I'm using whatever was on linux mint Tricia.  How do i check the version? the game won't load so i can't check it. It worked on ubuntu 20 though on the same computer, but not on Linux Mint Mate Tricia.

the error is :

Fatal Error! [/run/build/client/servers.c:223] Fatar error: servers.lst is empty!

I found the version in the software Manager! it's 1.9.6.1.  The package version is  org.pjbroad.EternalLandsClient

That means you have a file that is corrupt, or at least has no recognisable servers listed. Thus, the client doesn't know how to connect to the server (there are several possibilities).

The contents should be something like this:

Quote

# server.lst - Server list configuration file
#
# Note: Any amount of whitespace is allowed and # marks a comment from that point until
#       the end of the line
#
# ID            Config Dir      Address                 Port    Description (to be used for server selection window)
main            main            game.eternal-lands.com  2000    Main game server
official        official        game.eternal-lands.com  2000    Main game server
pk              pk              game.eternal-lands.com  2002    PK game server
test            test            game.eternal-lands.com  2001    Test server

hey i got it to work! lol. had to update it with Sudo command instead of through update manager!

Ubuntu .deb Packages

  1. Open a command line terminal then enter the following commands:
  2. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pjbroad/ppa
  3. sudo apt-get update
  4. sudo apt-get install eternallands

This will install the client and data packages, and normally, the sound package too. If the sound package is not included but you want it, use:

  1. sudo apt-get install eternallands-sound

Additionally, if you want the music use:

  1. sudo apt-get install eternallands-music

quick question. now the game and screen keeps freezing and crashing the computer only a few moments into the game on occasion. would that be a hardware or RAM issue causing this?

What's the system requirements on game?  this crashing didn't happen on ubuntu 20 that often in recovery mode

That's the snap version.  Still doesn't explain why you had the empty servers.lst file.  However, with snaps, the servers.lst file is located in HOME/snap/eternallands/common/config/ not $HOME/.elc/.

You installed and got working the ubuntu deb version that does use $HOME/.elc/.

You need accelerated graphics but the game works on pretty well older machines, you just get a lower frame rate.  It should not keep crashing.  Do you have anything specific that causes it crash or any error messages.  Have you looked in the log file $HOME/.elc/logs/main_<some random character>.log, anything fatal in there?
