  1. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

I think all it would take would be to modify widgets.c around line 786 where: I have started looking into it. Might make a button option in the options dialog for it if this truly is the culprit. Stay tuned. Okay, I have made a quick hack for the MacBook users. Download only for MacBook users with integrated Intel Graphics Download the above file and unzip it. Find your original EternalLands app, right-click on it, and select Show Package Contents.... Then, place the new EternalLands binary into the old Contents/MacOS folder. If this works, then I will look into making a cleaner build (having rounded buttons as a working option). Initial testing (on wife's MacBook) is promising.

For the benefit of others, here is the relevant part of your crash log: Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000000 Crashed Thread: 0 Thread 0 Crashed: 0 com.apple.GeForce8xxxGLDriver 0x170e037c gldGetTextureLevel + 739724 1 com.apple.GeForce8xxxGLDriver 0x170e15c3 gldGetTextureLevel + 744403 2 GLEngine 0x16f023ae gleDrawArraysOrElements_VBO_Exec + 1950 3 libGL.dylib 0x93d14aa4 glDrawElements + 52 4 net.0ctane.EternalLands 0x0014a691 cal_render_actor_shader + 1101 It is hard to know if we should blame Nvidia or EL for this one right now. Are you in a specific location when it crashes? Are you near water? What do you have the "Water Shader" setting at?
  4. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

I have been playing on a macbook for quite a while and I think I understand the problem now. The Intel integrated graphics openGL driver has a bug that causes this crash when certain features are used at the same time. Most applications dont do this and thus there is no problem, and this is probably also the reason why Apple and/or Intel havent provided a fix yet. The EL client normally does not use the problematic features, except when drawing the rounded buttons like the ones that are on the manufacture window, the spell window, the statistics-counters window etc. So as long as you dont have any of these windows open the client works like a charm - open any of them and the client will crash sooner or later. I had a look at the source code and it seems to be quite simple to make a quick-n-dirty patch by having the "rounded button" routinedo the normal square buttons instead, but I am currently unable to verify this as I do not have the development environment set up. If someone with a devel environment would care to give this a whirl I would be happy to hear from you. If you send me the location in the code, I will take a look. This would make a lot of people happy.

Looks like a nice little machine. Can you send me the crashlog via forum PM? Should be something like: /Users/your_user_name/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/EternalLands_date_stamp_computer_name.crash
  6. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

Just wondering if there are any news on that one? It's bugging me too... But fortunately I still have an iBook for mixing Nope. Cross your fingers that 10.5.7 or 10.6 will fix it.
  7. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

Can you send me the crash log via forum PM? It is found in: /Users/your_user_name/Library/Logs/CrashReporter Also, do you see any error messages in the error_log.txt file that seem relevant?
  8. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

Hiya Enly. I too noticed a paste crash yesterday, but it was not consistent. You can send me the crash log via forum PM, and I will take a look.
  9. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

no i didn't DL it as it was all winamp ogg files etc. so i didn't bother. Actually, ogg is an open format. All the sounds and music should work just fine. I tested them on a PPC Mac a few years ago. The atmospheric sounds are kinda nice. Personally, I don't use them though.
  10. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

    32. Macs pretty much always use 32 bit now-a-days. The alias.ini is nothing to worry about. This could be something to worry about in addition to the unknown sounds. Have you installed the sound and music packs? It might be that the OpenAL sound system is getting overloaded when you are in busy places and fights. There could be a delay too, if OpenAL is trying to still process events stuck in a buffer. Pure conjecture. Now, make sure you have the EL sound system (music and effects) turned off, restart the game, and go fight somewhere. Let me know if you get more hangs. I know it is inconvenient, but keep at a low resolution for now. If everything is fine for a day, up your resolution.
  11. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

16 or 32 what? This most likely means you are looking in the wrong place when navigating with the Finder. As I mentioned in the first reply, you need to look in your Library folder. There is also a system Library folder which is not the same thing. The system library is located at: /Library Your library is located at: /Users/whateveryourloginis/Library Now that we have clearly identified that you do indeed have a Eternal Lands folder within Application Support, you should be able to find the error_log.txt file inside. Anyhow, let me know how you do after an hour in a busy place both with and without sound & music.
  12. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

Progress. Yeah, that post was only slightly more informative than saying, "I cannot play the game". At least you started by telling us the hardware you were using. I doubt you will get a resolution to the problem unless you start taking my suggestions. Unless you test the possibility, you will not know the answer. Now, after your character has sit around doing nothing in isolation for at least an hour, go somewhere busy (IP beam for instance) and again do nothing for an hour. If you get another crash/hang, turn off the game's sound system and repeat the "doing nothing". Yes, this can be frustrating. You will miss out on a few precious harvest hours. Now, I want some more information. Open the Terminal application (can use Spotlight to find it). In the terminal, please type the following command and tell me (as in, copy & paste) the output. ls ~/Library/Application\ Support/ Include the typed command in your copy&pasted reply please. If you follow my advice, we will hopefully be able to determine if the problem is audio or video related.

  14. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

You are asking to get free help for a game that is free. Deal. I have more tolerance than Entropy but not much more. So, I will try to help you once more. Don't amend a post to something more ridiculous. Periodically and randomly but at a consistent rate? Sigh. Set your resolution to 800x600. Login. Go hide in a building. Log out. Log back in, go to console mode, and start a timer. Don't do anything (this includes typing). How long does it take to hang? I will ask again. Is this your computer? Is this other person experiencing hangs on the same computer? Is that with your account or their account? Do you have administrator rights on the computer? Post the first 25 lines.
  15. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

If it hangs all the time, it would be difficult to login. Well, what resolution are you trying to run at? Eye candy? Poorman? Do you know why you don't have permission? Is this your computer? Are you trying to run EL on some sort of minimal account? An "Eternal Lands" folder should definitely be created inside your Library's Application Support folder. This is a problem with Spotlight, not EL. Open the Console program. You will be able to access the Crash Logs from there. Then don't have more than one copy.
  16. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

This is a bug that has been plaguing MacBooks (that have integrated Intel graphics) since the 10.5.5 update and EL 1.7. I have looked into the problem a bit, and I don't think there is much we can do. It seems to be entirely related to an update in the graphics drivers that occurred at 10.5.5. Florian and Fedora, care to weigh in on this?
  17. Macintosh OS X client 1.8.0 bugs thread

sywren, Can you tell us that type of video card is in your iMac? You can get this info from the Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info... -> Graphics/Displays.
  18. Macintosh OS X client 1.7.0 bugs thread

You are posting to a general bug report thread, so you need to be a little more specific about "this". Also, this thread was for the 1.7.0 release while we are now on 1.8.0. Finally, "this" bug (assuming you are talking about the MacBook Intel graphics crashing) has not been fixed. As I tried to explain to some others via PMs, it seems to have more to do with Apple updating the graphics drivers than with EL. Short of removing all text from the game, there is not too much we can do. When the game crashes for you, you should send a report to Apple saying something like, "This problem appeared after the 10.5.5 update and only affects MacBooks with integrated Intel graphics". Is there a new 1.8.0 bugs thread yet? This thread should probably be closed (after someone links to the new one).
  19. OSX update

No love for me? Enly is correct. The disk image (dmg), just like a hard drive, has a limited size which is determined when it is created. Essentially, it is full, and you cannot write anything to it. You need to copy the contents of the disk image to your hard drive if you want to modify the contents of the package.
  20. Game crashes

There do seem to be resizing bugs. This is frequently seen on the Mac build of the game. While a bit of a hassle, you can set the screen size at the main splash page before logging in to you character. This might help.
  21. RC3

By less responsive do you mean slower? We have some updated textures that are bigger, so that might slow down some low end video cards. Definitely not a video card issue. Radeon 1600 and Nvidia 9400M. There is just a delay between clicks and actions. Ping seemed fine. With the full release we will have another Mac-specific thread for bugs. Anyhow, I have to assume that you are on a Mac that uses Intel integrated graphics. This is a known bug with the Intel graphics drivers as of OS X 10.5.5.
  22. RC3

RC3 Mac OS X build available here. Game seems a bit less responsive. Built on a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.5.5.
  23. RC2 Windows binary and Linux/OSX data

Okay, I have a Mac 1.8.0RC2 universal binary build available. You can download it here.
  24. RC2 Windows binary and Linux/OSX data

    That would be me.
  25. EL 180 RC

I have uploaded my build of the Mac 1.8.0RC client on my website. It contains all the resources (except sounds and music). It was built on a MacBook, OS X 10.5.6. To use the test server, download the 1.7.0 client and use the included ChooseELServer app. This is described on the EL download page. I will update my EL Mac music instructions in a bit, but they are mostly correct. (I am away on vacation currently) I should mention that the 10.5.6 OS release does NOT fix the known manu crash for MacBooks with Intel integrated graphics.
