saxum Report post Posted September 10, 2011 Currently if you send a PM to someone who happens to not be on it may be received by someone else whose name is same but longer by one or more characters. Examples: /BOO Are you on? could be sent to Bookstore /Andy Ready for invasion? could be sent Andy_C etc Checking who is on and auto complete both help but do not prevent all problems. Suggestion for correction: /BOO$ would ONLY go to BOO - if player or bot with not that exact name is on (without $) then a message would be returned "No player is in the game with the name of ..." but players/bots with longer names would not get message. Aislinn Report post Posted September 10, 2011 It's not just pm-ing that makes a problem. I've accidentally locked the wrong person, once in a while a bot too, for the same autocomplete problem. Even checking if the person is online first doesn't always work if they log off between check and command sent. I've asked for an on/off command for autocomplete but have been rejected. I'd be ecstatic if radu changed his mind and put something in to help with this.
korrode Report post Posted September 11, 2011 i think *nix style tab-autocomplete would be nice
Raytray Report post Posted September 11, 2011 Another hotkey would be great, as tab is generally used for tab. ctrl-space comes to mind. At the moment (last I checked, it's used for autocompleting names you have seen ingame, not names online at that moment.)

nathanstenzel Report post Posted September 14, 2011 A problem that people have asked for a fix for since 2005 or so..... Too bad I can't locate the last thread that I suggested a fix for this in. I think I suggested something like /name, message to stop autocompletion. Using * and ? in names for more complete control could be useful to. Turning it off could be useful too. A client request to the server could be useful to. We could even have a text box on the side of the client that could hold a possible set of names or words that you could click on. We just need SOME fix. A small improvement is still an improvement. It would be nice if this problem does not have to wait another 5 years to be fixed. purplehaze Report post Posted September 14, 2011 I've found that you can click people who're online from your buddy list but, yes, I can understand how embarrassing it could be to send a PM to the wrong person. Nathan, are you referring to adding a type of "stop point"? If there were players Bone and Bones, you could type (/Bone*)? I agree this is a good idea. Cycloonx Report post Posted September 14, 2011 Or just something like: /PlayerName does autocompletion !PlayerName does no autocompletion This way there is only 1 new server command needed and players can still use what they like.

I wonder if the spanish (or those with similar language bases) use a normal exclamation mark instead of an upside down one in EL. If so, "/!name" would be better than "!name". Either way, I think "/name," is better than either one because it is natural typed english else than the starting "/". http://spanish.about.com/od/writtenspanish/a/punctuation.htm "¡principio y fin de exclamación o admiración!"
