  1. Pets implementation

Good idea up to the manufacturable part: you make the price high to keep it limited so as not to affect server performance. However, it "could" become a manufacturable item. I see your performance problem arising very soon if this happens. Let me please state my case: Since EL essentially has but one type of coin(gc), the value of that coin is pretty well diminished. Everyone has complained of the broken player's economy. Many items in the game have fallen far below any type of reasonable value. Money sinks have been implemented to to try and drain so much of the gc from the game, and so far without much success. If these pet eggs become a manufacturable item, competition in the marketplace between players attempting to make the sale of these eggs will significantly drive their cost down increasing the amount of players who now have pets, and ultimately degrading server performance. If you keep this idea and product an NPC only item and keep the price high, you will achieve keeping these pets limited to those players who have the gc to buy them. That only leaves you with complaints from players who have a sense of entitlement.
  2. Active Hyperbag "Treasure Hunts"

if you wish to look at it in the context of a "company" and "economics" ("... to all make money, ..."), then that can be further extended to defend bag jumping and hyperbag "finding" in the following regard: players of EL don't work for just a single company. indeed, they work at 1000s of smaller companies (by themselves or as a guild or team) and all of those 1000s of companies share the same infinite resources, yet are in competition with each other in the economic arena. thusly, the quicker one gets product to market, the faster one turns a profit. in the interest of corporate prosperity(free market economies are, after all, based on the idea of self interest) and growth, it would only seem to be in a company's best interest to acquire resources as quickly, cheaply, and efficiently as possible. if someone else has already been considerate enough of your bottom line to have prepared a bag of resources/product for pick up, and it doesn't violate the "law", then the company's only moral obligation is the interests of the shareholders. please note i'm not advocating either of these activities. i, myself, fall in the camp that feels both actions are wrong for ethical reasons(as have been stated:the items/goods in bag were earned by another player). just wanted to point out that oftentimes using analogies to illustrate a point can often back fire.
  3. Request for Derath of LNX

Thank you very much. Your kindness this day shall not be forgotten.
  4. Request for Derath of LNX

Hello all. I come before you today to plead the case of my guildmate Derath, whom is unable to post here on his own for reasons unknown to me other than he has registered here, validated and has yet to post successfully to these forums. It seems my guildmate was recently struck by an IP ban, not of his own accord but simply for having an IP address handed to him by his service provider Time Warner Cable and the DHCP services they provide. An address that has made the blacklist: 71.72.129.70 . Therefore, dear moderators, I stand before you and ask that you whitelist my guildmate's username, Derath, so that he may not suffer a punishment not meant for him. Your wisdom and understanding in this matter is most appreciated. Thank you, Algorn of Guild LNX
  5. Latest CVS compile issue

thanks...so i've been sitting here pulling my hair out for nothing then
  6. Latest CVS compile issue

hi everyone. i have spent the past few hours trying to compile a static binary from elcvs (gotten from cvs on 05.13.2007) and i have searched the forums and googled and googled and googled until i am ready to scream and start pulling hair. I apologize in advance if there IS an answer to my problem and in my own stupidity, have failed to phrase my seacrh terms correctly. i put "etch" in quotation marks as i am running some testing repositories in apt as well as kernel 2.6.20-1-k7 (i spent 2 weeks alone just trying to get the nvidia kernel modules to finally compile(don't ask)) and i am pretty well certain i have the necessary dev files installed(at least i think). in my elc directory for the cvs source i did: ln -s /usr/lib libs to hopefully provide the needed libs. i run make -f Makefile.linux static and get this: 7. Tankel

Maybe you guys should just consider "using" the damaged stuff til it breaks...and you can get it broken for free instead of paying tankel to break it faster. in fact, i'd say you probably make more gc on the damaged stuff by using it in a damaged state.
  8. sorry to be so late in answering this: but, in answer to your question Entropy, to make the taskbar the color you wish for your theme, you will need to open the taskbar configuration and enable background images for the taskbar, and choose the provided images for the taskbar background. the easiest way to make the start button look like winXP's is to install kbfx and choose an xp theme for it. as far as the windows however, that particular theme of which you speak has always been somewhat problematic with the window decorations. i have only successfully installed it once and like a dumbass i didn't document how i did it .
  9. Newbie Video: How Do I Eat?

who does that song and where can i get it? it rocks.
  10. Unfortunately, Debian has gone to xorg as of the licensing change in xf86(i'm xf86 4 life). now, to continue in the spirit of this thread: i settled on knoppix for my workstation pc (i prefer NetBSD for my servers) after trying redhat for a few years(god i hate rpm package management systems X( )and then mandrake/mandriva(i quit mandrake right before the mandriva fiasco). i chose knoppix because, well, i was lazy and didn't want to spend an hour getting a desktop up and running(knoppix takes 20 minutes to install to hard drive and is up and functional upon reboot). however, if your laziness extends to the point of NOT wanting to learn new stuff, well, hell, give up living then since life is always about learning and bettering one's knowledge of the world around them and how it functions. i know many, many people who are more than happy to just take life at face value and never investigate the mechanics/dynamics involved. this complacency, my friends, is how tyrannies of the most vile sort arise. this complacency, my friends, is what has allowed microsoft to deem how you will use your computer, your property. now, i will say, Linux distros aren't for everyone and i dread the day Linux, in it's current incarnation makes headway into the mainstream and onto Average Joe's desk at home, for it is this Average Joe who will be calling my shop every 5 minutes with an issue because he hasn't taken the time to assess whether Linux or Windows meets his need because all he has seen is the difference in price, and not the differences in costs (in essence, he's trading saving money by investing more of his time understanding how his system functions and learning how to install software packages. while he has made a financial savings, his investment of time has more than doubled, so has he really saved anything? and if his domain is not computer configuration and repair, then is this investment of his time a worthwhile investment?) if your reason for wanting to switch to linux is because you are weighing it against the forthcoming, ever-more-bloated, ever-less-functional latest and greatest marketing triumph from microsoft, the only thing i can say is suck it up and stay with windows 98/2000/xp/vista/WindowsWhatever. however, if you want to learn more about how standards-compliant systems(as in following POSIX standards and established networking standards that aren't hooked with Genuine Proprietary Goodness), you want to maintain control of YOUR property and bathe in the fuzzy warmness of a software license that actually encourages you to share software with others, then please, by all means, try linux. and, as an aside, i know some of you guys just "have to have" that one game that you can get to run under WINE, but please consider this for a moment: if you want the application landscape to change and offer you a choice of what OS you would like to be able to use an application with, please considering NOT using it under WINE in Linux. when you use WINE to run that game or office suite, you give legitimacy to the concept that software developers can dictate to you how you should use your system(ie: "we would rather you used windows and we won't support our software under WINE in Linux"). This gives credence to the claim that "no one uses linux and no one is asking for our software in native linux binary format". i have managed to wean myself from using windows software when i have a choice in the matter and believe it or not, i don't miss many of the over-hyped games and applications from $BIG_SOFTWARE_CORP. as it is right now, when i have customers ask me if there's something they can use besides windows, i tell them to buy a mac. when they complain macs cost too much, i then ask why they complain about the cost of windows. i won't even tell them about linux at all. why? when you boot a system and it never makes it to the desktop because it is so overloaded with viruses, trojans, and adware, you realise that not only are they incapable of running linux, they are far from being able to keep themselves from engaging in behaviours that led them to bring me their machine in the first place. now i realise that this post may come off as somewhat elitist, but please understand that this is not my intention. I see alot of these "is linux right for me?" posts all over the internet in variuous forums of sorts and my only reply is "if you have to ask that question, it isn't right for you then". but if you know for sure that proprietary software, licenses that impose restrictions upon you, and having control of your property taken away from you is not right for you, and you're willing to invest some time into learning, then perhaps linux just might be whatt you're looking for. walk in peace.

You guys owe me no thanks. Summoners have always been my best customers and for that i indeed owe all of you my gratitude. Thank you, every one of you.
  12. Cant play cause update?

actually, that's the windows motto. we don't seem to have such issues with *nix.
  13. So, what do we think about the new changes?

i think alot of people count on those vials.
  14. Wolframite bars

well let's price this out shall we?(i'm going with the formula given) it takes one steel long to mine one wolfram ore therefore we have 10 wolfram ore which requires 10 steel longs@500gc each the 1 serp stone @ 300gc and 30 FEs@3gc ea(90gc) so we have : 5k + 390 = 5390gc for one wolfram bar so if anyone is willing to pay more than that for a wolfram bar i don't have a problem with the cost of serp stones going up.
  15. Wolframite bars

well, given that nothing else in the update has any logic to it, why would this have any?
