Ubuntu/Debian Linux packages for 1.9.0 release

Recommended Posts

The Ubuntu/Debian packages for the 1.9.0 release are available to install. In fact there were available yesterday but have been updated to include the minor fix for 3d mark maps. These packages are not the playdeb version but the ones available from the link on the download page.

If you wish, you can defer these updates until the main game server is updated. If you upgrade now then you may experience a few map glitches such as waking into holes or not being able to enter some buildings. These issues will be gone once the game server is updated. Do not report these errors unless you can confirm they also exist on the test server. Report such issues to the appropriate forum threads.

If you have only every installed the standard release packages before, you will be offered the upgrade next time you update your package lists. Just install as normal.

If you installed the eternalland-cvs package then, again you'd be offered the update but will also get a message about having to remove a package. Follow the instructions and let the package manager to it's job removing the eternalland-cvs package as there is no 1.9.0 version of that package yet.

If you installed the eternalland-rc package to help with testing (thanks!) then you will not be offered the update automatically. You will need to go to your package management tool and select to install the release packages. The package manage will automatically remove the -rc files.

Please post here any package management issues with the packages but do not post general bugs here. See the above note and report issues any in the normal places.

I've noticed that recepies dont work.

They arent saved when I try too save them for later use ?

They should be saved each time you store a new one. Check your error log (~/.elc/error_log.txt) for messages. Make sure you can write to the settings directory (~/.elc/main/) and that you have write permissions to the recipes file (~.elc/main/recipes_<character name>.dat).

A common problem with permissions is where you have used sudo to run the client - which is not necessary or advisable. This can leave your files non-writable by your normal user. If you have done this it can be fixed quite easily. Open a terminal as your normal user, in my case "paul". Substitute your username for paul (this is one case where you do want to use sudo!):

sudo chown -R paul:paul ~paul/.elc/
