Harvest exp. limit resets only if player is on at new hour

Recommended Posts

Players should be able to be offline as a new game hour begins and have their harvesting exp limit reset. It's really annoying to reach the limit one hour, quit the game, start the game, and find that my harvest exp is static...

Thanks,

They made a movie about that once: Fiddler on the Roof. But the thought of Entropy strutting around singing "Tradition...." is a bit much for me.

Unless there's a technical reason, we could change the harvest thing....

There is a technical reason, Ent is lazy to code this :)

But it's holiday time after all :P

I thought that was on purpose. (Think I remember an old discussion about it from a couple years ago).

And doesn't it still let you start your harv exp after the half-hour mark if you've logged on after the start of a new hour? I think it does.

Whether or not it's a tradition, it's still a bad thing. Tradition shouldn't get in the way of progress.

Would it really be that hard to code? I don't know enough about programming to make a game like EL, but it doesn't seem like it...

I disagree. If progress was the most decisive factor, we'd have a character wipe right away.

You're a new player, that's not your call. Some of us have been around for years, and it doesn't bug us. Get used to it like the rest of us.

Well i'm around for quite some time and it still bothers me each day to see I get no exp when I log in. So don't speak for everyone plx

While yeah it's an annoyance, it also prevents players from logging in and out to continually gain exp. now I can assume that a preventive measure would be coded into the game in that case, but it won't stop people from swapping computers if they have more than one and working with a different IP.

It's really no big deal in the end, you lose a max of maybe 6k exp if you have a bit of rationality built up and are mining ti ore, nothing too serious in the end.

TheComet: Logging off and back on doesn't reset the harvest counter. Only the new hour does. This isn't to change that, only to make the new hours count if you're offline, which I'm all for. Would allow me to close EL overnight if I know I'm going to get experience when I log in.

I have only been playing EL for a month or two, and by now my overall xp is arround 3.3 mill out of witch almost 3 mill comes from Harvesting.

When it comes to gc I have probably made and used arround 50k in the game. Out of those most have been made harvesting while not gaining any xp.

The main reason for this is the harvesting limit of 120 items.

In this game the fastest way of gaining xp for new players is harvesting. By the time I had gained 2 levels in combat I had gained 10-15 in harvesting, this seems a bit strange. OK I am not the that much of a fighter, but still.

What I would propose is that the 120 item/hour limit is removed, and the xp gained from harvesting is lowered drastically. First I would halve the base xp and then make the xp gained relative to the harvest level. The actual xp gained should then be from 10% to 200% of base xp. The formula could be something like:

base+base*(RecL - CurL)/100

This should maybe be capped at 5 or 10% and 200%

I know this is a verry old system, and that it carries lot of tradition to some players but I still think it needs changing.

When we are talking about the begining your right about you will get faster levels by harvesting than fighting, but from a lvl, the best for oa is a/d aka fighting. And the only thing that might be a bit anoying is that thing when you log on and no xp for harv. I learnt to live with it:)

I think that nothing have to be changed in this system, it is perfect with a little flaw, but even the greatest diamond on the earth is flawed :P

Oh I live with it, as a matter of fact I have learned to use it to my advantage, I still think it should be changed. As it is now I harve for xp, gc, or ingredients, never all tree at the same time, witch to me seems plain stupid.

But it will most likely not be changed. So I won't press the matter.

change the max experience harvests to 180? For example i harvest blueberries for 49 xp per harvest, thats 5880 harvest experience per hour. If it was 180 it would be 8820 per hour.

Now lets factor in the xp it takes for one harvest level. It takes around 100k harvest experience to get level 40 harvest, thats 17 hours of harvesting at 120 cap, but only 11 hours at the 180 cap. Those 6 hours of my life can be put to much better use at a small price to pay to the game. Having a 180 cap wouldnt affect the economy very much even as unstable and undefined as it is, maybe dung will be cheaper. Harvesting alredy is a very common skill to have at high levels so it wouldnt alter the general stats of players very much. The only negative impact might be on the fact that you are also gaining Overall experience quicker (At lower levels harvest is good for this).

These changes are even less dramatic as you go into the much higher levels of harvest where it requires millions to gain ranks, this would save players many many hours that they could be doing stuff like DIEING at invasions, or dieing while raising their attack, or PKing [to get items out of the game] (Entropy :D)

But, how much of each hour is actually spent harvesting?

Look at it another way, whether 120 or 180 harvs per hout give you exp, you will spend about the same amount of time harvesting to get the same amount of exp.

and the time per hour not harving can be used to gain xp in other skills...

...unless you're one of those ppl that afk their character in tree mushies while they're at work...

nah! no one would do that :D

Well actually lots of people harvest like 90-100 relative fast items, and then switch to dung for the remainder of the hour, while at the computer, but not actively playing.

Or when playing: drop everything at the beginning of each hour and rush to the nearest harvest spot with an appropriate level, harvest 120 items, dump (or store them if there is a store close by) them and go back to what they were doing.

Why is this? The 120 item limit!

The only way to avoid this is implementing a different way of limiting the harvest xp.

Edit: forgot to mention that lots of people store everything and stay logged in afk'ing while they are at work or during the night to make sure they get their 120 items-xp when they return to the game.

It would be nice to have the limit removed, but then it would be way too easy... So I'm against it, specially if that would mean a decrease of xp per item.

Anyway, I agree with the first post. I don't log out very often, so this doesn't affect me that much, but more than once I had connection problems like 5 minutes before the new hour and only managed to log back in after that. So I think it really is annoying that you have to wait for hours when you log in just to get harvest xp again.

Changing it so that every new hour resets the limit for everybody would be nice and I believe it wouldn't be that hard to code.

I'm all for it.
