Reconnect option

Recommended Posts

OMG please for the love of god put a stupid reconnect icon in the next client update.

im on a weak wifi connection and every time it slows down to a crawl or disconnects and reconnects, i gotta restart the client.

and on a bad day, the wifi will loose connection every 10-15 min.

by the time i get back into the game, connect drops again.

RARELY does ALT+X appear when i do realize it lost connection.

Quick fix: run two clients, when one crashes switch to the other.

I have been DCing on MBs in invances/invasions with the new Win client, not a situation where you want to wait for a long time before logging back on.

A log out button and a clear button for the log in page.

For something totally not graphical.....#lagged or #reconnect (disconnects and instantly reconnects).

An option to set the timeout would be good too. You could set a timeout in config and if you don't get a packet in that amount of time, it pings and a long ping would trigger a reconnect. Or maybe a little before the timeout have it send the ping. Something like that.

Keep in mind that a reconnect option would probably make Entropy add login spam detection for people constantly reconnecting. Making a connection to the server is 'expensive' and always requires logging in and being sent ALL data to you and resends your char to everyone around you.

Now think of the troublemakers that might try to lag people out around them by constantly reconnecting, or other attempts to cause problems. He's already gotten pissed off at some bots that got stuck in loops trying to login. That means this isn't just a client side decision, Entropy needs to be involved as well.

I agree, sometimes when i lose my internet the client takes +2 minutes to notice the crash.

The buttom sound better, since if you want to type when no connection it will try to log in (even if you arent connected to the web)

DO the reconnect button this way, that it makes a small check if connection is uphold (ping no return in n seconds button reconnects) this should get all troublemaker away from using this button to lag one, and still give people who lag out, the oportunity to reconnect faster as quite often they know before the server does that they have disconnected.

connection control ftw :D just put an increasing delay for reconnection attempts (5s 10s 30s?) to block spamming.

btw I'd very much like to stay logged out with the client open (keep the session or something), but when I'm disconnected the client reconnects as soon as I press any key (maybe there's a way I don't know to block it?) - it even reconnects when I press alt to do alt+x/alt+f4 and I log in for <1s before I close the client..

This suggestions ist to force a reconnect BEFORE the press any key would do a connect. That means the client requesting a disconnect first if it thinks it's connected, then starting a new connection.

I understand what the original idea was and I'm sorry if my post didn't seem so much on topic, but since the suggestion is to put a reconnect button, I just thought I could modify the idea so that it served a 2nd purpose. here's a better explanation of what could be better:

few times it happened that I went afk and came back, and saw the beautiful red message 'Disconnected from server! Press Alt-x to close the game'

then I decide - oh well, I'm already offline I might do something else or close the client and restart it or whatever

I press ALT... (and in that moment client recognizes keypress and connects me, eating up those server resources You mentioned, and confusing friends if I'm there or not)... +X/F4

so instead of that automatic reconnection attempt there better be said button we've all seen in other games/programs: click to connect *magic change of icon* click to disconnect / stop trying to connect / close fake-active connection *magic change of icon* click to connect again. that's what I wanted to suggest

Just close the client using the close button provided by your OS/WM, rather than using alt+x. On Windows and most Linux setups it's an 'x' in the top right of the window.

(i.e. plz don't overcomplicate it, we just want a simple reconnect button ;p)
