I think it mentions in error text about el.exe ? dont know if that helps? are there any common faults like this ! or am i doing something wrong? as far as i know im up to date on drivers.. The "microsoft error report message" (or how it's called) means that the game is crashed: 90% of the times, you can fix this updating your video drivers. If that doesn't work, but you manage to get to the login screen, click the "Settings" button and enable Poor Man (in the Details tab).

Also, would be helpful to have some more details about your system, like what video card you have and what drivers version are you using.

Im having the exact same problem...I have the mobility Radeon 9600 driver and it is up to date...yet the error message pops up almost immediately after executing the game

There is another way to enable poor man, however this would require some computer proficiency to ensure that nothing is inadvertently messed up in the process.

1) Locate a file named el.ini (in my documents\eternal lands\el.ini

2) Make a backup copy of this file, in case your changes break something

3) In the file, you should see a line as follows:

If you REALLY have a VERY poor machine, try to set the next variable on 1
#poor_man = 0

Change the second part to

 #poor_man = 1

This should disable some of the video features which may be causing you problems.

1) Locate a file named el.ini (in my documents\eternal lands\el.ini

main* :P

(EDIT: I should add; the following step works on Windows XP, i expect will work on Windows 2000 and Vista, probably doesn't work on Windows9x/ME)

If you're having troubles finding this file and opening it in notepad, instead you can just click your 'Start Menu', click 'Run...' and copy exactly this into the Run box:

notepad.exe %USERPROFILE%\My Documents\Eternal Lands\main\el.ini

...then click ok.

You'll be in notepad with the correct file open, then continue with Asgnny's instruction.

Thanks for input but im afraid the game crashes on loading screen still. Ive a Radeon 9600 series video card drivers are up to date (no more to look for on their drivers site). Ive tried the 'Poor man' option that didnt work either im afraid. My system should be able to handle this!! so im assume that i have some other conflict in system or ill need a new comp & card?

cheers R.

Is there more after that in error_log.txt? please post if there is... because so far the log shows nothing wrong

(other than a profile location issue, but presuming the 'failing over to server: main' works, that wont be why it's crashing.

Probably the standard 'broken drivers' issue.

What is 'standard broken drivers issue' please?

There are many buggy Video Drivers out there that crash EL, which is why the first thing people with problems should do is go to the video card mfg site and download the latest drivers. The ones from Windows or shipped with cards are often broken. Sometimes you actually need older drivers, but you can only learn that by trial/error or doing lots of searching.
