Update test 3...

Recommended Posts

Oh. Sweet... Can't wait. :P

I would test and report bugs, but my friend said it could make you lose character info if you didn't install properly or something, so I'll just sit by idly as everyone else does it. ;)

I don't know if this is a bug or a feature but when I open the map and try to map walk to somewhere far away (like the lakeside docks to grahams) the game lags for a second and I don't go anywhere, the red X doesn't appear either.

There are still CVS directories in /actor_defs, /docs, /languages/*

Grayed out names if you're active in another channel is not working entirely correct (first entry sometimes doesn't gray out when it should, or does when it shouldn't).

Channel number isn't logged in chat_log.txt ([Marc @ 1337]: ...)

No font type 2 available for name/chat.

Ingame windows:

* for Buddy, Help and Statistics it looks like the position isn't stored to (or retreived from) el.cfg.

* Statistics window is shown when in map/console mode.

ELconfig window:

* Help text with Saving Ignores says it saves _global_ ignores list on exit -- must be _local_ ignores.

In el.ini:

* #compass_north directive has been swapped? 0 = pointing to north now, 1 = pointing into the direction you are facing...

* #sound_gain and #music_gain are still at 100, while it's using 0-1 range now.

* #log_server is obsolete (replaced by #log_chat)

(Mind if I rewrite/refresh this file a bit?)

[in test_2] Unicorn animations are a bit buggy (sliding instead of walking). I haven't been able to find her in test_3 yet...

Confirmed, the client crashed earlier (test 2) when i try the mapwalker from tyrnim exit on WS map to grubani exit, now you cant even walk there and must click somewhere near grahms.

I would call it more a feature then a bug. IMHO not a showstopper.

There is no #text_filter_replace box in ELconfig window.

Tabbed chat / chat window:

In tabbed chat mode on channels 1, 4 and 1337:

[ All | Server | Newbie Channel | General Channel | Channel 1337 | Local ]

Switching to chat window mode looks fine, but after switching back to tabbed chat mode:

[ All | Server | Newbie Channel | Channel 1337 ]

To chat window mode:

[ All | Server | Newbie Channel | General Channel | Channel 1337 | Local | Channel 1337 ]

And back to tabbed chat mode:

[ All | Server | Newbie Channel ]

It doesn't change what channels I'm actually on btw...

After leaving 4 and joining 1000, the window mode doesn't change the tabs (still a General Channel tab...)

Entropy created the version 3 test without a patch I had just installed in CVS to fix that problem and reduce lag when the destinatino is unreachable. If you can compile from CVS, it was fixed before you even downloaded the newest test.

Well for all of you who can't seem to keep the cat in the bag, the second continent is SUPPOSED to be off limits and not open for exploration yet. If your posts are being deleted, and you are stopped from going there, did it ever occur to any of you there is a reason???!!!

(Re-posting and wording it a bit better so as not to break rule 25)

Everything I tested seemed to work, and it was fun seeing the new creatures and wearing a coon-skin cap. However, I noticed that you can't sell skunk or coon skin hats at gen stores (intended?). Also it was sort of dissapointing to search so long for the second continent, just to be told that I wasn't allowed in :( .

But all in all it seemed to work fine, and the graphics ROCK!

Edit: Forgot, the Magic temple's door is still one-way.

Edit: Got fixed.

Your friend was mistaken.

You will not have your old el.ini settings, but all of the character info is server-side.

The test server DOES use diffrent characater files, so you will have to create a new characater there.

Okay. So if I have never downloaded a test file I can just get this one and run it without doing anything?

195220[/snapback]

Yep, Those of us who did the others all deleted the old files when we put this one in anyway. Just download this and go.

I am probably not the only one who noticed this but I did not see any other posts about it here so I am just wanting to report this small but important (at least to me) bug.

The Key Pad Does not work durring log in.

I think it also does not work during gameplay, but some people said theirs worked.

Now mind you I dont know programming but I know how to enable or disable num lock and that was not the issue.

Thanks

Should all the new buildings on the old maps be able to be entered?

Minor typo:

In ELconfig, the Show Reflections help text says "Toggle the relections".

Cleaned-up the test_3 el.ini, major changes/remarks:

* grouped by ingame ELconfig tabs (but in a bit more logical order imho)

* if this is gonna be used for more test install packages: #server_port has to be changed to 2002 again

* removed #log_server (since we have #log_chat now)

* #mod_chat_separate: also in the official distribution?

* #sound_gain and #music_gain both set to 1 (was 100, which initialized sound and music to 0)

* all clipped to 80 chars per line

* dunno if the el.ini in the test_3 package contains the preferred initial settings?

Only directives that start with a # are taken in consideration, anything else is
treated as a comment.
For the directives that accept a boolean value (on/off), 0 is off, 1 is on.
For the directives that accept a string value, use quotation marks if there are
spaces (otherwise spaces will be stripped).

!!!WARNING!!!
Make a backup of this file, before messing with it. In case it gets corrupted,
the game might not start at all, etc.

-----[ Server ]-----

Login settings:
#server_address = "eternal-lands.network-studio.com"
#server_port = 2000

Having a username and password defined can be a security problem. Use only if
you are comfortable in people that can get to you machine knowing this
information.
#username = ""
#password = ""

Log setting. Set to 0 to disable logging, set to 1 to have only chat and PM's to
be logged (to chat_log.txt), set to 2 to have also server messages to be saved
to chat_log.txt, set to 3 to have only chat and PM's to be logged to
chat_log.txt, and have server messages to be saved to srv_log.txt:
#log_chat = 2

-----[ Video ]-----

Set to 0 to have EL running in a window (it will use the desktop BPP), set to 1
to have EL running full screen:
#full_screen = 0

The video mode you wish to use:
 1  =  640x480  16bpp
 2  =  640x480  32bpp
 3  =  800x600  16bpp
 4  =  800x600  32bpp
 5  = 1024x768  16bpp
 6  = 1024x768  32bpp
 7  = 1152x864  16bpp
 8  = 1152x864  32bpp
 9  = 1280x1024 16bpp
 10 = 1280x1024 32bpp
 11 = 1600x1200 16bpp
 12 = 1600x1200 32bpp
#video_mode = 4

Do NOT turn on the shadows if you have a low end machine, and/or if you are
using a 16BPP mode. 16BPP modes on old video cards (up to GF3) do not support a
stencil buffer, so having shadows will make the game unplayable.
#shadows_on = 1

If you want to use some better quality shadows, enable shadow mapping. It will
use more resources than the old shadows, but will look prettier.
#use_shadow_mapping = 1

Set to a higher number (max. 4) to have a better quality of the shadow maps.
It will look better, but also consume a lot more graphics memory/resources.
#max_shadow_map_size = 1

Set to 0 if you don't want fog to be rendered:
#render_fog = 1

If you REALLY have a VERY poor machine, set poor_man to 1. You will notice a
drastical drop in quality (no reflections, no clouds shadows, and the texture
filtering is set to NEAREST), but you might get a performance increase. It is
highly discouraged to turn it on, tho.
#poor_man = 0

The reflections can now be turned off without using poor_man (set to 0 to
disable reflections):
#show_reflection = 1

Enable (1, default) or disable (0) isometric view. If disabled, perspective view
is used:
#isometric = 0

Setting this to a non-zero value will throttle EL back only when it's grabbing
far more CPU time than it really needs to render a scene smoothly. This
shouldn't affect slower systems at all, as they need all the CPU time that they
can get to render nicely.
#limit_fps = 0

-----[ Advanced video ]-----

If set to 1, shadows will not be disabled automatically if the frame rate is too
low:
#no_adjust_shadows = 0

The clouds' shadows are projected on the ground, and the game looks nicer with
them on. There is a small (about 10) speed penality if you let it on, so you
might want to disable them if you have an old video board.
#clouds_shadows = 1

Mipmaps is a texture effect that blurs the texture a bit - it may look smoother
and better or it may look worse, depending on your graphics driver settings and
the like. It might also improve performance. Set to 1 to enable mipmaps:
#use_mipmaps = 0

Some systems will not support the new point based particles in EL. Set to 0 if
your client complains about not having the point based particles extension:
#use_point_particles = 1

If you experience a significant slowdown when particles are nearby, you should
consider lowering the percentage of particles that are displayed (set between 0
and 100):
#particles_percentage = 100

If you have a LOT of memory, you can set use_vertex_array to a number greater
then 0 to increase performance. This works well in crowded areas, but can use
130M or more of memory. Not recommended for machines with less then 384M of
memory, 512M of memory is suggested for this feature. The higher the number, the
faster a system needs to be. If your system lags when lots of characters/animals
are near, then consider lowering the number.
#use_vertex_array = 1

If you wish to use a feature that we are currently experimenting with in CVS
called Vertex Buffer Objects you should enable the following option. In many
cases it has been reported to increase the performance with 10-50%, so it is
definately worthwhile if you have a newer graphics card. However it has also
been reported to cause crashes on a very limited number of computers (less than
1%) so we suggest that you try it out, then figure out if it is crashing your
computer or not - if it does, you should of course disable it again.
#use_vertex_buffers = 1

When set to 1 try to work around a possible bug in the Ati drivers that return
an incorrect value when reading the depth buffer. This setting only has effect
in the 32bpp video modes. If you use a newer driver you should not have this
problem even if you have an ATI graphics card. You should only set this if you
believe you have a problem.
#ati_click_workaround = 0

Set to 1 to have a nice semi-transparent border around the windows:
#use_alpha_border = 1

Set to 1 to have floating/fading messages (experience gain, level gain, health
gain/loss):
#use_floating_messages = 1

The degree of perspective distortion (higher values mean heavier distortion).
Default value is 0.15.
(This option has no effect when isometric view is enabled.)
#perspective = 0.15

The distance of the near clipping plane to your actor. 1 means draw only objects
in front of camera - this may look odd if the camera is inside or close to an
object. Default is 40, which should not clip anything visible.
#near_plane = 35

How bright your display should be (lower value means darker, 1 means no changes,
higher value means brighter):
#gamma = 1

-----[ Font ]-----

You can adjust the size of the text used for the players' name tags and the chat
text. A value of 1.0 is the default, and you can make the text bigger or smaller
by raising or lowering the values:
#name_text_size = 1
#chat_text_size = 1

Reserved for future usage:
#name_font = 0
#chat_font = 0

-----[ HUD ]-----

Set to 0 to disable showing the FPS (frames per second) in the corner of the
window:
#show_fps = 1

Set to 1 to show the digital clock:
#view_digital_clock = 0

Set to 1 to show your stats in the hud (only works in resolutions > 640x480):
#show_stats_in_hud = 0

Set to 1 to enable tooltips (help text for buttons):
#show_help_text = 1

Set to 1 to be able to relocate your quickbar (ctrl-leftclick to attach/detach
the quickbar, shift-leftclick to swap between horizontal and vertical quickbar,
and ctrl-shift-leftclick to reset the quickbar):
#relocate_quickbar = 0

Set to 0 to have the compass needle pointing to the north, set to 1 to have it
pointing to the direction you're facing:
#compass_north = 1

-----[ Chat ]-----

When windowed_chat is 1, a tab bar is drawn at the top of the screen which
allows you to select the different types of text messages. When set to 2, all
raw text messages (local chat, PMs, mod messages, etc) are drawn in a separate
dragable window instead of on the upper left corner of the screen. When set to
0, all text is drawn in the upper left corner of the screen.
#windowed_chat = 1

Set whether local chat, guild chat and game messages (either from the server or
the client) will show up in different tabs in the tabbed chat or chat window
(when set to 0), or to have a separate tab for it (when set to 1):
#local_chat_separate = 0
#guild_chat_separate = 1
#server_chat_separate = 0

For moderators, also moderator chat can be separated:
#mod_chat_separate = 0

Set to 1 to highlight chat tabs when someone mentions your name:
#highlight_tab_on_nick = 1

-----[ Audio ]-----

Set to 0 if you do not want the engine to use any sound (this is usually useful
for when you don't want the EL client to take over your sound card, or if you
have sound problems that might crash the client):
#no_sound = 0

Set the gain (volume) of the sound effects and the music (0 means muted, 1.0
means full volume):
#sound_gain = 1
#music_gain = 1

-----[ Controls ]-----

You can increase the mouse sensitivity and cursor changing by adjusting the
mouse_limit to a lower number, but usually the FPS will drop as well!
#mouse_limit = 15

Set the mouse click speed (the time in milliseconds between 2 clicks) that will
be handled as a double-click):
#click_speed = 300

The following two directives are for configuring the camera rotation speed, when
you press left/right arrows (normal_camera_rotation_speed), or shift+left/right
arrows (fine_camera_rotation_speed). Increase for a faster camera turning speed,
decrease for a smoother animation:
#normal_camera_rotation_speed = 35
#fine_camera_rotation_speed = 5

Set to 1 to prevent your character from moving by accident when you are sitting:
#sit_lock = 0

Set to 0 if you don't want the inventory window to be opened when dropping
items:
#item_window_on_drop = 1

-----[ Misc ]-----

Set the idle time (in minutes) before the client will go AFK (when set to 0, the
client will not go AFK automatically and you'll have to set the client AFK
yourself):
#auto_afk_time = 5

Set the default AFK message (max. length 127 characters):
#afk_message = "Automessage: I am currently away from my computer, plertretrtret"

Set to 1 to enable ignoring the people on the global ignores list (people that
are well known for being nasty):
#use_global_ignores = 1

Set to 1 to save the names of the people you #ignore to your local_ignores.txt,
so they will be ignored until you #unignore them:
#save_ignores = 1

Set to 1 to have the words on the global filters list (a list of words that
people have found offensive) being replaced by the one set by
text_filter_replace:
#use_global_filters = 1

Set the following text to whatever you want filtered words to be replaced by:
#text_filter_replace = "smeg"

Set to 1 if you want to filter extreme caps usage:
#caps_filter = 1

Choose your language. All languages available are located in the ./languages/
folder in your eternal lands directory (the languages are however easily
extendable and if you wish, you can translate the client into your language by
editing the files found in the languages directory):
#language = "en"

Set your favorite browser (so you can visit the last mentioned url by pressing
F2). Note that, because of Micro$oft's infinite wisdom, invoking a command is
done differently in Win9* and in Windows NT ® ©.
 For Windows NT/2K/XP:
  #browser = "start iexplore.exe"
  #browser = "start firefox.exe"
 For Win9*:
  #browser = "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
  #browser = "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
 For Linux:
  #browser = konqueror
  #browser = opera
  #browser = mozilla
  #browser = netscape
#browser = "start iexplore.exe"

When set to 1, the client will check for settings that are not in your el.ini,
or that you have changed during the game, and store them in el.ini. It does not
store your password, so if you want that changed in el.ini, you will still have
to edit this file. (Also note that changing this setting by typing
%write_ini_on_exit 0 in game will obviously not change it in your el.ini.)
#write_ini_on_exit = 1

Set to 1 to get noticed of people on your buddy list logging on/off:
#buddy_log_notice = 1

This option is currently only available on linux, and allows you to specify a
directory other than the current directory to load data from.
For Gentoo users, the ebuild installs in /usr/share/games/eternal-lands.
#data_dir = "/usr/local/games/el/"
