How about make it a trade? Hand in say a MOP and receive the ings to mix that potion. If you hand in 30 MOP then you get ings for 30.

I'd suggest a default channel to send text that the user can choose. For instance all text would be sent to GM (if you selected this as your default) unless the @ symbol was first used. Using just the @ before text would send to local. At least something along this line.
