Has there been some "spring cleaning" of little-used characters over the (Northern hemisphere) summer? I ask because I recently discovered that a char of mine named Dad23 had been deleted from the main server, and I would be very surprised if I had kill_me'd it myself. It still exists on the test server, with its exc cape, and a few thousand FE ings waiting to be mixed. Is there any chance that I could have it copied back to the main server? Buchaille

lol I died 4 times in this screenie. This must have been the phantom warriors invasion, when according to my counters I died 6 times. Still trying to work out when Korushiku could have pk'd me during the invasion as my death counters claim... Is C2 underworld PK? I escaped from C2 underworld 3 times and always had the time to move away from the entrance before being assaulted by a cockatrice or giant because there were so many other players about. I could easily have used a ring and did so on one occasion to return to VOTD to collect more HE. I must have been lucky, as I managed to pass through the Underworld Yetis unscathed and escaped from the underworld. I tried to harm the Red Dragon, grued, and reappeared right in front of it with inevitable results. I really enjoyed the Great Invasion, all the more so as in other respects I found no drop day dissappointing as it was impossible to find anyone remotely near my own a/d in TD or KF - high level players were swatting us too fast ... quick deaths are no fun.

Well, I read all 11 pages of posts before voting and eventually decided to vote Yes. I think The_Piper's first post summed up the pros and cons fairly accurately. However, I think Conavar's idea of an autologout feature is well worth exploring to avoid lots of abandoned characters lying around AFK.

EL works great on Linux for me, and my only contact with XP has been fixing problems on other people's boxes, so I have absolutely no reason to use Vista. @Mugwump: try a linux live cd like Mepis or Kubuntu to get the feel of linux, then install Kubuntu. After a week or two you'll forget you ever used anything else. You get so used to opening Synaptic and choosing an app to install when you have a new job to do, that installing apps from CD or DVD on other OSs quickly begins to seem prehistoric

I wish I was so confident. The problem that the mods have is that if more than one character is running from the same IP, there is no reliable way of telling if they are being used by one player or more. Sure, they can look at the logs, analyse the trades, style of play, etc., but that takes a lot of time that they probably feel could be better used elsewhere, and still comes down to a guess one way or the other in the end, since I believe there is no server record of pms. My two sons are not allowed to trade with each other or with me and so far I haven't dared to trade with them if I've been at work and they at home (the IPs are conspicuously similar - same ISP). It's a shame it has to be this way, as it would be much more fun if we could work together.

Some time ago, when EL was at 1.2.x, I installed it on a T22 laptop running ubuntu 5 with no problems except that the graphics card was so slow that the frame rate rarely exceeded 1, making it unplayable. Which linux executable are you using? I have run EL on 4 different distros and usually find that using the el*.linux.static.bin executable solves any problems.

This would probably scare the gnomes who are already developing a complex about being eaten But, seriously, a quicker way to PM would be very welcome, and very happy to learn that one day we will be able to copy from chat: slow typists like myself will be delighted when we can copy and resend the messages that we accidentally sent to local instead of typing them again
