Client build to test for the 1.9.7 release

OOP helpfully reported a client crash while using the buddy window.  I've reproduced the crash and have a fix.  The bug occurs across all platforms and is also in the 1.9.6 client!  I'll do new builds tomorrow.

The Linux, Windows and Android files have all been updated to include the "add buddy" fix.  Version numbers will be like 1.9.6-20241115.<hhmm>.

Another Android build fixing an android only bug.  If you used "//" to autofill chat with the last player that messaged you, then on some devices, you could not delete all the text using backspace.  This bug was also reported by OOP, thank you!  The new version number is 1.9.6-20241116.2051.

with the mac client an old problem i had and is present on the new test version is when taking items out of the storage in the magic section, some of the items would change places as you remove stuff, i have a screen recording of this and will try to upload it here either from my mac or via a youtube link

its more an annoyance than a must fix, not sure if other mac users have same problem?

Do you have item_uid set to 1?  Use the command "#item_uid" until it says " Send Item UIDs 1`.  Does that help?

One problem that would be nice if it could be fixed, I know I mentioned it on @6 the other week, I don't know if anyone saw it, is that if I am standing close enough to the store NPC to open the storage I should be close enough to use the storage. I'm not talking about moving once it's open, just when I am standing still, click the NPC to open the window and then can't use it without moving closer.

I think that can only be fixed on the server.

The full 1.9.7 version will not just be the binary, but more/changed data and map files. It'll be a full installation, not just a binary replacement.

The launcher (macOS-only for anybody unfamiliar, solves a few platform related problems and adds some extra features for Mac users) will continue to be bundled with the main app and will continue to work as before. On this occasion there have been no changes so the one you’re using now will work just fine :)

i put the 1.9.6 clients in the bin and when i open a second client from the launcher it still opens 1.9.6 not the 1.9.7

The test version number is 1.9.6-20241116.2051

 

You won't see 1.9.7 until the official 1.9.7 release.

 

You can confirm you have the correct one otherwise by clicking on a creature that's too far away to attack. If you start  walking towards it instead of getting the "you are too far away" message, then you're on the test build.

yes its the correct one as i have the food bar above and the creature attack does walk towards
when i open a second client it opens the old version without the food bar and creature walk on attack

also launching a new client from the launcher without any other open launches the old one,

when i open with launcher it opens old, i can then click on the new normal client icon and it opens a new version, maybe the launcher just needs to wait for the updated client package too?

when i click on the launcher (blue icon) and ask to see original it shows a brown icon in there two from 2021 which is probably the one the launcher is using to launch second clients? it wont allow be to swap that out from the drag and drop,

Caladina, the launcher works completely independently of the main EL app. It sounds like you’re either launching things directly from the distribution disk image or somehow still have the old client on your Mac somewhere.

 

I’ll send you a forum PM about this shortly so we can figure it out without derailing the main feedback thread :)

I've done new builds dated 23 November, fixing very old issues with the icon bar and indicators:

  • Within limits, prevent icon window width exceeding available space.
  • Indicators position fixes when in default location and auto hide/show depending on space,

what is the move to attack feature?

can people on test client test this : when entering a new map then clicking on an npc for the first time, if you are out of range the game sends you on a very long autowalk in the opposite way, may also be much longer extion of the old 'click on a tree while walking 'feature' and have the char walk in the opposite direction

its easy to stop just re click again but mentioning if its an easy fix

test on ida storeman sent me to 463,155
has to be first after entering map as doing it a second time doesnt do it

ok it gets weirder
i left a drop bag of bits i didnt want up in the ida desert, as i went back to store i deliberately clicked on the storeman out of reach and it auto walked me back to the  drop bag i had just left, so seems to take you back to last action, i was on horse at the time but i have noticed long click backs while on foot
client is the mac version,

tested on ip, kill creature then go to storeman on ip, same scenario 
same on wraith so any npc, happens after you do another action then click out of reach of npc

could be a mac only issue

Bluap only does Win, Lin, Android builds. His latest fix above takes care of that exact problem.

 

It's only still happening on Mac because Mac builds haven't been updated.

 

It will be fixed on Mac with the next build, and there will at minimum be one more of those, for the final client build.

 

 

 

FTR this bug is remembering the last critter kill location, and if too far away from an NPC will send you back to those coordinates. If your last kill was on a different map, it'll send you to the coordinates of that kill but on the new map. (i.e. if you kill the rat or spider in the low coordinates of the EVTR tavern cellar, then leave and too-far-away click the storage, it'll walk you to those low coordinates on EVTR main, down in the red forest.)
The fix will just give you the usual too-far-away message for the NPC and stop walking  like always.
