SolarStar Report post Posted May 15, 2013 (edited) First I like to say that I do not want to discredit the guild N.S. In germany the abreviation NS is very well known. It stands for National Sozialismus, eng.: National Socialism I find this very irritating and others mind think too that this is a nazi guild! The guild info gives: Guild scotia has 11 members. The guild URL is: blank General info: This is an invitation only guild... I spoke with Anuerysm about my concern but I'm not sure if he takes it serious. Does anyone else have a problem with that or is that just me ? PS: Please read wikipedia article about forbidden Vehicle registration plates of Germany Edited May 15, 2013 by SolarStar
Maxine Report post Posted May 16, 2013 In the Netherlands it is the abbreviation for the national railroad company, tonally harmless, never heard of Germans not wanting to use our trains.

Entris Report post Posted May 16, 2013 Unfortunately lots of things can be connected with Nazis and their logos and what not but for that matter it doesn't mean that they are using it for that purpose. If they were using it for the Nazi connection it would be very bad but they might have that tag for another reason. Just because it means one thing in one country it doesn't mean the same thing in every country.

tork_unib Report post Posted May 16, 2013 A lot of pre-existing symbols were repurposed under the nazis. That's not a totally sound justification for never ever using said symbols again for their original/alternate purposes.

vinoveritas Report post Posted May 27, 2013 As a german, i must say i understand SolarStar. The Nazi's are still a problem in germany and the topic still very sensitive. But on the other hand, there are to many things, that are totally harmless, that get put under the surge of that problem, because their suggested closeness to that system that does not exist. Be it sayings, that in it self are harmless, but because "the NS Regime" used it, they are banned for usage. Or like you said certain signs on car licence plates. and so on. As long as the N.S. Guild does not in anyway make comments and actions that shows their support for that system, i would say let it be. The 3rd Reich of the NS regime is now gone for 68 years. The people supporting that insanity are a minority. We should slowly get used to it that people will use some of the abbreviation of that time in different context. And do not know that they can mean something else and what bad stuff was connected to it once.
Devnul Report post Posted May 28, 2013 We should slowly get used to it that people will use some of the abbreviation of that time in different context. And do not know that they can mean something else and what bad stuff was connected to it once. I am sure Germans would love to see that happen (people forget about WWII and Nazi scam) but we can’t let it happen. We all should pass the history for all next generations. We need to remember this, learn the lesson, and avoid it in future. However Solar’s claims about the shortcut NS are exaggerated.
vinoveritas Report post Posted May 28, 2013 I did not say we should forget about WWII and the Nazi regime and the brutality of it, Quite the opposite. This part of history should never ever get a chance to repeat itself. You will not find many Germans who say lets forget about world war II. You will find people who say i am not in any way responsible for it, and for almost all living Germans that will be true. But the acts that where done there are to terrible that we would want to let them be forgotten. Other countries who had similar (not the same) tendencies and actions are far more forgetful about this. There are these days quite a few countries out there, and at least 2 of them in my book should know better as they where victims of the NS regime, that seam to have forgotten, what made that regime possible and which same to have learned the wrong messages out of it. I do not suggest ever not to teach or to forget the horrors of the regime. History needs to be remembered, and put out there. And you should be allowed to say this or that country has a tendency that may lead into that direction. (its a Taboo to say for example this regime action is comparable with a Nazi regime action, because it is not as brutal as the Nazis where). But at the same time you should see that two letters abbreviations like NS does not automatically needs to be mean National Socialism. but maybe just means Nathan Samuel or something else harmless. And yes we germane should get used to the idea that there are people out there be it in Germany, in the USA, Israel, China or anywhere else, who regardless if it was thought in school or not do not know it. I for example would like to use the words that where a inscription over a Konzentrationzlager (collective work prison for ethic and political unwanted people who if they could not work anymore would be killed) in a normal text with its original from that fact untainted meaning. Because in certain context it states a simple truth. But because it was used on that place, no German is up to today able to use those words, because the fact that the sentence was misused in that terrible place made it unusable. Politicians who used said sentences usually had to step down in the past even if the context where they said it was harmless.
nathanstenzel Report post Posted May 28, 2013 It sounds more like your searching for deamons. N.S., with the guild info talking saying 'scotia', very evident that it's about nova scotia. I agree. Now on the topic of nazis, the swastika was actually a holy symbol and is really quite ancient. Don't take it to always be a bad thing just because a hateful madman used it. You also should not always consider bitch as being a bad word, since the Proper use of it is to describe a female dog. It is a shame and an insult to female dogs that people started to use the word bitch to refer to female humans that the speaker does not like.
nathanstenzel Report post Posted May 28, 2013 By the way, NS also stands for netscape, Negeri Sembilan, "Nice Shot", "Non-Smoker", "Not Sure", "No S**t", network simulator, non-symmetric, not significant.
