Custom Clothing

Official Custom Clothing

  1. 1. Would you use Custom Clothing if it's official?

    • No, not interested in any custom clothing.
    • No, I use the unofficial one and probably always will.
    • I would use it however it works(even if it's just to view not to purchase).
    • I would only use it if it works a certain way, otherwise not interested.
  2. 2. How would you like it to work if you'd use it?

    • I would use it if it worked just like the unofficial ones.(all clothes customizable)
    • Only special "custom" clothing items customizable. This way you can still see all official items.
    • Only allow some official items customizable(such as cloaks, maybe shields too)
    • Other (describe your idea below)

Ah, thank you for that info :)

I'd like to see designers be able to customize designs and be given commission by shop. EL Inc gets some money and the player gets some money/credit. If the work of those who already started doing customizations is thrown away so shop can earn money then I am less inclined to give money to shop.

For the guilds this could be a win-win scenario. Designs for items are paid for once to be stored and it could create stronger presence of guilds than just a name tag and help with recruitment.

By having player designs enhance not take over game it would be better for everyone. Some changes could be made in graphics of EL to help on this (i.e. shield design so it is very obvious no matter how painted what type a shield is).

It'd still work the way the unofficial server does as in, if you want your own custom cloak you gotta find or pay someone to make it for you. So there's your commission :P

And the unofficial servers will always remain as long as people have them up so...it's always an option to stay with.

I think the whole customs clothing thing has gone a bit overboard. I think it would be cool if guilds could get custom guildcapes and shields, and perhaps each player could be allowed 1 personal design, something like that.

In any case, it would be nice if the designs would have at least some level of judging before being approved, there really are some hideous things to be seen if you have the option on at the moment, it's not making the game a lot prettier.

As someone who does Custom Clothes designs in all way i must say there should be a limit on the way you do the clothes, but not limited on the number of clothes you do. As you can only change the color and (through adding shadowcolors) try to get some knitters into the custom clothes the idea that all clothes need to show what ground for what cloth was taken for it is sadly not doable.

On excample it is sadly not possible to make arm free dresses out of those beautiful tunics or armfree custom clothes on the default anymore because of the underlining 3d model (not saying thats a bad thing).

So that leaves for people who want similar things to be done to use other armor that deliver the 3d model on which it can be done. right now the best torsos for that sort of things are delivered by the leather outfit.

A solution for that would be to create a set of clothes (new tailoring goods) that have the torso features of the leather set so it could be used. only then i think you should enforce the custom clothing need show witch armor it is

I like the idea if, and only if:

1. Designs are restricted to stay within the theme of EL. I refuse to use it now because of the ridiculous things running around that totally ruin the look of the game. If I wanted sleaze, porn, batman, nothing more than thin straps as clothing, and Beavis and Butthead, I would be in Second Life. That sort of stuff has NO place here. Personally I have never for the life of me understood why Roja and Ent have allowed it. (Yes, we've had this convo before and they know I think this :P )

2. I agree that armour and capes should not be altered so as to be unrecognizable as to what they are.

3. I wouldn't mind OOC stuff for special occasions ONLY, like Halloween, Christmas, etc, but only able to be used for a limited time at the appropriate time. Again within reason though. Some stuff I've seen is gross at any time.

Now that said, there are some people with some lovely custom creations and we have some very talented artists, most especially Roja. I would love to see some real customs that meet strict guidelines and quality control and provide us with a larger variety of clothing.

Yup, I totally agree with that. It's one of the reasons I don't have custom clothing on. Some custom clothes were simply silly and didn't fit in EL.

I think we should limit it to guild related custom artwork as long as it doesn't completely hide the stock artwork and still fits in EL.

Seems to me the best way to implement it without messing with immersion would be guild/personal crests placed upon existing items, so you can still see what specific item they are wearing but it is personalised. (This service existed before but wasn't used much due to the old unofficial stuff?)

Or maybe custom cloaks could have some effect that doesn't effect PK, so it doesn't matter if people don't know what it is. (Don't ask me what, no ideas for that :P)

Personally I'd give a lot for a custom power saving cloak :P :P Just 'cos it's like the only one I use (for most of time).

2. I agree that armour and capes should not be altered so as to be unrecognizable as to what they are.

My custom torso ( expertly done by someone who hasnt posted here yet ) is a full body tribal tattoo on an Orchan. Quite fitting for such a race and tattooing has been around for millenia. However , its done on the Augmented Torso as this is armor I use most but as important its one of the only pieces of armor that fits the contours of your torso without odd sleeves or shoulder spikes

I would happily pay a few bucks to have my custom tatts on an official server , as long as it is approved, however I think some leniancy has to be made as to what armors can be used. The Augmented armor is not for PK , and would serve no useful tactical advantage in PVP/PK should you disguise yourself as even a bright red chile pepper while wearing it.

I'd agree with Aislinn here.

In my opinion altering armour pieces and capes with random stuff might influence PKing (though, I'm not a PKer). For the simple reason it will be difficult to know what other fellow PKers are wearing and will not be able to adjust their strategy and own equipment accordingly. For this sole reason I am strongly against making pieces of armour and weapon unrecognisable.

Such adjustments might be done in a way that would not affect the items most important features, e.g. guild logos and the like.

Certainly not when they go to PK.

The concerns related to PK are irrelevant so long as the option to turn off custom clothing exists.

Hmm indeed, just click the option off is enough to not see the custom outfits.

What I find strange though is that mainly the ones who don’t use it are making restricting order suggestions, aren’t there enough straightjackets and grey suits around us in real life? Have we forgotten where we came from? Aren’t we ( and/or ancestors ) all here on Draia not lost space travelers from different times and dimensions? From different planets with different tastes, habits and traditions?

I am a true fan of custom clothing because it adds to the perfection of the whatever virtual world that particular player is living in and adds much more dimension into EL.

Of course it is exactly like “The Emperor’s Clothes” but I feel much happier each day since I am able to wear a purple adventurers hat, matching the rest of my daily purple outfit, or to take my shirt off in a very hot cave or while wrestling lions, Draegonian male sweat, no matter how fresh, is not very attractive to most species.

It is strange indeed to suddenly see an excitingly dressed lady, a superhero or a team of Star Trek passing by, but hé it’s Draia where anything is possible for the one’s who have Custom switched on.

Being able to have ‘your dream’ hosted officially in-game for a reasonable price, is in my vision a very big step towards this game, perhaps one of best updates ever for a lot of players and the developers.

O.K. here goes ...shoot me down

Firstly I have made a lot of custom clothes for lots of players and made a lot of gc from them.

I became that busy making custom clothes it was taking away my game time so I cut back on orders.

This to me shows that custom clothes are EXTREMELY popular in game and ALL various designs are popular.

This is a game we play to enjoy and custom clothes is an important part of that enjoyment for a lot of players..

The designs are chosen by the player concerned and I always show for approval.

Different players obviously choose different designs because they LIKE THEM!

I have no problem with *official* custom clothes being available, but I believe any change to *unofficial customs* would be wrong.

Theres a saying *Live and let live*

Dont take away someones enjoyment of the game just because you dont like them, just turn them off.

I never pk,d ,but I know its part of the game...SO ARE CUSTOM CLOTHES!!

Well thats it,go flame me lol

Excellent post, I can only confirm with what you are saying, the custom outfits are made in complete cooperation with and as requested by the clients, in most female requests the keywords are sexeh, glamorous and in case of armour impressively feminine. Being able to make some dreams come true takes indeed time but gratitude received is always well worth it.

Um no, it's not. If Roja wanted superman and see through clothes or no clothes or playgirls on capes or thin belts as an entire wardrobe, she would have made it official and it would have downloaded with the game. What comes with the game as you download it "is part of the game". And last I looked, this game was NOT set in Metropolis or Hugh Hefner's house. The game was designed and created by people who have a vision of what the environment is supposed to be and surprisingly </sarcasm>, they made it that way. And most people came here because they agree with that and want that too.

This reminds me slightly of the quote: "Your rights end where another's begin."

We came here to play a medieval game with elves and dwarves, dragons and armour, set in a medieval world. That is what EL is presented as and advertised as, and what we expect when we enter.

If somebody's online gaming experience requires Superman, bunnies of the female human sort, and repulsive TV cartoon characters, they are either in the wrong place or they need to make their customs visible ONLY to themselves.

Obviousy there is a large potion of E.L. players who dont agree with you,or else why would there be such a large market for them!!!

They have been an unofficial part, and as you can see by the posts, there are a lot of people that don't want some of that crud in game.

Keep in mind that having official custom clothing will not remove the unofficial, so those wanting unofficial can still use it! This is about official approved designed.

I think you miss the point.

Just because people use them doesn't make them part of the game.

People download and use macros too. Are those part of the game?

The custom clothing is unofficial. They are not on the official server, they are not downloaded with the game. People are required to state they are unofficial and not part of the game if they post screenshots with people wearing them.

They are not "part of the game". If they were to become so, there would have to be quality control and an approval process, because Roja and Radu will want to know and control what is going out labeled "official Eternal Lands". It will be part of them.

True, with a #beam command and a Scotty perk and NPC's talking about laser weapons and rocket tech and whatever.

I know, from where those thoughts came, Archimedes' ancient weapons, Leonardo da Vinci and such, but you can't deny, that the game has some references to Star Trek.

And a leopard quoting Iron Maiden songs :P

I tend to agree with Nardo and grud.

Though however it goes, there'll still always be the option of using unofficial custom clothes servers, which as someone mentioned earlier, will probably evolve to include the content of any paid official service and then have additional customs... so any of us who don't care about maintaining a G-rated medieval feel can just use those.
