  1. Is this normal?

I personally broke 21 pickaxes on coal tonight, whats the question again?
  2. Manu quest special prizes

will be a long long time before i get the nexus back to start manu up again, but looking forward to it even more now.
  3. EL Monopoly - The Bored game

Ok, so I was prompted by flibberty to suggest this and have expanded the idea a little in order to try and give you folks a clue what it might entail. Basically, sites like: http://www.hasbro.com/mymonopoly/ and: http://www.tdcgames.com/MYO.htm offer the chance to have custom made monopoly boardgames. There's also popularity with doing these as corporate gift sets, movie and cartoon versions, and also cities around the world have their own versions these days too. Basically, I'd like to think of an EL version, where you can "Go to the Underworld, Go directly to the Underworld, Do Not Pass Isla Prima, Do Not collect your harvesting experience". Map names can obviously replace the usual street names for the original version, with some custom made board peices as the player races (and perhaps Bob the goblin or Lenny too). A campsite token can replace the house token, and a plastic rosto token (with mother of pearl glazed finish to complete the detail) can replace the hotels. Instead of charging someone rent when they land on "your spawn" you could say you bagjump them for X amount instead (depending on what currency you'd have. exp or gc). Replacing the normal monopoly event cards with ingame events works too, with "You successfully created an Enriched Fire Essence" replacing "Bank pays you dividend of 50 bucks". Going back 3 spaces = "servercrash, you had a rollback" hopefully you get the idea by this point and no doubt more will be added in the replies to this, but basically, the main issue against having this might be licensing...anyone of a legal turn of mind that wants to set Radus mind at rest and let us know if he still retains the rights to the EL names despite it being a boardgame instead? And...whaddya think, would you buy it? (to get accurate info, please also mention if you'd buy or have got the original or some other custom monopoly game already too, when you post). I know for certain I'd get one if it was available. The biggest drawback I could see would be that it encourages us players to actually do an activity that doesnt involve being online!!!! OH NOES!
  4. Speed Hax Day

OR since it's been mentioned that a side effect of the special day originally posted by your good self could encourage the sale of speed hax potions, then its also possible that the negative day would do likewise too, no? I am sure game balance will be considered by the devs, whether we have a negative day or not, before they consider implenting the good variation, if at all.
  5. Speed Hax Day

Not missing the point at all, we're expanding on it to include a possible negative day in order to further increase the likelyhood that it might get implemented. Feel free to look at other special day threads to see why this is more likely to happen now, than if just the original special day idea was on here. As to constructive critique about why it might not work, the only thing that might cause a problem would be potential lag and grue issues caused, as I imagine everyone on speed for the fully 6 hr day would be quite taxing to the server. But that's a guess. If there was some feedback as to whether it IS the case, we'd have a better idea on whether it might get in or not, til then turtle I suggest you accept our postings as supportive of your cause. After all, if Learner, who is one of the developers, makes a suggestion to compliment your own, I would personally see that as a pretty good sign.
  6. Speed Hax Day

I disagree, i think theyre pretty much the opposite in general terms even to those of us who are goons, and am perfectly willing to speak up on their behalf.
  7. Real Life Imitating EL

Ummmm...thats not an impression of its "face"...thats the other end and where did u think he got the less-than-polite nickname of Assgnny from anyway?
  8. Cooldown Cuisses

I'd disagree. Whilst it might be inefficient on low end alching, for example, using fp with a chance of cooldown removal on barmixing is quite a nice little incentive to wear them, and I can think of a coupe of different special #days where it would be good to have this item handy for mixers. Would it also be possible to do this the other way around too, and bring the arti cape into the combat skills side? Increase the chances of a special item used in combat to trigger its effect by the % given by artificer cloaks? I am sure its use in this manner would not only be popular to those who have the GEWD STOOFZ but would also help to reduce the numbers of arti capes around these days.
  9. Seasonal Promotions and Incentives

Marvellous Idea. As a sidenote, perhaps we could also tie this in with the speedhax day suggestion and couple it up even further with ryddlers raffle draw day too. Radu could also give out full day 10% off shop price discount (not cumulative with coupons, but instead of) for that day to maximise both el shop sales and ryddlers fundraising exposure. Three birds one stone. nice one spart.
  10. AP increase and decrease

Just bring in a new arrow/bolt to cover the different aspects of ranging. Arrow/bolt of fluffy pillows: Has reduced armour peircing capabilities due to the head being made from a mixture of cockatrice feathers, white fabric and cotton. Half damage calculation based on a hit, as per a training arrow, but chances to hit have a negative on the AP in the calculation. Since these would be mix-only items and not available from NPC I would suggest the price range be higher than training arrows on market. I'd also think they would be less accurate than most other arrow currently available, since wind sheer/aerodynamics would reduce accuracy to a great extent (who said we cant bring some physics into it??).
  11. EL & Player Generated Narrative

A small but possibly significant point is that there's also contests based on the game environment too. For example, there's currently a hyperbag contest in Events, with clues to the bags locations in the form of rhymes, based on terrain and npc information. So it isnt just currently generated narrative but also guided future narrative that is created on occasion. After all, if the contest causes people to change their normal routines then planning the contest in advance guides a players personal narrative towards something they would not otherwise be doing (IE wasting keys trying to find bags they know are around here somewhere....). As for thinking outside the box, I will be more enthusiastic when I see evidence there was thinking inside (thanks for the quote mr pratchett, sorry if I buggered the wording up). over 24 hours now and only one bag found..disgraceful!
  12. New stones

OK clarification for a few points on the suntzu stone, since no one has added any yet... All EL players would get the #day if the stone was used. It ONLY works if used on an otherwise Normal #day...it will NOT work on special days already running, according to Radu earlier on ch6. As a side note, expect a few prices to rise on certain items already, it looks like all the bots have already been cleaned out of EDE in preparation for this. (Or the owners have withdrawn those items for now).
  13. 3 months of EL playing

Something tells me YOU would probably find this same perk to a guild from any/every guild you could possibly join though Ent, no matter how much behind the scenes sweatshop work the rest of em have to do while you're there. Or is Jason making you mix his fire essences? Edit: at first I was not gonna bother commenting to makuyi here, since we usually have a chat about guilds etc already ingame, but then I realised there's probably other guildless players out there who'd be interested in this thread, so... Don't let this idea of guild life being a requirement to participate in teamwork put you off. There are a lot more upsides than downsides to doing a guild session on mining/mixing/muling and even that dreaded word...pking. Sure, solo means you can stop when you like but as a team you can do quantities that are almost impossible for a solo player to do unharassed. I'd highly recommend trying out a guild or two to any new players out there, at the very least, and although picking a bad one to begin with might put you off the idea of ever joining another one, finding a good one will make you never want to leave. Just try to do a little research before you pick which guild you apply to join and have "fun" as your ultimate goal in joining one, I think that is about the best advice I could (or will) ever give as far as guild joining is concerned.
  14. "Mix all" for summoning

Actually, deliberately using a mix all button to summon 50 rats couldnt conceivably be done accidently, since, as the first few "mixes" occur, you have time to reclick the mix button and STOP it from continuing to mix, so someone deliberately doing it would be even more guilty by allowing it to do all 50 rats. There'd be no way they could use the "misclick" defence. A few mixes yes, since even the slowest reactions need time to reclick the button and stop it, but not a whole batch.....?

You misunderstand my use of the word "authority". Not authority in these forums, but authority in life, in judgement, in a higher realm, determining what constitutes moral behavior and what does not. So you're now saying I have no authority in life, judgement, or in a higher realm...? Bit of a personal observation, isn't it? Feel free to provide evidence on my lack of authority for my own opinion, which is, after all, what I have been posting here. No wait, don't bother, I just realised, I have absolutely no counter evidence. Point to you on that one. I am a parent as well with responsibility. It's somewhat amusing that you are both implying my lack of responsibility AND presuming to assign appropriate responsibility based on your decision of what that responsibility should be. I have no lack of responsibility to minors, mine or anyone else's. Actually, I implied no such thing, with regards YOUR responsibility nor assigning said appropriate responsibility TO YOU based on my own musings of morality. *See below for why that is the case* Glad to hear that you would help any minor in need of it, and since your job here will never place you in a position where there IS a conflict of morals vs ethical professional conduct, then clearly, that part in my post which refers to those in authority LIKE YOU, did not, in fact, INCLUDE YOU. *NOTE: I think this is basically a human flaw in both of us aislinn, you and I have both read each others replies here and naturally, being human and subject to personal biase towards ourselves, assumed that we WERE who the other was directing the posts at. This is not the case with my posts, for instance, I count 11 times I said the word "I" and only two times I said the word "YOU". Out of those two times, only one was a reference to you. The other was a comparative to those who had a position of professional responsibility to protect personal data, like you yourself do. UNLIKE you however, since we have established above that this job for EL will NOT put you into a conflicting role, they WILL come across it, someone somewhere. My whole posting on this thread was an attempt to point out I..ME..personally, would prefer to see a world wherein it would be acceptable to allow (without penalty to the informer) a truant child to be informed upon. You have to remember, when deciphering this moutain of crap I posted in this thread, that I am self effacing and judging not you, but myself, when I use terms like "I am a parent" and wishing ALL adults (again, not you since you ARE one) had the same feelings of responsibility towards minors that parents (generally, not specifically) are held to have naturally. I"m curious where you found me say I do nothing. (Just another example of how you not only did not pay attention to what you read, but did not understand it either.) Please do not try to accuse anyone of making you a target. You are the one who jumped into this thread bemoaning the fact that there are people like me in this world who do not have your stellar moral fiber. Final note, this quote is again evidence of personal biased, it was not in fact aimed at you, so to satisfy your curiosty, here's what I meant by posting it...and to hopefully try to redress the widening gap of misunderstanding that appears to have occured: If, using Makuyis example, we were to say that the minor in question was my own, I, as the parent, would welcome the moderator for that forum to inform on my child. (Yes I DO know that ISNT what happened, this is where I am having to use hypothesis to explain my reasoning). I would thank them for it. Not all people think like I do, I accept that. I wouldn't want people to see this post and suddenly decide to act differently because of it. I am just explaining I'd rather my kids data wasnt as 100% protected by the moderators in charge in this particular instance than them sit back like some jobsworth and say "hey, privacy laws, not our problem, you sort your shit out, we're nothing to do with it". THAT is where my quote comes into play. It wasnt directed at YOU at all, Aislinn, and if you for even a moment thought it was then I owe you an apology. Sincerely, I'm sorry for not wording it better and giving you that impression, it was NOT my intention. Nor was I moaning that there are people like you in this world, since you clearly arent part of the problem I am outlining, you have already stated you would do anything to help a minor in trouble. But from the point of view of those who, from a professional and ethical point of view, would rather sit on knowledge that could lead to truancy being stopped, instead of breaking their ethical code, I would just rather that did not happen. That's why I'd rather see morals, in certain cases, outweigh ethics. NOT 100% of the time, not a complete breakdown in data protection or privacy. JUST where it IS morally the right thing to do. And before anyone just jumps in with that previous arguement about "How would you like it if someone told your boss "etc etc, well... There is a world of difference between: 1. An employee sneaking games/forums time at work, where he potentially is risking his own job by doing so, if it is outside of breaks or any other time he wouldnt be allowed to do so. He is, after all, an adult and is supposed to be aware of his responsibilities for his own actions. Plus, any boss worth his salt shouldnt need informing, drops in productivity, KPI's and communication with the IT dept would tell him if something's amiss. and.. 2. A minor who acted on impulse, whose parents are NOT aware of his truancy, whose parents could, in some countries (like here in the UK for example) face fines/jail/criminal charges for that truancy. I know so far I have been arguing that Moral VS Ethics have been the whole issue, but it's also worth mentioning that, when a moderator, "if the issue ever arose", quotes chapter and verse of data protection & privacy laws as a reason for not informing a school of absenteeism, they ARE in fact aiding and abetting the breaking of Educational Laws. Parents are held accountable, as I am sure you will be aware, so the consequences for not informing, even though it's ethically the professional thing to do, are something any moderator should consider carefully, if they ever find themselves in that same position. Summary: I've attempted to stay away from this topic after my last post, but felt I could not leave it open with your curiosity unresolved, and my own attempts at explaining what I meant so misworded that they left you with the impression that I was targetting you as "the root of all evil". If you still have that impression, grab a cup of coffee, reread it all, and TRY to think of this as just a guy trying to explain his way of looking at things, NOT as a guy who is out to change other peoples way of doing things. You are too sly an antagonist to even attempt trying to get you to change your mind on what you'd do in a given situation, Aisy, and WAY more cynical than I could ever hope to persuade by mere text. I too am cynical though, and KNOW that somewhere out there, some mod WILL be in that situation whereby they could do the RIGHT thing morally, even if it's the WRONG thing ethically, but they wont. That is anathema to me. Simple as that. Now, I hope this explains what I was feebly attempting to say, without further disagreement to my saying it, however, since I figure it wont be liked by everyone, I will end by asking anyone who disagrees, lets agree to that. Disagreeing.

Easy there, I never implied or made pretensions to any form of authority. If anything, I said I didnt envy you of yours? And I do see your point. And understood it. I do not throw around these terms arbitrarily either, I am a parent and my role has a responsibility inherent within it. Just because I would prefer a world whereby ALL adults showed this responsibility towards minors should not make me a target, particularly when I am showing empathy for those who, like you, have a job that will at some point give a conflict between moral and ethical decision making. And as for quotes: "For evil to flourish, it only requires good men to do nothing." Simon Wiesenthal Now, since I have already been responsible for derailing the topic widely, and am in great danger of "sliding a slippery slope" to becoming a troll here, I am gonna just stop at this post on this thread, it's already gone past the point I should have had the sense to stop myself hitting reply.
  17. skipping school

fair enough. i'd prefer to live in a world that contains people who would inform on my own children playing truant, but accept the fact that there will be those who won't. vive la difference eh?
  18. Eternal-Lands first look

Did you see that cocksucker's reply to my e-mail? I think it is harder to find a bigger moron, even on the tubes of the internets. I disagree, I have every faith in the interweb and the modern moron to prove you wrong there, and expect to see bigger ones arrive any day now. Hopefully we will retain one or two of them in the playerbase, and give our current resident morons a breather. Every village needs its idiot(s), it's a tradition.

I understand your point completely, and personal information should be protected, the rights of the individual in most cases is paramount where that information and its preservation are concerned. BUT speaking as a parent I cannot condone putting the legal obligations of privacy clauses before the moral obligation towards the educational welfare of a child, even someone elses child. SO I guess, when you ask "who gets to decide" I guess it comes down to people like you, aisy, who have the unfortunate position of being stuck in that very dilemma, with all the information at your disposal, the moral weight of having to decide if a case is important enough to break the terms of your undertaking to uphold the legal requirements of your position, and the fettering of your actions where a decision must be made. It's not a job I should ever be put in charge of, because without a doubt, my moral duty towards the child would always come before my duty in the role of data preserver. I'd dob them in to the school without a moments hesitation, otherwise I'd be condoning absenteeism and using the legal privacy policies as an "it isnt my problem" excuse to ignore my responsibilities to the moral good. People who have not got the leash of privacy laws to hold them back from doing the same thing have no excuse at all, so kudos to the person who DID do the informing since it wasnt a mod/admin after all. I do not envy you your role Aislinn, even less so now this particular subject has arisen since it's entirely probable you will one day be placed into a similar situation of moral and ethical dilemma. However, I am sure you will discharge your duty with your usual tact and discretion.

Who gets to decide what is morally wrong or right? Those who wish to defend what is morally right. Hang on, would you question my beliefs if this was a religious opinion instead? I am not stating that we should scrap the whole system and change it for the other social model here, but I am convinced that our models bad sides need to be addressed, since it's evident that all too often the victims of crime don't get the break they deserve, and the guilty parties walk free. I wholly admit the opposite side of the coin would produce far worse effects to society than this, so assume that is why it wasn't the one that we currently have today (this being the lesser of two evils). It's an empathy to and for the victims that sustain my belief that our moral obligations should not be second place to legal obligations, and since it is a belief, please accept it as such, with no intent to influence others into following suit, but to enable them to understand why I believe it. Feel free to believe that legal obligations outweigh the importance of moral ones, at your discretion. edit: spelling.

The post now above, by maxine, wasnt on when i hit "add reply" sorry Aisy, didnt realise it wasn't a mod. I still stand by my conviction that putting legal responsibilities before moral obligations is or at least CAN be the wrong thing, and I don't wish to dig out proofs on defending my beliefs, in the form of evidence, but if I had the inclination I am sure there would be no shortage of material. But despite that, I respect that rules have to be considered when making those moral decisions. Isn't that why we have a "spirit of the rules" clause? After all, weren't those laws and rules and regulations "out there" all made with the intention of maintaining order in order to preserve the moral good? Basically I see it as a two headed coin, one side has the option to "allow 10 innocent people to be hanged, so that no guilty person goes free", on the other is our current "Allow 10 guilty people to go free, so that no innocent is hanged unjustly". Judge for yourself what effect either society model achieves longterm, each has its good points and bad points, I am just pointing out the bad ones on our own model. The "hang em all" was just me being a git.
  22. skipping school

Speaking personally, I am disheartened but not surprised that anyone would wish to place the "rights of the user" before the moral decision to do the right thing. I'd have done exactly what the forum mod did, without reserve or indecision. Too long now have legal technicalities stood in the way of moral responsibility, and such woolly headed thinking is, to me, the great shame of the world. Yes I already know the counter arguement to come here, legal rights have to be upheld yada yada yada, but how often have such legal rights been used to the advantage of the guilty, and the persecution of the innocent? Hang em all, I say.
  23. Mini vacation, from Sunday to Friday

Dynamic range, respective the lack of it. Human eye can perceive approx 20 EV range of colour hues, some decent DSLR with modern sensor can capture as few as 11-12 EV. If you really want capture the depth and colour, you should use HDRI or blended exposure technique. Why is it, no matter how straight forward the post, the skill of the poster or the amount of words per square whatever, no poster truly appreciates how bloody geeky the next poster can get when it comes talking about gadgets? Shame really...awe inspiring sight. Done pretty good on the jargon too, nice use of letters I dont have a snowballs chance in hell of ever wanting to hear deciphered. Guess I am getting too old to keep up with all you young uns, or maybe I should have started: "Speaking rhetorically, why is it..." *note: khalai, please dont be offended by the above, I just don't have a clue. And tbh I didnt really want one, I just wanted to show my appreciation of a bloody good sunset over the sea.
  24. Ring of WTF?!

EL doesn't support items with individual properties. Items with different properties have to be different item types, and cannot stack. So even if you had three varients (gooder, medium, bad) that appeared to be the same to the player (name, icon), they would form three separate stacks in inventories. Its a shame, but it is an implementation limit we have to live with. well since this has all been necroed already... what's wrong with making a ring that has one property, but the property itself has random outcomes? after all, if a drop bag can have different items inside it occuring from a "drops list" on the server, chosen on the death of a creature, it's no different to have a similar "effects list on the server" to be accessed when a specific item is used, is it? one click, access a random effect, simples. no? but as with the use of level dependant items in engineering (IE mines), then the level of the user should be taken into account to determine the quality of the outcome. Or better yet, base it on some astro or other. make those skeptics pay muahahha
