to some boneless creatures would help, you can sure tweak things in the opposite direction if a bone deluge on the game causes problems Rehdon

Even better would be a slider in the trade window, going from 1 to ALL (or a fixed amount, would depend on the item traded) when you sell stuff, and from 1 to MAX (EMU capacity) when you're buying stuff. The good, old Heroes of Might and Magic games had this sort of interface, including a field to type in the exact amount desired, and it was very effective; sorry, I couldn't find a screenshot of the HOMM trade window, I could just dig one of my copies up and install it to take one if needed. I agree with Korrode (and Aislinn, and others ...): the clops' drops are pretty disappointing when compared to the amount of resources (hes, srs, armors) you have to invest to train on them. And don't forget that to really train comfortably on clops you'd better buy an NMT cape. So, yes, it was painful to discover that, after investing a lot of time and energies to get to clop level, the reward is so small. I get your point about ogres mp, but consider that A) there's just so many ogres one can kill and preserve his sanity B ) ogre spots are quite crowded already, if everyone were supposed to skip armed orcs and clops to get directly to fluffy you'd just get even longer queues at ogre spawns. The progression from monster to monster should not have "black holes", or player distribution would be unequal, with people clogging the most profitable ones only. Note that I recently moved to fluffies, so I say this with little self-interest on my part Rehdon

Alphabetically sorted storage categories
Rehdon replied to Vegar's topic in Suggestions - General, Misc.
I would surely love to see both alphabetically sorted categories (they already are in the Encyclopedia) and rearrangeable items in the store. Rehdon -
My 0,02€: it is indeed true that at certain times of the day for some specific monsters in some specific locations during Sun Tsu special days you often have to wait before having a chance at doing some training. That said, the situation is bearable so far, but more spawns would surely help, at least a handful for very popular creatures (ogres, fluffies, etc. ... the bread and butter of every trainer Sure, one could do something else, but it can be a little frustrating if you mainly want to be a fighter ... and there are already several factors influencing your activities (astrology, special days). Is anyone testing the Linux version? I can compile from CVS and have a go, if needed. Rehdon

You mean that EL runs on an EeePC??? That would be amazing! One more reason to get one Rehdon

Much faster indeed! I liked the previous color scheme better (warmer) but I'm getting used to the new one anyway. Thanks for all the hard work you put into the site Rehdon

Argh, only now noticed thread ... anyway: congrats Blodoks!!! I'm sure we won't see that many announcements of people reaching Summoning 100, truly an unique achievement. Rehdon

Happy birthday EL!!! And a big thank you to all the people who created the game and help in making it work every day! Rehdon

Hello Ent, I can understand your frustration with people doing the opposite of what they should have done, but consider that not all of them (surely not a friend of mine) "decided" to do so: if someone logins just before the invasion begins, it could well happen that the (final, not all of them) instructions get lost in the quick exchange of messages with guild friends, because the color is exactly the same (at least this is what happened to my friend, no intent of disrupting the invasion taking advantage of portal room position). Perhaps invasion warnings, and possibly all messages from you, should be in a different color than GM messages? I'll admit that there aren't that many colors left to choose from, purple perhaps? Nice job again Roja. I remember Ent writing about pets in the forum recently, does someone remember in which thread? Rehdon
