1.9.2 Update

I put a spare HDD in my laptop and installed Ubuntu 10.10 + EL on it, so that I could test the difference in map-change times with all other specs held constant, and timed IP->WS on both, and then on SSD with bluap's patched binary.

 

With the HDD, the first IP-WS change took slightly longer, but subsequent IP-WS changes took the same time as with the SSD - stopwatch showing 2.3s consistently for both drives. Using bluap's patch on the SSD, I found no measurable decrease in times - though the loading bar did not move nearly as smoothly as with the unpatched binary (the result of fewer updates).

As much as I enjoyed split-second map changes, waiting an extra ~2s whenever I go to WS isn't going to negatively affect me in any way (it's good to slow down a bit every now and then...).

 

I'm fine with sacrificing a little speed on my laptop so that the majority of players can gain a little. Now, can the next update slow down those with the fastest ping times just a little and speed up my 200-300ms times in exchange? :P

I downloaded the entire new file instead of using the patch and installed that. I also switched to Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. One more thing that I found, though. The chat log shows that I did connect so I'm pasting a few lines from that first (friend's name was manually removed).

 

Ok, so what happened after that? Did it crash? If you reinstalled the game, did you delete the old files first? Try doing that. Also try to delete el.ini from your settings directory.

And are you 100% sure your video drivers are updated to the latest version? If so, how did you update them?

I used Driver Genius to find the drivers and update them. It crashes almost at the same point. I looked for the el.ini, but it's not in the my documents Eternal Lands folder like it is in 1.9.1. The only one I found was in the Program Files Eternal Lands directory. It's pointing to the server on port 2001?

What do you mean it's not in my documents? How do you know? And when you said you updated your drivers, I assumed you actually did it properly, as in downloading the drivers manually from the AMD site..

Anyway, are you sure you have every single thing disabled in the settings window?

Here's a question... I know someone that gets a lot of errors after downloading a new update every time... and come to find out, the problem is that they never restart the client after installing.

 

Did you close the client before installing? And restart after installing?

 

Don't know if it will help... Just thought I would toss a theory...

 

 

Anyway, the new update is VERY nice, I love how smooth it runs. 2 clients are hardly laggy now, thank you :)

I re-installed it and I've got an el.ini in the folder. I have disabled everything I could (even went into the el.ini file and set things to 0. I've tried turning on things that I have no idea what they do (New Selection, Compiled Vertex Array). I can't turn on Use Animation Program (I don't have a clue what it does anyway). I'm ready to give up and start saving for a new computer. Please don't delete me...I'll be back... :D

A new computer is always a good idea, although I think your existing computer should work. Did you try to disable custom clothes, just in case?

And when the game crashes, can you go to "details" or "show report" or whatever and tell me if the crash happened in el.exe or some .dll?

 

Anyway, I think I told you to run the client from command line, like this: el.exe --debug and post the last 50-100 lines of the log..

can anyone tell me why my client crashes as soon as i log in? i am on windows and when i load client, the screen is white and then i log in and it crashes and says "client has stopped working", can anyone help me? i have un-installed and re-installed and also before that i downloaded update and nothing worked.

I tried, but it crashed right after clicking done (about the same point as before). It's not getting to the point of saving my settings because I have to accept the terms each time. Since I'm the only one that seems to be having this particular problem, it's got to be something with my pc, so I'll stop posting on this topic. I can still play on the other server...yay!! :) Thanks for your help and patience :)

One funny effect i've spotted so far...

 

When you change to another map, using a flag, AND on the other map are creatures or players walking near the spot, where you are entering the map, those creatures/players are running like they are on speed hax^2.

 

After a second, this effect is gone and everybody is moving with normal speed again.

But... I can only GUESS, I am not computer savvy, just trying to see if I can help decipher it.

I wasn't sure where to post this, so I posted where I posted before in case anyone else winds up with the same problem and has an ATI Xpress 200 integrated video card. It was the driver...I tried another driver manually, as Radu said, and it worked and I'm logged into the game! :)
