Is anyone else getting errors about not being able to open sound configuration files on Windows XP?

I also get crashes at offset 000470c7.

Sorry I can't come up with better info than this.

I was told that my posted problem already had a solution posted in another thread. After reading what I think is every post and thread on the subject, I am still unable to find it. It's possible I have missed it in the sea of threads on the client or may not have recognized a posted solution as applicable to me. Here is what I have done so far:

• delete EL folder in my documents
  
• uninstall EL
  
• reinstall EL
  
• change el.ini to disable frame buffers and disable all eye candy and high end graphics
  
• update video driver
  
• turn off sound and do not try to install sound
  

after the latest reinstallation, my system froze after logging on and playing for approximately 1 minute. The error log contents follow. If there is a solution already posted, I really apologize, but I tried to be very diligent in finding it, without success. If the specifics of the location of the solution could be posted or a cut and paste of it here, I would sure appreciate it. I'm trying hard to be responsible about finding a solution to the problem

I spent some time in-game with Ozmondius and I'm happy his config is all OK, the errors shown are just because he has not installed sound this time. We tried a few other things but could not prevent his crashes. It's looking like a graphics card/driver issue but he has the latest drivers (a mobility radeon 9200). The crashes tend to be more frequent when inside and panning around. The obvious change in the client that could effect this is the CLUSTER_INSIDES, apologies grum. I can't build the windows version but is it worth producing a test version without CLUSTER_INSIDES to see if that is the issue? Or at least a version with the fix grum now has for the know bug we think we have trapped in the release version?

 

 

Does he have the Omega drivers? If not, he should try them.

 

i'm having a similar problem with the 9200 graphics card but i cant seem to find any omega drivers compatable with this series my specs are

 

cpu: intel celeron 2.80ghz

ram: 512mb

graphics card: gigabyte radeon 9200se series

edit: i just get client window open then usualy i have to a minute thats fine but i had a white screen there for like 20 minutes

You will have to manually disable the sound, by editing the el.ini from your configuration directory.

yea i just sort of figured that bit out sound works fine for me btw

the reason el wasnt started was winamp was conflicting

sorry for being a noob but the random crashes are still quite a pain hopefully i can try and resolve the issue as it seems to be with the vidio card i use

Some people have issues with the sound, and they crash every few minuts. Try disabling the sound and see if you crash again.

I get these logs even after going into the el.ini and diabling eye candy framebuffer thing fancy smoke sound and music and so on.. and even enabling poor man.. so any help at all will be appreciated.

Edit: Instead of doing the Microsoft thing, I will try to d/l the Omega driver again.

 

I d/l'd the Omega driver, the driver it defaulted to was Mobility Radeon 9000. I have the 9200 but decided to give it a shot anyway. After the installation, my laptop screen is not working properly--it appears to be flashing and mostly unreadable. The external display is fine. I will try EL using the external monitor only. Maybe there's some setting I can change so that both displays work properly again. I tried changing the refresh rate--but it didn't work. I'll keep experimenting.

 

Edit: Ok, my experimenting caused a critical error and blue screen of death. I'm done with the exeriment, lol

 

I will wait for further guidance and try to install on my desktop in the meanwhile.

Next, I read http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati.php that the lastest drivers won't support mine nor your graphic card so I went with v3.8252. Happy to report that so far so good, game is working fine for me now. Just wondering if you updated the right version.

Or, probably, it is just a matter of switching stats in HUD on again (which isn't default right after installing - and wasn't before either iirc). Options -> HUD -> Stats in HUD

I got as far as turning, what was it? the frame buffers off, turned off sound/on poorman/off eye candy (the ' 0 ' '1' procedure) like I've been instructed to try. I'm running, as far as one can tell with limited p.c knowledge, on the same specs as (I've just forgotten the guys name, which is handy.....) the_wanderer, that's the bunny, close enough for Jazz as far as my missus can work out, and I still encounter the same fault (el.exe genertaed a fault close it down....)per instructions. What I can't grasp is this part about changing the direction, or where the game is placed, or however is to say it in technical jargon, I don't get how I can change where the game's going to sit, where would one find that option? Also, the 'change the (forget the word) like Mozilla, etc? how do I do that? Also, and I guess this is what one most wishes to know, will there be an easy soloution to this in the form of a cyber-elastoplast for p.c ow! ow? As, well, as I say I don't understand.

(EDIT) destination. That's the word I was searching for. So, is it when I'm about to install the game and I have the option of 'destination folder' that I need to re-route it somewhere else? If so, where would I nudge it in the direction to? Thanks, btw, and sorry for the dimness.

Ok, I have XP, and had a problem with the sound. I was stupid and unzipped the sound files into the Music folder. I did not take long for me to figure out I had to move them up one folder, to the EL folder. This could be some of the problems people are having with sound.

 

I had

program files/Eternal Lands/music/sound

changed to

program files/Eternal Lands/sound

What he is asking is the exact location, for windows it should default into

 

C:/program files/Eternal Lands

 

Sense you do not have an english version of Wndows, this might be part of your problem, I am not sure. But look for your Eternal Lands folder, and please give location like I have it typed

I may be about to really embarrass myself here....but......do I have enough space? It says I need193.7mb for the game and I have 13.7gb available. Now, I've said before I'm no p.c wizard, is that enough space?

*Laughs* Ok, ok, let me revise my last post....I AM a pc dumbo. I don't know what that is (video card, etc). Will installing one of the 'mirror....thingies' make the needed change to enable play? (EDIT) Ok, tell me this, and again, pray excuse my ignorance in this matter, I'm not trying to be difficult here, just a talent I have, I guess. If I delete then reinstall what do I need to delete? If I delete the main game on my pc (desktop) will this not mean that I lose everything? I've tried to download the other mirror (the one with the joystick) then turned off the pc and tried again with the same (non) result. Confused in Antwerpen!

 

 

Ok, now go to start, find the "control panel", click on it, find "System" click on that, then "Hardware" then "Device Manager" open that, Look for "Display Adapters" That should be your Video Card. IF you have anything under Display Adapters, Post that here.
