neildog Report post Posted February 11, 2006 The record has been broken at least 3 or 4 times since the start of the New Year... I guess we can only take this as a sign of EL's increasing popularity... Can only be a good thing

Cormaher Report post Posted February 14, 2006 The ingame stats are not so accurate because they include the player owned bots too. The real record is on the website, and it includes only the humans, and currently it is 598... So, I'm not counted because I play an Elf?!? Seriously though, great to see that EL is increasing in popularity. I personally know some people who recently started playing EL because RuneScape didn't appeal them anymore. So much for the cooldown-debate, huh? MMORPG's are increasing in popularity overall, and there is a trend of leaving the main games from days past (WoW, RS) to new, fresh games with active development and updates (GW, EL). I'd love to see more people coming to Draia! (but I'd hate it when that means there will be more servers)
trollson Report post Posted February 20, 2006 So we broke the 600 mark for real yesterday! woot. I came on line and the first think I saw was Roja's announcment of the record -- so I could have been #600 (or pretty close). One thing I did observe last night, which slightly concerns me: For that session the server seemed a bit jerky, with occasional noticable delays in responsed (upto ~15s). I did ask around at the time and no one else seemed to be experiencing this, though I was doing a repetative grind, which would highlight any such problem. Otherwise I had a good ping time (30-35ms), and no noticable network issues. Could just be a coincidental fluke?

We current have a record of 645 players as seen at the bottom of http://eternal-lands.solexine.fr/~radu/online_players.htm. We've monitored the server and any jerkyness you were experiancing wasn't from the load or the network traffic, there is a lot of spare cpu capacity still and nowhere near any bandwidth limits. I was also playing when we hit the cap and I saw no lag at all, so it must have been something else, maybe some lost packets via your route.
RolandR1 Report post Posted February 20, 2006 hehe i wonder if we will ever reach the server limit
Cormaher Report post Posted February 20, 2006 Since the new update, I experience some lagging too, and blamed it on the server... maybe it is the client instead? My network-connection is also nowhere near it's limits, and AFAIK I have no packet-loss either...
Entropy Report post Posted February 20, 2006 hehe i wonder if we will ever reach the server limit Not likely, we've experimented with increasing the limit to 2K with pretty good results (so far).

Cormaher Report post Posted February 21, 2006 honestly, I fear for the day that we need two seperate servers... complete split of the community... *shrudders*
Infamous Report post Posted February 21, 2006 wouldn't be such a big problem if you could switch between servers
Learner Report post Posted February 21, 2006 We have plans and ideas for that, but remember that the current server is significantly slower then modern systems, and with 480 players and bots connected we are only using 14% of the CPU capacity. Things also look promissing for being able to handle over 1k players on the current machine as well.
