Having a couple of Oz Git members in (TC) I would say they would be happy for 1K pings - normally they complain about 5-7k pings.

 

Stupid idea poorly conceived, badly planned and from what I see of the discussions impossible to implement.

 

Strange though - over here in the UK we have GCHQ which does exactly what this is meant to do but without the dropping of packets in realtime for every phone, internet and satellite connection and my pings are rarely as high as 30ms.

You know that even me typing both those words has triggered the monolith into finding out all about me - my family, acquaintances, work history, full list of websites visited from every ISP I have been on, my bank and credit card history.

Yes I know I suffer extremely from long ping times,

 

and yes this is a world of "big brother" so that part doesn't overly bother me, it's the electronic age you can find out practically anything about anyone if you try hard enough.

 

I guess it's the whole "freedom of access" part, if people wanna do the wrong thing, let them, and then let justice be brought upon them - don't punish the regular joe for the irregular ones...

I don't mind the "good guys" checking all connections i made and going through other info about me... But today it's really hard to know who are the "good guys" and who are the "bad guys".

Also, i don't think that the info which is gathered is secured enough, that would be the reason why i don't like this idea.

If this would be implemented in my country, i'd go for a VPN connection for sure (ofcourse the VPN server would have to be in other country).

1k Ping is Impossible to PK/Fight with, that split second could lose you a rosto, get you broded/boded etc etc, 5-7k pings? tell them to stop downloading.

Even with 450-500ms ping PK is not great.

 

At that ping, if there's lots of ppl PK'ing and a few summons sometimes my health will be over 200 and then suddenly drop to <50, and i get resyncs.

 

Only when my ping is 330-350ms can i say PK'ing is 'fine'.

I access EL through satellite internet. Due to the way packets are sent and received and latency with satellite internet, my ping is always over 1k. It is quite possible to fight with over 1k ping, i can assure you.

Thankfully they have now seen sense and the page is unblocked. Groups like the 'Internet Watch Foundation' are just over-sensitive and are almost certainly made up entirely of 'concerned parents'. Worrying about your children is completely natural, but adversely effecting other peoples lives in a bid to 'protect' them is ridiculous.

 

If a few serious crimes are committed each year by what are probably already severely disturbed people, because they played some game or watched some video, then some people will happily ignore 10s of millions of serious crimes committed if freedoms are retracted. these are the truly disturbed people and any society that would let them have their way is a pitiful one indeed.

 

Like Labrat said a lot of things are monitored in the UK and i don't like it, but there is very little censorship and child pornography is pretty much all that is censored which is fine with me since a child cannot sensibly be seen to be able to consent to such things.
