scafativ Report post Posted January 26, 2006 It would be interesting and useful to have a ring that teleports you to where it was made. That would make it possible to teleport anywhere. Of course this would be a ring that only very high level crafters could make. I also don't imagine that it would bring you across continents. It would only work on your current continent. Technically, it would be challenging. I don't know if the architecture allows for items to have an additional fields. If so, a map number / cartesean coordinate could be tagged onto the item. The user would be able to discern between various possessed "Universal Teleport Rings" using the eye icon. Each location type would use up one of the 36 inventory positions, and one of the 300 storage slots, so hoarding of different locations would inherently be discouraged. I don't remember seeing this idea before and couldn't find it on a search, so if it has been made, my apologies. scafativ
Atlantis Report post Posted January 26, 2006 Been suggested a few times before, I used the terms teleport and ring
Gen_Axis Report post Posted January 26, 2006 Yep, it was.... but how about: - there is small chance that while making ANY kind of teleport ring you will make 'teleport ring' without description/destination (in name), which (when used) will teleport you to RANDOM choosen by server map ? (something like first version of teleport nexus )
trollson Report post Posted January 26, 2006 Random TP ring is more feasible. The 'return to maker' ring would be a unique object, and EL doesn't handle unique objects very well (ie. not at all!) There could be some similar effect if there was a two-part spell; first casting 'marked' the location, the second TP'ed you back to it. That way the location would be a tag on the character, not on an item. Whether there could be an item involved or not is upto the designers (something worn, medallion, when used activated the spell, if removed cancelled the pending spell). Ghrae Report post Posted January 26, 2006 What about a Teleport to Portals Room Ring? This would overcome the unique objects issues that the game may have. The ring would have a fixed spot in the Portals Room it took you too (basically a location on a map just like all other rings). And from there you could easily get to any map. Could be popular for people with low magic levels and those who are using their mana for fighting (i.e. if a fighter died, he could run to the closest storage, grab a ring, jump back to the map in order to gain revenge on the beaver that killed him!!!!~1!) Acelon Report post Posted January 26, 2006 If anything, a portals room ring should be an enriched version of an TP ring.
Atlantis Report post Posted January 26, 2006 If anything, a portals room ring should be an enriched version of an TP ring. I agree, but iirc, Ent wanted the room to be for magic only, but maybe he changed his mind
Vanyel Report post Posted January 27, 2006 I like the Gen_Axis's idea (the tp to pr ring is nice too). It would be really funny if after using ring you're getting kicked straight to the KF
Tordek Report post Posted February 2, 2006 I would suggest another kind of teleport ring. This would work on any map and when used you have to select the spot from the map where you want to be teleported. Maybe there should be a magic spell also, with similar effect. This way the rings wouldn't be unique items, still you could go anywhere...
Atlantis Report post Posted February 2, 2006 I think that ring would be way too strong, it would probably have to be an enriched version of another Teleport Ring, and not a spell :-/
Tordek Report post Posted February 2, 2006 I think that ring would be way too strong, it would probably have to be an enriched version of another Teleport Ring, and not a spell :-/ I don't agree with you. There would be no point having this item to be that rare. Who would use it then? Who would say, "Eh, now i'm too lazy to take a walk, instead let's use this 5k worth ring..." So it's better not to have it than have it as an enriched version of another... Well, this is just my opinion...

And you want it to be common? I don't think that would ever happen. At best case, it would be a rare event ring. And as you said, for a teleport, why would you use a 5k ring. So probably won't happen at all.
