ttlanhil Report post Posted May 10, 2005 there was recently a poll as to whether the ants should come back, i think most people were in support of them. if there's an issue with them wandering around the already crowded IP, that's something you could ask learner to deal with

They are trying to find how to get off of the map and to their Ant Hill currently.

I remember this a while back (last year!), when people complained about bots, and the ants in particular. Learner Report post Posted May 10, 2005 Any way to show them how to get off the map a little quicker 160839 Some people have been able to guide them by dropping bags in a general direction. Once they are near the boatthey should try to teleport out (once they decide to click on the flag). Once one ant has teleported off, as each ant gets 'near' the trail off, the trail will lengthen back towards beam slowly.

Placid Report post Posted May 10, 2005 I can see it now:"here ant, come, ant, come get the nice bag! follow me to this PK map..." 160845 They did used to wander to PK maps IIRC, and it was quite funny to see what they had in their inventory. Learner Report post Posted May 10, 2005 [Jeeze, these things are seriously clever Being an AI experiment, they have to do and learn as much as possible on their own without things being 'scripted'. They have basic desires and response plus randomness thrown in to give them their reality. They only respond to what is immediately around them (the local 3D map, not the full map) and their collective memory of animals, people, and places. Once one ant learns something, all the others know it instantly. I can see it now:"here ant, come, ant, come get the nice bag! follow me to this PK map..." 160845 They do that all the time, and sometimes it works! Learner Report post Posted May 10, 2005 I believe it was 160849 Yes, but the need to level up a little bit more or people should at least give them a chance to heal up before they kill them. Last December for a while the Anthill was in Lucky Punch! When they are on a PK map and you attack an Ant, you'll findout if they know it is a multicombat map or not

Placid Report post Posted May 10, 2005 Very cool, it's kinda brought back some memories if im honest. I remember when they were swarming EL and people complained, thats why I found this thread so amusing. Very freaky about the multi-map stuff, but if you think about it, its all quite simple. This sort of information is sent to your client in every packet, so it's just testiment to the programmer I suppose
ttlanhil Report post Posted May 10, 2005 erm... the two ants online are still wandering the IP campfire, shouldn't they have explored away by now?
Learner Report post Posted May 10, 2005 I just had to wipe their memory of the underworld and IP indoors. It was confusing them on IP. That means some Ants will be lost in the underworld until they discover the exit again, but the Ants on IP should find the boat a lot sooner now (stats showed they stuck around beam too much). Learner Report post Posted May 10, 2005 Just to show how important the Ants are: Learner, how much of the Ants' code can be tranferred to NPCs? -Lyn- 160878 Once they can trade more intelligently, they would make interesting NPC's for the Wandering Merchant suggestion for instance. If I could get them to use books more intelligently (yes, they can read) then we could look at letting them also do things like trade for essence ingredients and sell essence as well. I've also been looking into enabling movement logic into Prattler for the Wandering Bard role, but he'd need to learn where the Taverns are (currently they can't tell a tavern apart from a cave). But, Prattler needs to be more selective on his gossip before I enable him again. He could also use a 'song request' feature. And, do you think WSC could use city guards? That is one of the few towns on the map where I think guards would make sense, Portland possibly as well.
Captain_Smile Report post Posted May 10, 2005 LOL ants memories memories. I use to murder ants in Arena, and did I get plate ? no. I got 200 fruit per kill
Aislinn Report post Posted May 10, 2005 City guards would be nice, but I'd rather they didn't look like ants Out of curiosity, how many ants are there now? (saw somebody mention ant_49)
Learner Report post Posted May 10, 2005 I created 100 Ants, but only a limited number run at a time. The reason for that many Ants is to reduce impersonations and to provide a broader base for a variety of levels for testing. As for Guards, they don't have to look like Ants, we were talking about possible ways that the Ant code could be used in the game. Of course making them guards isn't helpful unless they can initiate a PK on a non-PK map.
