Sayre Report post Posted November 18, 2008 Some bots speak locally when you walk by. Is this permitted? If so, is there some sort of limit? Cheers, S.

LabRat Report post Posted November 18, 2008 Like all things ingame there are limits. Not hard set limits per se but what you would consider spam for a player is spam for a bot too. On my bots for example I don't allow announcements when a player comes into view as this can get spammy fast. My bots do congratulate players when a good harvest event occurs (blessing, found a stone, bag of gold etc) but not on negative events (pickaxes breaking, damage etc) which a couple of players find annoying but in the main I get a large number of players commenting on how much they like the feature. If a bot I host gets spam report and I am informed of it I will disable the player greeting in local for that bot and inform the owner. Better a quiet bot than a locked one. Cruella Report post Posted November 18, 2008 Occasionally near Calliope, when lots of people harv in PV, preferebly on increased harvest events day, it gets very spammy Congratulations on positive event once or twice is enterrtaining, however dozens of these might be annoying. Mar(c) Report post Posted November 18, 2008 Most local comments by bots are very repetitive and serve hardly any purpose (besides wanting to be heard/known -- and thus being annoying). Greeting owner(s) or their friends:This can get very spammy if the bot does it every time the player comes into sight.IMO, limit it to one greeting (per player) per in-game day, max. Congratulating on any (positive) harvest events:This may be fun for a few minutes, but like majestyk and Cruella say, it gets annoying very fast.IMO, limit it to only rare events, or don't comment on harvest events at all. New hour messages:If people want such a message, they can enable it in the client. In general, if it's not coded with spam prevention, I say don't let the bot say anything at all. And the less purpose a message serves, the faster it will become spammy/annoying. Hourly time-stamp: log continued at 2008-02-23 16:50:56 localtime (W. Entropy Report post Posted November 19, 2008 Yeah, that's true, it is annoying, and it is actually against the bot rules, but so far I just tolerated it. I guess we can have a poll or something if bots should be allowed to do that.
Ateh Report post Posted November 19, 2008 (edited) Yeah, that's true, it is annoying, and it is actually against the bot rules, but so far I just tolerated it. I guess we can have a poll or something if bots should be allowed to do that. would that be a poll for bot owners only ? or for everyone ? *edit* cant remember bot name exactly but it was in NC somewhere, at one point would actually shout at you some random item it had when you walked past, kinda crazy , almost felt like shouting back sometimes but .... yeh Edited November 19, 2008 by Ateh

asgnny Report post Posted November 19, 2008 LionsGuild only greets LION members and is not in an area where many people congregate. I doubt anyone has felt spammed by him. A decision on this should be "allowed" or "not allowed", imo -- it's far too subjective to decide which areas are popular enough, or how many people are allowed in a guild roster before locally greeting all guildies is considered "too much". If a guild wants to permit PM's from their own bot while walking by, then so be it, but why make others in the area suffer through a screen full of spam? Guest Trojan_Knight Report post Posted December 19, 2008 Imo I think a bot should remain quiet "publicly" unless spoken to / used. Or in such event like lab has stated, where those that are in, for example. A silver mine and a player finds some type of stone. We all know the players are going to mass send msgs. So a bot in this case, imo should be "ok" to say "Congrats, now sell to me muah ha ha.." for example. But just people passing by I think is a different story. Because yeah sometimes random events do repeat one after a another (only seen this myself once happen three times in a row in a very positive manner while harvesting with a large group long ago).. But its not happening every minute of every hour of everyday. just my 2 cents.. hf ~~> me <~~
