  1. Linux?

i've heard of some scary build setups, and i beleive that's why gnome is no longer in standard slackware... that sort of pull-your-hair-out compiling and dependancy is why packages are so much simpler
  2. Bugs On Maps

the area just out of the top right (or north east) corner of the vegie patch southwest of grahams village in WS does this when i rotate (no co-ords, sorry, hopefully the location in that detail is enough, else i can get it later) Edited by Roja: fixed
  3. I've posted in a few other areas, didn't find better places for the following suggestions though. it'd be great to adjust the med-garg falling on the bag thing, it's quite difficult to get the bag out from underneath, but it easy for most other enemies... at current, you have to go to the left side of the garg and scroll right in... and if there's a non-removable wall or another enemy nearby, you have to wait a long time or chance losing the bag. a way to push people in certain locations, such as doorways and ships... and if anyone goes afk there or doesn't move for a minute(or less) they get pushed automatically (just a few steps, out of the pinchway) This is probably server-side for the automatic part, and client-side if you allow to push (and it'd only be allowed in the areas where it would happen automatically later... don't want to be able to have everyone pushing people around... especially if they're sitting on a bag) the suggestions of <up> and <down> to go through previously posted messages has come up (along with line editing besides just delete... this was on channel in game, and din't find it in the forum, though it's probably somewhere in there)... and the complaint has been that it's just asking for spam. a few points there. it's already possible for people to do that, just make a line in notepad/whatever, and copy'n'paste... you're barely making it harder for the bad guys, but it's being used as an excuse to not do something helpful and my solution, useful for people who copy'n'paste as well: have it so you can't post the same message twice, reduce spam a bit another point, which i have some suspicions might be only a client-side thing... when you mouse over an entry/exit, the cursor changes, but only a small part of that will actually enter/exit when clicked (talking about cave entrances more than buildings)... shouldn't clicking on any part that changes cursor make you go through? an example is the exit in the north part of MM caves (since that's where i'm mining while i write this plus you could have an area inside the entry arch (because it usually is an arch) that's also clickable (I think the underworld has this, been a while since i visited though )
  4. Marco1

i'm not sure what the solution to this is, apart from blocking people leacing IP till they get a few levels, which would slow it down a bit and annoy the newbs (on the other hand, it could be to their advantage, they're safer there than taking the boat to portland) other option is a way to #warning player, from then on, their IP or something causes their name to come up orange? (we don't see the IP, so you don't even have the small chance of abusing that) would require the server to remember that permenantly, though, and people using proxies or work and home, etc can avoid it
  5. sounds good to me, but not the spell part. it'd be really hard to make it fair and balanced between all the skills (and yes, you'd have to)
  6. Software Mode

erm. yeah, that's what i meant <_< alt+tab starts cycling through windows, though, and pressing del as well stops it. so it does do something, just not what i had in mind
  7. You Will Laugh!

oh wonderful, butt humour... about as funny and mature as farting in a crowded elevator <_<
  8. Software Mode

that seems very low, though... one other thing to check, is your CPU running right up? (if in windows xp, alt+tab+del brings up task manager, and it can show you CPU usage) if it is, then it's your CPU slowing things down, not the graphics card if it is the graphics card, then keep alert for new software drivers, and disable as much as you're happy with in the config, the less processing, the faster the game will run (less particles, no shadows, clouds, reflections, all that sorta stuff)
  9. Tides

if you go to the ice bridge on IP, then walk into the water, you can... you can even sit down, and the water comes up to your neck, or so... plus i think there was talking about remaking the character models in a way that could be made to use other movements, such as swimming and riding, so you could always swim to shore... if you want something that's only available at low tide (which may disadvantage players based on when they can get online, not sure) then you could always have a 'beach' area where random stuff washes up... just another bag spawn, but you can't grab the bag unless the tide is low enough 8^) (this would already work, kill a monster in water and try, the only part of the bag you can grab is the bit above water)
  10. Software Mode

you can use #glinfo to check out some stuff and can probably tell from that if it is in hardware or software... does the card come with a utility for config? if so, check if there's stuff in there that could be causing the problem, or if windows (i'm assuming, since it's the most common one, and other operating systems usually already have the latest drivers) is set to not use hardware acceleration (i think that's start->settings->control panel->system->advanced or something, depending on version) hope this helps
  11. Remove Beam My 2 Cent

having to #suicide just because the harvest teleport sent you atop a wall (see above) is a bit harsh... but it does bring another idea... what if, for over level X (10, 20, whatever) in any skill you lose 10% + 10 health you get moved 5 meters you can't move for 10 seconds can't use it a lot, else you die and drop stuff (in an area you either can't easily get back to, or where there's a few people who pinned you in ready to grab the bag) the problem is if you're injured, no ability to heal, and no food, then someone pins you in in order to make you use this... don't see how that's fixable with damage though
  12. Sigils.

a lot of people ask how long sigils last for, if they can lose them, etc. my answer to this is generally to think of them like a magical tattoo, you get it once, you can never lose it. and to cast a spell, you activate them in order. if this sounds okay, perhaps something about this idea could be added to the magic shops selling sigils, to say that a sigil is permenantly burned(whatever) into your skin. then people know they can't lose them, and why it isn't in their inventory
  13. Sigils.

yeah, that works, too, just the word 'sigil' and the graphics makes me think of something drawn on whatever is used, makinf the magic shop person announce that it's permenant would be good (as i don't think it did last time i bought one)
  14. Random Harvest Events

this is true, especially after a #reset ... that's how i got my first half dozen or a dozen levels after i #reset
  15. Remove Beam My 2 Cent

the only map i can think of that's safe and has nothing of value is the underworld... that could work, i suppose, and have leaving the underworld take anyone over level 20 (eg) in any skill to a random place in the world. as for abusing a beam that goes 2 meters, how? skip forward in VC's darkness maze, perhaps, but you could also go backwards... escape a monster? okay, make it so you beam 2 meters and then can't walk for 10seconds (and also can't beam to a chokepoint like the VOTD doorway between lilacs and molgor). it's useless for escaping monsters then! and using this, you can re-enable beam in pk maps, it can't be used to escape, and can be used for mapbugs
  16. Well, What Do You Think?

if you are... can i market and sell the AI? it's good enough to make a lot of cash! also... what are these events that make you suspect yourself of being not yourself?
  17. Random Harvest Events

i've never gotten an experience bonus after the harvest hour, though... if that's the case in code, it wouldn't keep you there any longer and for me, i might get an xp bonus once every half dozen or so harvests, it's not that common. 6k = another hour at top level minables... and at level 80, that's a huge number of hours anyway...
  18. Random Harvest Events

while i'd welcome this, i'd like to point out that the current blessings still are significant at higher levels... i'm harvest 62, and another thousand xp (usually 200,400,600 something, but we'll say a thousand as the upper limit) means about a third of an hours harvesting less until next level as for the example of level 80 harvesting... at that stage, what's the point? you'll pick some flowers in multiples that you didn't before, but over 50 harvesting, you just don't care anymore. unless you're seeking the top50 list also, at level 80, 600 or 6000, that's little difference to the experience required, you'd want the potential experience for higher levels to be higher than what you suggested for it to matter plus i think it should start at at least 100 for newbies, help them get into the harvesting other than the critiques, i'm all for the idea of more appropriate harvest bonuses one other thing, would we want other things to have some impact from level as well? less bee stings at higher harvest, less cave-ins, but more damage from them, since you should know better, etc?
  19. Can Someone Make Me....

i think all you'd have to do is open Eternal Lands\3dobjects\weapons\weapons1.bmp in some sort of graphics editing program then go to the right sword, and use some method to change the colour... note that this will change the colour of this weapon as carried by everyone else too (on your screen, anyway) how best to change colour depends on the graphics program, and how fancy you want to get. a solid blue would be relatively easy, right up to copying the part you want to a new image, then using a hue/saturation/brightness change (only available in more powerful software) to adjust the colour, and then copy it back to the original image if you want to try this, you can always make a copy first, then you're free to experiment 8^) oh, also, the weapon definition and such will say where the edge of the image is, so you can't make it larger or smaller, the edge has to stay put
  20. 4 Misc Suggestions

yeah, i guess, but opening up inventory, grabbing something, and dropping it is about as much work as spinning and zooming in anyway 8^/ i spose if you have inventory open to drink lots of potions it becomes faster, and this solution does fix it when you can't see the bag at all, but still be nicer to be able to see the bag
  21. Can Someone Make Me....

making the sword itself blue (or just a light blue steel blade) would be possible editing the textures, same as the leather was changed. adding a glow, though, i'm pretty sure wouldn't be possible doing this
  22. Race Abilities

you could even do a racial reaction modifier for prices... dwarves get a discount in VOTD, gnomes in their homeland, that sort of thing it may not balance out too well if there aren't even communities of all races, so this could be balanced by something else as well and this is the sort of thing that p2p races should get a bigger advantage in, i beleive that p2p should get things that help them, while not stopping other players from doing (a skill only for p2p, for example, would be exclusive, and not showing all of the game means it could be a bit less likely people will pay)
  23. Remove Beam My 2 Cent

just now, simferry was stuck on the wall in VOTD... said it was a harvest teleport, and couldn't move 8^) as funny as this was, it shows why removing the beam entirely is a Bad Idea... if you must remove it, see my post above. just moving a meter or two would solve the problem, without any cheating use
  24. Ideas For Maps

all the maps are shown the same size, as i recall, so adding a single scale image to the client to be shown on the bottom and left (or all around, or whatever else you prefer) wouldn't be hard [edit]oops, just realised, numbers would be an issue here... would have to add them seperately or have multiple scale images adding the arrows would be a bit more work, but not too hard as the cross is moved (through whatever event draws that), the arrow(s) are also moved. it's extra work, but certainly doable. most of it is already done, for the cross anyway
  25. Antisocial Perk

less pickpoints is a problem, what would you do, give the people who previously took it negative PP? or just decrease the cost for people who take it in the future, disadvantaging them? adjusting the price will mess some stuff up as for really antisocial, there's the quest npcs(you have to work for that, and it's in a monster area out of the way, could be removed, but shouldn't, IMO), vital npc stuff (sigils, no fair making magic off limits to antisocial people), and storage(without this, you'd have to give a lot more than 10pp, storage is vital) but still, antisocial does make a lot of things harder (eg vials, buy from other players? not that easy, i usually have to get help at mira to get vials) money isn't impossible to get, sure, but it's not as easy anymore there are some things that are next to impossible to get from players... eg when i was doing the def god quest and needed wooden shields, couldn't get any on market chan, the smith was the only option
