[Closed] New development version of the Android client

Discovered an issue with right click... tricky on android - but if you connect an external mouse - right click on the ground causes map walking to stop working - you can click on inventory - but you cannot walk!

Yes, the input on Android uses different code so even with an external mouse, you can't right click.  You can left click and hold as if you are going a long press.

The latest build 1.9.5-20210808.1853 includes is form latest main client git including 1.9.6p9 changes.

 

New to the Android version

  • fix for exit when plugging in / removing a keyboard or mouse
  • custom cloths (may have to be removed for the play store version)
  • the EL logo toggles the on-screen keyboard (if not using it as a web link)
  • a new option to set the time delay before a moving finger presses being interpreted as movement
    • this improves the issue Codor was having I hope (the default is higher than before)
  • access to the android system fonts

Thank you very much for the improvements you made !

But the right HUD area is failing often so using items or cast a spell is to repeat.

Its just a question of habit

I do not experience this at all.  Could this something you have set differently to me in your Android input settings?

With the latest build I get the following error on startup, granted this is on a very old Android tablet running Android 5.1.1 so I'm pushing my luck with compatibility but the previous version worked fine.

Well, shoot.

 

Looks like you're not the only one (see e.g here or here). Looks like the client might be loading the system openssl library instead of the one bundled with the client.

 

I'll see if I can fix this.

Grum has hopefully fixed this (thanks) and I've updated the build.  Version 1.9.5-20210921.1411 also includes all the latest changes from the main client git.

I just installed the latest 1.9.6.0-rc1-20211109.0003 version and am running on the test server. I also have a previous installation of the 1.1.2 android client and that was the last and only android version that I used on my current phone.

 

A couple observations and questions on the new version:

 

  • I got the screen where I have to read and accept the rules the first 2 times I launched the client.  After that it no longer takes me to that screen.
  • The client crashed right after fighting my first mob. I fought a falcon with a gatherer medallion and I received the drop. As soon as I tried to step away from the dead mob, the client crashed. After relaunching, it no longer crashes.
  • How do I open the mini-map?  I tried tapping the top right corner of the screen but the click goes either onto a tile on the game screen or if I click on the EL icon in the HUD, I get a keyboard pop up.  I had no problems like this on the old version. One difference is that on the old version, the Android bar with the battery, clock, notification icon, etc. is hidden and so is the HUD. On the new version, I can't seem to click on the right spot either with the HUD visible or hidden.
  • There is a big difference in the interface and font scale between 1.1.2 and 1.9.6.  In 1.9.6 everything is so tiny, I can only click menu options with much difficulty. Even cranking the scaling options way up barely makes a difference. Is there any way to control the resolution?

Using adb logcat to capture the messages at the time of the crash when fighting here is the output.

I'm at a complete loss here:  I can't make the keyboard come up when not in F1/console mode.  How does one chat without going into F1?  Nevermind, found that it's the EL icon but what if we use that for EL site link?

In the latest version you get help in the console when you login.  If you switch on the EL logo link you can press and hold near the top of the screen instead.  Again there is help in the console when you switch.  I've tried a lot of ways to make the keyboard work when it should and be easy to open.  I'd hoped people would notice the console help.

I can see how to get the keyboard when in F1/console. I figured that out, also figured out why the text line is at the top (moving it back to bottom hides the line when the keyboard is up.) I did see that help.  However that doesn't help with bringing up the keyboard when not in console, which is necessary at times.  The EL icon is fine, I've always used it for EL site/forums link, but that's not crucial I guess.

The help covers both console and non-console mode.
