Market channel

Recommended Posts

I'm curious about the rules for the market channel. Are there only three allowed approaches:

1. Buying

2. Selling

3. Price check

This doesn't seem like a realistic market to me. People DO discuss prices on a real market, both sellers and buyers.

I'm asking about the rules, not the enforcing of them.

I'm asking because a mod flamed me (first making me view the GAME rules for 1 minute, then claiming I don't think while playing) when asking about discussing prices on channel 3, and if there were official rules for channel 3.

there are also related things like hiring people

discussing/arguing prices is probably semi- off topic. off topic stuff is allowed provided it doesn't get spammy, there hasn't been a lot of off topic recently (it was previously spammy), or is getting in the way of trading

should a mod feel that things are starting to get out of hand, accept that. mods can make mistakes, but they're trying to keep things running smoothly, which is not an easy job

if you disagree with the actions of a mod, talk to another one or aislinn about the situation

There is always channel 8 if you want market and discussion at the same time, but generally 'discussions' are frowned upon as they can and often do dissolve into repetetive arguments along the veins of 4gc is too much for a flower! No it's not it's fair! No, it's a ripoff. Everyone, now STFU!!!! Why? we're talking about the market here?

THAT's why it is not tolerated.

11. Stay On Topic In Named Channels.

Channel chat needs to be about the subject the channel exists for. The conversations should not derail the purpose of the channel. Resulting consequences are at the discretion of the moderator(s) in the channel.

The purpose of the market channel is for people to buy/sell/trade things and get price checks. As Kiri stated, discussion as to fairness of price, or supply and demand is just derailing that purpose and quickly gets out of hand. If you want to chat and haggle and discuss EL economics, you can chat about it in another channel such as 4 while you buy/sell on 3. If all else fails, you can always pm.

Every player thinks their conversation is on-topic and appropriate. Almost every player argues the point when asked to go back on topic. It is up to the moderator there to keep things under control. And yes, market is the strictest channel we have.

Side comment: I am curious what is wrong with being shown the rules if you ask what the rule is. That IS why we have them ingame now.

Um... I sad I asked if there were official rules for channel 3. Not official rules that goes for all channels. Banning a user (you can't disagree that's what it is) for 1 minute is a pretty mean punishment for asking a question like that.
